Casa Mango is located in the lovely neighborhood of Garcia Gineres, just a few blocks from the well-known Parque de Las Americas. Just far enough away from the noise and hubbub of Centro, but close enough to enjoy the fun things Centro has to offer. Garcia Gineres is a safe, authentic Mexican neighborhood, full of friendly families. You will be within short walking distance to bus stops, a small grocery store, a convenience store, fruit and vegetable stands, economic eateries, and a family run tamale shop.
The home comes fully furnished including bedding and towels, King-size bed with high quality mattress, 42' TV (Apple TV with Netflix access), free wi-fi, kitchen with frig, stove, microwave, and all the necessary cooking utensils, and dishware. It comes decorated with Mexican folk-art personally collected from throughout the country. There are ceiling fans in every room, and AC available March through October. All windows and doors have screens. You will enjoy the sunny garden spot in the winter months.
You have the option to cook your own meals and dine indoors in the dining area, or outside on the covered patio, surrounded by tropical plants. There is a washer and dryer on the back patio at your disposal.
Evenings are a great time to walk over to Parque de Las Americas, a favorite place where Yucatecan families go. Try the Marquesitas, a crepe like treat filled with cheese! One of my favorites!
On Saturday mornings you can visit the Organic Slow Food Market, also located in Garcia Gineres, where you can buy healthy yummy things to bring home, have breakfast at Los Platos Rotos (The Broken Plates), or just sip coffee at the Organic coffee shop and people watch!
It is a very short bus ride to and from Centro and the bus stops are a block or two away from the house. Taxis pass almost constantly on Avenida Colon, just four blocks away, or you can arrange for one to pick you up at the house. Many choose to take the bus downtown and return home by taxi. For visiting the ruins, nearby beaches, or other destinations in the Yucatan Pennisula, there are specific bus terminals downtown.
If you should choose to rent a car, there is plenty of easy street parking available.
This is my home and where I live when I am in Merida. I lock out the second bedroom for my personal belongings and leave my car in the carport. The friendly managers live just half a block away and will help you with keys and getting settled in.
The home is completely smoke-free. Please respect this and only smoke in outside areas.
Casa Mango is appropriate for two adults. Sorry, no children or pets.
