About Tyler Johnston

My wife Leigha and I live in Toronto but grew up in small towns in Southern Ontario (Elora and Southampton). I attended Wilfrid Laurier University to study economics and Leigha attended George Brown College to study physical fitness. We have been together for 7 years and are proud parents to our French Bulldog, Bonnie.

Tyler Johnston purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Tyler Johnston chose Muskoka District

We decided to buy this property as soon as we saw the views from the deck. With 300 feet of frontage and being on a point, we enjoy expensive panoramic southern views of beautiful Star Lake (meaning beautiful sunshine all day). Also, the property itself is fantastic for everyone. There are stairs down to the water or a gently sloped path. There is a sand beach perfect for young children and pets. There is also deep water off the dock for diving and mooring a boat. And not to mention, PRIVACY. Because we have so much frontage and because we're on a point, we enjoy a ton of privacy. In addition, the cottage itself is beautiful and well-laid out. The common space is wide open with expansive views of the water. The finished basement has sound-proofing making it a perfect spot to have fun or put the kids to bed.

All in all, this property truly has it all and it's great for people of all ages!

A Truly Perfect Place

  • 5 of 5

I've stayed at many cottages in Muskoka and surrounding area and I'm not sure I've found a better place than this. This place has a perfect balance between new home comforts and that rustic cottage feel you want.

The cottage itself is great, the kitchen is super well equipped with lots of dishes and cooking utensils (pots, pans, bowls, cutlery etc). The appliances are all new so you don't have to worry about them not working or not working well. The bedrooms are all good sizes and the beds are comfortable. There is a large selection of DVDs and even some VHS tapes which are great for rainy days or to plunk the kids in front of the TV when you want some quiet time. As mentioned, the basement (and 4th bedroom) is accessed outside of the main floor. It however is newly renovated and has AC (like the rest of the place). It's nicely equipped with a ping pong table, dart board and a great entertainment area with TV. The entire property was nice and clean when we arrived.

The outdoor property is what really makes this cottage special. The deck immediately off the living space is very large and can accommodate a lot of seating. Dinners on the deck are incredible. The hot tub is a really nice amenity not found at many places but is nice at night when it gets a bit chilly, or during those rainy days. There are also plenty of boats that the owner kindly allows the renters to use.

The best part of this cottage that the pictures don't do justice is the beach area. We specifically rented this property because of the sandy beach. It extends out into the water about 20 feet and is only a few feet deep before dropping off. We had 2 toddlers who loved playing in the water and it was great to know they could walk out far without getting water over their head. You can also go straight from the water to the cottage just on rocks and not get sandy feet; a small but nice touch. The dock on the other side of the beach is deep and allows for jumping/diving and parking your boat.

When you are out on the water and looking back at the property, you can see that this is one of the premier spots on Star Lake. Easily accessible and a great, warm lake perfect for swimming and boating. We will definitely be renting again!!

Gorgeous cottage with all the amenities of home!

  • 5 of 5

Gorgeous cottage and complete with all amenities of home. Lots of things to keep kids and grownups entertained on the property even on a rainy day. Star Lake is beautiful and very quiet, great for fishing or just a peaceful canoe trip. Loved it so much the first time we came back for a second visit. We will definitly be back!

Great Property!

  • 4 of 5

We had a great week here with plenty of room for the 8 of us. The kitchen has all the necessities, the beds are comfortable and the outdoor amenities are in good order. The beach is "user friendly" for young children and is relatively secluded from the neighbours. The fishing was a bonus. The cottage is a short drive from the village of Rosseau and is within 20 minutes of Parry Sound.

The lake isn't as busy as some of the others so you aren't constantly being buzzed by the big boats. We would return again in the future.

A Wonderful Cottage Experience

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was really beautiful, spotless and had absolutely everything you need for a wonderful weekend. The view from the cottage is spectacular. The location is perfect and everything you need is close by. The cottage is cozy and yet great space for everything and everyone. Our dogs loved the rocks and little beach out front. I will definitely go back.
