The main house has a beautifully furnished living room giving an open plan island style, ideal for sharing the talk of the day before sitting down to dinner. Patio style doors open out onto the wrap-around deck which is furnished so that you can sit and read or enjoy the view from a hammock over the pool to the azure waters of the Caribbean Sea. The main house has a fully equipped kitchen and laundry.
Each of the two bedrooms in the main house has a Queen bed, air conditioner and each with its own full bathroom.
Wireless Internet service is available throughout the property so that you can keep in touch with those back home.
Our Property Managers will be at the airport to greet you and assist with your rental car pick up or transfer vehicle departure (transfers at extra charge) before heading to Big Rock via the Grocery Store if you’d like. They will ensure that you are familiarized with the house and are on call throughout your stay to provide assistance and answer any questions that you might have.
You’ll have the services of Pudens and his wife Isabel who live in a separate cottage at the entrance to Big Rock.
Pudens is a wonderful local islander who is the full time Gardener/Caretaker/Boat Captain/Pizza Chef at Big Rock.
Isabel will be providing daily room freshen-up service and will always be available to assist with any of your needs.
Pudens and Isabel will serve a complimentary all you can eat wood oven pizza party for guests on whatever evening you want. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available for an additional charge. You will need to give advance notice of at least 24 hours for any meal.
Although you can rent tanks and dive or snorkel the reef just off the beach from this home, there many local dive sights along the shore this side of the island. Located just a few minutes by boat are 3 well-known dive shops: Dive Port Royal, Reef House and Islander Diving. Pudens can drop you off at their docks and pick you up when you’re finished.
The 22’, 85 horse power panga style power boat is comfortable for deep sea fishing, taking trips to famous Pigeon Keys, tour the mangroves or to a number of well known and not so well known on and over the water restaurant/bars like BJ’s Backyard Bar, Hole in the Wall, Frenchy’s 44, La Sirena, Pookey’s to name just a few. Pudens will be on hand to boat you over to Oak Ridge for shopping and sundries. Boat service on demand for all guests is included for no additional charge to locales from Port Royal to Jonesville.
Hourly rates will apply for boat usage beyond these areas and Pudens will captain. Deep sea fishing is slightly more as a fishing captain is used.
The house is located in a very peaceful, remote part of the island which is approximately an hour from the International Airport at Coxen Hole, 40 minutes to French Harbour (with one of the biggest and best grocery stores on the island) and about 1 1/2 hours to the West Bay area.
If you wanted to rent a vehicle, a 4x4 rental is essential as the last 15 minutes of the journey are on an undulating dirt road. Another option is to park securely and inexpensively at BJ’s in Oak Ridge and boat to Big Rock. If you prefer, you can also taxi directly to BJ’s in Oak Ridge and never use a car.
A local cell phone will be available for you during your stay so that you can call ahead for the boat to be waiting for you on your return.
Come and enjoy a lovely peaceful vacation away from the hustle and bustle – this truly is the ultimate in peace and tranquility but with all the comforts of home.

Our vacation at Big Rock was everything we expected and more. Claire and Kevin were so helpful in the planning stages -- getting back to us so promptly with information requested. Meeting us at the airport, accompanying us to the grocery store, and taking us the property and giving us an orientation, all helped to make us feel more comfortable and at home, both on the property, and on the island.
Pudens, Isabelle, Shirley and family made all the difference in making our vacation experience extraordinary. They not only made us feel like kings and queens, but we enjoyed their company and learning about what life is like on the island.
The main house, casitas and the wonderful outdoor decks and kitchens were just what our big group was looking for and did not disappoint. Having Pudens and a boat available for excursions was a huge bonus, which we used often. We took advantage of the amazing snorkeling right off the beach multiple times during our week.
This is the perfect place for folks who are looking for privacy with all the amenities. A hidden gem!
We have been to Roatan many times, staying from west to middle island. This was BY FAR our best time on the island and the most memorable! Right from the start Claire was great to deal with, the whole transaction was quick and easy. Having Claire and Kevin pick us up was wonderful because we had the opportunity to meet great people!
