Sutherland Retreats, L.L.C. was established in 2011. Our goal, while living at the Lake ourselves, was to find that perfect place to be able to share with others who could gather with family and friends, and enjoy all that there is to offer on the Peninsula, as well as just relax and spend the entire time on Lake Sutherland, while there is so much to do right here without leaving your home. Great place to bring loved ones together as we have been on the Lake since 1998. Memories to last a life time for our family and friends!
Those whom have stayed here while going through many changes in their lives called Lake Sutherland 'healing waters' which is comforting in itself and a wonderful way to remember their time while taking in the peaceful and picturesque setting.
Kim D Wakefield purchased this house in 2014
There is no other place on this lake, that we are aware of that has a home with all that there is to offer under one roof, like ours. The privacy on 2 acres with a fenced yard , private dock, a wonderful park like setting and room to roam is priceless. The outdoor games and the extra space to enjoy with your family and friends is a bonus.
This rental has the perfect setting for a small wedding, outdoor gatherings, corporate retreats, family and friends together under one roof with all the outdoor extras and privacy.
Having the detached Bunk House/Game Room, along with our Nautical Nest in the back of the property, across from the Bunk House, which has it's own kitchen and bathroom, is just what is needed to accommodate all the room for so many to enjoy, with all the privacy needed.
We owned the raw acreage next door and when this came available to purchase which would make the entire grounds 2 acres, we realized this was something that was not provided on the Lake, and wanted to create the perfect place for those to come and enjoy as many amenities as well as as many family and friends that they could get together on one property. We also live on the lake and have always tried to provide enough beds and fun for those we love and enjoy spending time with, so hopefully we have accomplished our goal in providing the same for you and your loved ones.
Full sunshine, while enjoying the private dock which runs between 100' of waterfront.
Beautiful yard, fenced and gated, perfect for kids to run around and be safe on their own grounds while waiting for dinner on the BBQ or getting ready to cook Smores on the front patio fire pit which faces the lake. This space truly represents the pacific northwest venue!
Our property is able to accommodate a larger crowd, so for an extra cost, we have a special events fee which allows you to entertain a larger crowd for the day, reunions, ceremonies, showers, birthdays, etc. We will provide the extra outside Sani-cans, since our septic is only able to service the initial quests who are staying, as well as the garbage service, we will transport all garbage cans, after the special event, all included in the special events package.
We are so pleased to hear that our property worked well for your annual family to gather and create more memories!
Thank you for choosing us and we hope to see you in the near future!
We are 2 families of 4 with one set of grandparents. The cousins are ages 8-12 and loved the bunkhouse - the pool table -- the air hockey. Everyone enjoyed the the kayaks and paddle boards on the lake. We had brought our own crock pot for cooking -- but there was no need -- the kitchen was equipped with 2 -- along with anything else we might need. Even the knives were sharp -- and easily cut onions and tomatoes. We could have spend all day everyday at Lake Sutherland -- but we did manage to pull the cousins away for a couple of excursions -- and while it was hard to get them to leave -- we had a good time at both Marymere Falls (about a 10 minute drive to Crescent Lake) and at Salt Creek Recreation Area/Tongue Point for a hike along a rocky coast to see tide pools (about a 30 minute drive). Kim was easy to reach and helpful with any questions we had. Would definitely recommend this location and hope we can get a reservation the next time we can head out that way with a big group.
This is by far the best house we have ever rented. The décor was awesome and the kitchen stocked with everything you could need to prepare meals! The private dock with kayaks, canoe, row boat and paddle boards kept everyone entertained for hours. There was more than enough room for the 13 of us and the grandkids loved the bunk house/game room also! Thank you Kim for providing us a wonderful place for our family vacation! We will be back!!
Sutherland Retreats was everything it is advertised to be and more. It was able to accommodate the family and had plenty of space for everyone to enjoy the vacation. With the wide variety of things that were supplied (from water toys to games and accessories), we never ran out of activities to entertain ourselves.
It's location on the Olympic Peninsula and proximity to the coast, Olympic National Park and Seattle made the sight-seeing opportunities overly abundant.
The fishing on the lake was outstanding, and didn't take long to catch our limits every day. (Search You Tube for instructional videos). As we were fishing, the resident pair of Bald Eagles were always close by, and would often give opportunities for some amazing photos.
The property was clean, well maintained and had plenty of extra bedding, towels and other necessary amenities; from kitchen appliances to wood for nightly family gatherings by the fire pit.
The owners were nearby, and would bend over backwards to ensure our needs were met, without encroaching on our stay.
Everyone in my family, and others that came to visit, were thoroughly impressed and remarked on what an exceptional vacation opportunity Sutherland Retreats provided.
We are 4 families: 8 adults, 7 kids ranging in age from 4-12. This rental was all we had hoped it would be: well appointed, clean, cozy and accommodating. Even on a 'vintage' northwest July weekend--rained off and on--we had plenty to do. The game room was especially great for the kids. For an example of a nice touch: each bunk in the game room has a wall mounted reading light. This enabled the kids to settle into their own little nests for quiet time. The pool table was a hit with parents and kids alike. The beautiful lake setting surrounded by wooded hills made the paddle boats enjoyable even through a drizzle. Not to mention the badminton set. When the sun came out we all enjoyed swimming, paddle boarding, and kayaking with plenty of life vests to go around.
The owners were attentive without hovering. They live nearby and while not visible (nor within earshot) made it very clear that they were there for us if we needed anything. The RV park just up the driveway and across the highway has basics + ice-cream. There are many hikes within a short drive of the property for those wanting to see a little more. The house is stocked with brochures for local activities but I recommend that anyone wanting to explore the peninsula a little deeper bring a detailed map. We did a day trip to Marymere Falls for a short hike and some play time in the shallow creek. This will definitely be a spot we will return to--if we can get the reservation in on time as it fills quickly. On a side note: for anyone traveling with kids who are into license plates Shirley's Cafe in Port Angeles is a bonus.
Tina, mom of 2 active boys ages 6 and 9
House lovely and big. Dock at lake with paddle boards and kayaks enjoyed by all. Close to park
All units were clean and supplied with much more furnishings/supplies than usually found in vacation rental property. Very enjoyable location. Would use it again.
New to Port Angeles is the Extreme Sports Sprint Boat Race track with two annual races, which brings in thousands from all over. August and September are the scheduled races, fun for all ages. Look into the Wicked Racing Site. Extreme water park.
Also, October is a great time to visit PA with our Annual Crab fest with amazing local restaurants coming together to feed thousands who travel from afar!
