This larger studio apartment is one of four units in this unique property that earned it an award for excellence in historical renovation from the city of New Orleans. It includes your own front deck, hardwood floors, stained-glass windows, queen-sized bed, and a bonus full-sized loft bed accessed by a ladder/stair; fully equipped kitchen with gas stove, fridge, microwave oven, toaster and coffee-maker; and personal safe large enough for a laptop or camera. Rounding out the features of this property is a locked front gate and ample on-street parking.

Save money by making breakfast in your room and enjoying it in our courtyard with bubbling fountain and peaceful vibe (also a good area for enjoying your afternoon cold adult beverage). Then head to the FQ or Frenchman St., or the nearby Bywater and Marigny areas, for some of the best food in the world for lunch and/or dinner.

Bicycle rental can be arranged, and is one of the best ways to get around and see New Orleans.

While we prefer to have an open-door policy as to pets, we have had some issues. If you would like to bring your companion animal, PLEASE discuss this with Eshyah first. If arrangements are not made and you arrive with an unexpected pet, you may be refused your room. We ask that younger animals be crated, and that all animals be kept off the furniture, including the beds. It is expected that pets not be disturbing to other guests (by barking endlessly or howling when you leave the room). If your pet is a problem at home, please don't expect us to deal with him or her....I'm just sayin'....

About Eshyah Selig

I was a residential real estate appraiser by trade, and have been lucky enough to be able to do several historical renovations in the French Quarter area. I'm a transplant from California and have been in NOLA for 20 years. I came for the music and never left. Since my retirement from appraising, I have opened The Crescent City Cat Club, which is a cat cafe without the food, if you're familiar with that concept. We have 20+ shelter cats staying with us, and, for a small fee, visitors are welcome to stop by and hang out with us. All of our cats are extremely friendly and love to have stop on by at 1021 Marigny St., NOLA 70117, about 6 blocks from the Mardi Gras Cottages.

Very nice property and on the bus line

The property was secure and very nice; full kitchen, refri with freezer. We stayed in the unit with a loft bed, and the bed was comfortable, and the ladder's big steps and slant made it easy to use. A bonus for us was that it was private and on the bus line so we could either walk or ride to the Quarter and other places quite easily, especially with the $3.00 all day bus pass that you can buy on the bus with exact change. Ms. Eshyah was an available and conscientious hostess and left a book of tips on enjoying New Orleans. We'd rebook again!

Great space in a convenient place

We arrived around 7:00 at night, and Eshyah had left us clear instructions on getting into our cottage. The gate definitely increased our sense of security. We stayed during a week that the RealFeel was over 100 degrees (pretty warm for New Englanders!). But, the AC managed to keep our space plenty cool. We followed a few of Eshyah's suggestions for places to eat in the area. The Wi-Fi was quick and secure, and there were plenty of outlets to plug in devices. The streetcar was a whole two blocks from the cottage, so was easily accessible.

Convenient property with character.

We had a great time here on our 6 day visit to New Orleans. The cottage was convenient for walking to the the French Quarter and Frenchman Street. We used the streetcars extensively to get further out to the WW2 museum; the Garden District and Lafayette Cemetery; and the sculptures in City Park. The stop is only 1 block away and costs $3 only on the streetcar for 24 hours travel.

The cottage was clean and comfortable. It has a security gate. Eshyah was very helpful and accommodating when we wanted to check in early.

Not a Bad Stay

This is a good option if you want something cheap and close to FQ. So the positives are price, location and convenience.

The drawbacks are that it was a bit dirty, such as dust balls on the floors, hair in the tub and some kind of flaky black debris in the kitchen sink (we still aren't sure what it was). It smelled sort of stale inside, not a foul odor, just not a pleasant one either. We were also woke up 3-4 times a night because of people standing outside close to our windows and holding loud conversations and laughing loudly. The tv only gets one channel so watching tv after we got back at night wasn't really an option.

We just wanted a place to crash and shower because we spent our entire days and evenings touring NO. So it was a good fit for what we needed it for.

There are some seedy places in NO but this location seemed pretty safe, as we didn't feel uneasy coming or going and our car remained unbotbered for the duration of our stay.

So this is a good fit if you just want cheap, simple lodging because you don't plan on hanging out there, which is what we needed.

Owner's Response: Ouch! Well, I must say, this is some news to me. We usually get great reviews for location, and I've never had complaints about street noise. I will definitely look into the TV thing, but again, this is the first I'm hearing about it. As for it being dirty, well....I'll have to tighten up my act, obviously. We do strive to provide a clean, quiet place in a convenient location with New Orleans charm, to our guests. I guess we missed the mark with you!
