About Jim and Kathy Herrington

I am the daughter of Art and Elane Petersen who purchased the land and built this home back in 1980's for a retirement retreat. Art was raised on a ranch 11 miles up the road but had a career as a Marine JAG officer, then as a city attorney and finally opened his own office as a financial planner before REALLY retiring to his hometown. They raised Longhorns and enjoyed a few good years before leaving the property for others to enjoy.

I LOVE this place!!! After enjoying over a decade of Thanksgiving and other celebrations here w/ my entire family; I have a desire to share the beauty & wonder of these twin hills and surrounding area.

Jim and Kathy Herrington purchased this house in 1988

Why Jim and Kathy Herrington chose Hill Country

Our home was designed by my late parents for family gatherings and for retirement. It is comfortable and quiet, cant see another house in any direction.

What makes this house unique

We are over the hill from Fredericksburg which gives us the most wonderful views of the stars without the city lights. Almost always a breeze so sitting out on any of the porches is comfortable.

Very nice place to get away! I hosted my sisters bachelorette weekend, it was comforting to know only the cows and deer would here us laughing all night!

I have been renting vacation homes for more than ten years. This one delivered more than we expected. So comfortable, so peaceful, close to town- 6-7 minute drive and everything you need. House was much larger than we expected. We cooked big breakfasts and sat on the patio to eat. Loved watching the cows and deer. We actually go to fredricksburg a couple times a year. I look forward to staying here again!! Thank you for sharing your home!!

Cut Country Home, Great Time in Fredericksburg

  • 5 of 5

The house is much bigger inside than you think. The location was great and loved how it was on so many acres. Th owners were very nice to work with. All in all, had a great weekend at the house and at Oktoberfest!!!!!

Lovely Property, great for groups!

  • 4 of 5

The property is spacious and we enjoyed watching Con Air on VHS! It was a blast from the past. They also had ample cooking space and dishes to cook there, which we enjoyed and saved us money on our trip. They left us a great basket of coffees teas and treats, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The property was easy to access and the environs were really lovely. We saw wild turkeys and deer! My only complaint is that it is hard to see the entrance to the property at night. If there was some kind of illuminated sign that you could see before you were right on top of the property, that would be really helpful. Other than that, this our second great stay there, would definitely recommend!

Owner's Response: Well thank you for the review and we are adding some solar lights at the gate. We don't have power out there but solar might be the ticket.. Thanks again and hope to have you as our guests again.
