About Jim and Kathy Herrington
I am the daughter of Art and Elane Petersen who purchased the land and built this home back in 1980's for a retirement retreat. Art was raised on a ranch 11 miles up the road but had a career as a Marine JAG officer, then as a city attorney and finally opened his own office as a financial planner before REALLY retiring to his hometown. They raised Longhorns and enjoyed a few good years before leaving the property for others to enjoy. I LOVE this place!!! After enjoying over a decade of Thanksgiving and other celebrations here w/ my entire family; I have a desire to share the beauty & wonder of these twin hills and surrounding area.
Jim and Kathy Herrington purchased this House in 1988
Why Jim and Kathy Herrington chose Fredericksburg
Our home was designed by my late parents for family gatherings and for retirement. It is comfortable and quiet, cant see another house in any direction.
What makes this House unique
We are over the hill from Fredericksburg which gives us the most wonderful views of the stars without the city lights. Almost always a breeze so sitting out on any of the porches is comfortable.

This is a great place to stay. Very roomy and comfortable with beautiful surroundings. The only negatives were that the cleaning crew left some used coffee grounds in the coffee maker and some dried dog poop on the floor in the downstairs bedroom with the twin beds. Would also be nice if there had been instructions for the tv remotes since not everyone has Dish TV.
Thank you for your stay with us, we are glad you enjoyed yourselves. As far as the cleaning crew I will look into it and get it corrected immediately.
An Amazing Place of Peace
Four artist friends from around the country got together for a week of sketching and relaxing, and we could not have been more delighted. Twin Hills Ranch is perfect and beautiful and quiet and there are cows in the yard! Everything you need for a comfortable stay and plenty of room inside and outside for hanging out together. A short drive to downtown and all the activity, and a short drive up the road for a beautiful and quiet "drive in the country" experience. We were very reluctant to leave and would return every year if Jim and Kathy would have us. Really enjoyed meeting Jim and learning a bit of history about the ranch and its surroundings. GREAT stay!!
Kitchen had all appliances and utensils we needed. Great views; we had nice morning walks both days and trekked the hillock on property. Kids had lot of fun swinging on the tire swing. Close enough to downtown fredricksberg and also to wineries.
Beautiful property in the country, still close to town.
House easily slept 5 adults and 3 kids. We took back roads from the home to several wineries and the kids were amazed by all the deer we saw along the beautiful drive. Love the peace and serenity this place offers while still a very easy/short drive to town. We'll be back.
A bit of nature
It is a very peaceful place with a wonderful setting and nearby shopping at unique shops.
Keeps getting better
This was our second time to stay in this home. It is perfect for a girls' weekend or for family time. It is spacious, comfortable, and very clean. We love having breakfast on the patio and enjoying the country morning! It is stocked with everything you need - it is 5-6 minutes to town, and you can even get Freericksburg's version of Uber if you need it. Already looking forward to next year's annual Girls' weekend and will be staying here again!
This home is located 4.5 miles from town, only about 10 min. Close enough to run in to shop or dine but far enough to be quiet and peaceful. Fredericksburg is located in the heart of the hill country, with lots of eclectic shops and restaurants on the city's main street offering a taste of the local culture.
If you want to stay close to the guest home during your stay you can hike, bike, bird watch, or just enjoy the quiet beauty of nature.
