When you see the water, take a deep breath and say 'Ah-h-h-h!' You've just experienced the Sound Relief Cottage difference -- on the Carolina Crystal Coast.
You're minutes from Emerald Isle and Atlantic Beach with the entire Bogue Sound out in front of you. Your refuge rests just 50 feet from the water. A steady southwesterly breeze blows through the windows and screened porch.
The water in front of the cottage provides a convenient and more private way to enjoy the water. There is a 400 foot tidal flat between land and waist-deep water. The Intra-Coastal Waterway (ICW) passes by farther out.
Want to catch some rays? There are numerous places to sun at the cottage – on the deck or in the yards. And you can get in a good game of horseshoes. Star-gazing is always a fun activity. Who can resist a good game of checkers?
Guests will find opportunities to harvest clams and scallops, to cast a net for shrimp and bait fish, and to wade the flats at night in search of flounder.
Small aluminum boats, canoes and kayaks may be launched from the property. For larger boats, two ramps are located within a mile of the cottage. Public ramps are also located in Morehead, Beaufort, Cape Carteret. There is no pier available at this time, but many skippers choose to anchor their boats just beyond the tidal flat and wade in as opposed to pulling the boat at the end of the day. Marina slips may be rented nearby. Rentals of power boats, kayaks, sail boats and PWCs are available nearby. Check the "Area Info" package upon arrival.
Bogue sound is home to a portion of the Intra-Coastal Waterway (ICW). Just across the ICW from the cottage are shell islands – the result of dredging that started back in the 1930’s. Shell collectors, bird watchers and sun bathers gather on the islands to enjoy the local environs. Many species of birds nest on the islands and are very protective of their nesting sites – especially the small terns and Oyster Catchers. “Watch your head!”
