Everything you need for a relaxed time on Kauai

  • 5 of 5

The house was a bit eclectic, but it was well equipped with everything you could possibly need, including beach chairs, boogie boards, snorkel gear, air conditioning in the bedrooms, sand toys, grill, kitchen utensils and cookware, coolers, etc. We loved sitting on the lanai for breakfast and dinner, getting cooled off by the sea breeze. It isn't overly fancy, but it is well priced and in an incredible location across the street from the ocean. It's also located right on the oceanside multi-use path that runs for miles along the shore, perfect for your walk/run/cycle in an incredibly picturesque location. I cannot recommend enough for people to stay here if you're okay with not staying in a five star resort and want a little bit more of a local feel, a quiet spot and to be able to cook your own meals and go at your own pace. I truly hope we will be back in the future!

A breathtaking, relaxing home away from home!

  • 4 of 5

We immediately felt a sense of calmness. The cottage was everything we expected and more. It had everything you could possibly need. Just a short walk up the driveway and you were at a amazing beach. We watched sunsets and sunrises most every day. The culture is mesmerizing and easy to adapt to. The owner of the cottage Larry was a delight and very helpful. If you want to be out of the rush of people and find a quiet spot this is definitely it. We are already planning our trip back and hopefully at the Monakai Beach Cottage. Mahalo!

The cottage could have been perfect, but it needed a lot of refurbishing. Had a lot of rotting wood.

We had a wonderful stay. The beech was right in front of the property and was perfect for children. The cottage had everything that one would need to cook, snorkel, boogie board, etc. The owner, Larry was very pleasant. However, the cottage needs a lot of work.

This felt like a second home to us before we put our luggage down. It's our second time staying at this property.

Lovely little home on the beach

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for our 10th anniversary. This was perfect for us - private and quiet, but a short walk to downtown Kapaa. We started every day by walking down the driveway and having coffee on the beach in our pajamas. We felt very safe there; there would sometimes be cars parked on the street with someone sleeping, but no one ever bothered us. The beach is in an area protected from the waves; not sure if it is an artificial or manmade structure there, but it creates a calmer pool near the shore where families bring small children during the day. Even when there were a lot of people in the afternoon, the noise didn't really reach the house. There were many mornings where we saw monk seals on the beach or swimming near the shore. There is so much to do in Kauai, but there were a few times we just relaxed and cooked our own meals; the kitchen had everything we needed and it was very clean - never saw a bug inside while we were there (we still cleaned up after meals and kept all food in the refrigerator). If you don't want to cook, there are plenty of really good restaurants within walking distance. The house has air conditioning (not every rental does) and it helped drown out Kauai's ever-present roosters. Larry thinks of so many little touches; there was snorkeling equipment, children's toys, and guidebooks available. Although we did not really need anything, Larry was available and willing to help. It was really a lovely, homey little place; wonderful to come and relax in our own private little world after a day of exploring Kauai. In fact, it feels so much like it's truly your home on the beach that it's a bit of a shock when it's time to leave. If you are looking to party or expecting luxurious accommodations, this is probably not the place for you. But if you want peace, privacy, and simplicity, this is definitely for you. If we were to return to Kauai, I would stay here again without a doubt.

Awesome location!

  • 5 of 5

This was an adorable, private small cottage on the beach, perfect for 2 people or a family of 4. Very quaint. Perfect for the 2 of us. Had everything we could want for a beach holiday. Endangered seal on the beach everyday, 5 minutes from the town, bike rentals 2 blocks away to ride on a 5 mile coastal path. Lots of tours that picked you up in the nearby hotel. Great diving. Side note- you really need a rental car to get around. Larry was a great host and helped us with all of our needs.