The property is STUNNING!! The casitas are clean, well stocked and maintained. The showers to die for :)
We have never stayed at a more wonderful VRBO. But the creme du la creme for us is the wonderful caretaker family, Isabel, Puden their beautiful children! Not only did they take extra ordinary care of us, but we have life long friends! We had one casita, with newly made friends in the other. Every morning Isabel was so patient until we all arrived to gather for breakfast, instead of demanding breakfast is served between this time and that time, and you better be there at said time. When we were all togther, she would make our great meal to start our day. Aunt Shirley helps out also when needed, and she sure helped me with some traditional island medicine.
The highlight was going out to Pigeon Cayes, this little tiny island out in the middle of nowhere. Spectacular!
We have never had an experience like staying out at Big Rock! All the locals know of it and love and respect the owners and caretakers! That speaks volumes to me. We felt more than safe the whole time, we didn't even worry about locking up when away or when sleeping. After all you have to hear the waves coming in and the wind through the palms right? If you want an amazing place with awesome views and to be well taken care of , Big Rock is your place. Big thank you to all xoxoxo One Love
Our group has rented houses a couple of times in Costa Rica, last year in Nicaragua and this year we decided on Honduras. Lucky us, we stumbled upon this beauty- and it is our Favorite! Claire & Kevin were wonderful and met us at the airport. Kevin took our luggage to the house while Claire took us to the grocery store. She was a BIG help. She was great at responding to all my email questions very quickly before we arrived. The property is Stunning! The picture's don't do it justice. The grounds are very well kept and beautiful! My husband and I stayed in one of the casita's and we loved it- each has it's own AC and TV and I loved the outdoor shower! The outdoor kitchen is fully equipped and we spent most of our time there and lounging by/in the wonderful infinity pool. As another review stated, the surprising gems are Puden, Isabel and their family. Puden cooked us pizza in the outdoor pizza oven 3 nights! So yummy! He also was available anytime to take us by boat anywhere we wanted to go and I think we used him everyday for that! He took our husband's fishing one morning and they had a Blast. Isabel was so much fun- she always made sure the place was clean and that we had everything we needed and she cooks AMAZING food! Everyday she would make us some sort of surprise- from fried conch, soup, fish fingers, ceviche and several desserts. She prepared breakfast for us every morning and it was delicious. We tried food when we ventured away from the house but it was nothing compared to her cooking. She can prepare any meal you want or you can buy groceries for her to use. We bought and/or caught fish several days and she prepared it for us in different ways. Snorkel gear was provided so we snorkeled right in front of the house- so much fun! They have 3 dogs that live on the property and I suggest you let them stay out because they made us feel VERY safe- we loved them all! One of my favorite days was when Puden & Isabel took us to Pigeon Cays (Paradise!). It was around a 45 minute boat ride- the water was clear blue and so beautiful! Isabel prepared a lunch for us. She cooked us chicken wings on a fire! The snorkeling there was THE BEST! Well, I'm running out of room but I could go on and on about our week at Big Rock!! We are already planning a trip back next year! Don't think twice about this place- it's PERFECT!!
While the web page for this property provides a realistic overview of the amenities included at this private getaway, it pales in comparison to living the experience. The views are stunning, the pool is epic, the accommodations top tier, but the most surprising gems are Isabel and Pudin who provide you with the knowledge and benefits of a local while treating you as though you are visiting family. We will return.
We just completed our third stay at Big Rock, and it has confirmed our belief that it is about as close to perfect as one can get. Accommodations are luxurious, views are stunning, and Pudens and Isabel are standing by to take care of your every need. While the West End of Roatan is where much of the action on the island is, the East End—and especially Big Rock--redefines “getting away from it all in style.” You set the pace for your stay here: Quiet and contemplative, or adventure-packed. Unbelievable snorkeling is only a few steps from your door. Scuba diving in choice locations on the world’s second-largest coral reef is a short boat ride away. Or you can choose to do nothing at all, and then rest afterwards.
