Sunny! 1918 House, private Apt, gardens, chickens, parking, laundry, hardwoods
FULLY equipped kitchen, sheets, towels, hairdryer, soaps/shampoos, snacks, TV with Chromecast, WIFI, laundry, games, books, big comfy front porch, offstreet parking, walk to grocery and restaurants and MARTA. Gardens, chickens, bees (very safe) in backyard.
This big house was built in 1918 by the Southern Railway as an upscale boarding house where Northern railroad execs could bring their families and over-winter at what was then the terminus of the rail-line. So it was built as a quad, which means a few things, each apt has a good layout, not chopped up from a once-primary-residence, it's got high ceilings, leaded glass, plaster walls a foot thick, and it's across the street from the old railyard, which is now part of the Beltline. It's a well-put-together space yet welcomes you to settle in. Plenty of walking-to destinations; walk to MARTA train (either Edgewood or Candler Park). Walk to 6 unique restaurants, 2 coffee shops, a local market, some retail. Get a growler from Candler Park Market and pull up a chair and watch what we call 'chicken TV' in backyard. The beehives are safely enclosed in the chicken run. See what's growing, pull some weeds...
My coop has been on the Urban Coop Tour lots (and lately, too).
NO Roosters live here (or nearby)!!!

About Scott H. Thompson
Decatur Native attorney married to Atlanta native attorney, 3 kids, urban gardener with about 750,000 bees and exactly 26 laying hens. Youth coach, Rotarian, Mountain Biker, Birder, Geek. Margot (10th grader) helps me with most aspects of this endeavor . I couldn't have imagined what an incredible business experience this has been for a young lady. Letting her convert a few of our apartments into short-term rentals has given her first-hand business experiences that babysitting just doesn't cover!!
Scott H. Thompson purchased this House in 1990
Why Scott H. Thompson chose Lake Claire
It was a huge project, but i wanted the land because of gardening/chickens/bees potential, which, you'll see, worked out great!
What makes this House unique
It's really INtown. Not out in the burbs. Funky neighborhood is kinda Austin weird, that's a good thing. Late check-ins are never a problem since we'll assign you a door code, and you don't need to meet for your 'key". We really want to maintain our flexible policy on check-in and check-out times. I will do everything I can to accommodate your times. Early check-in and late checkout depend on both your requests and the preceding/ following guests', then me negotiating something reasonable. If the night before you is not booked (and we won't know until that afternoon!) we'd normally be happy for you to check-in at 8am... If you want to check out at 5pm and no one is coming that night, no problem!! We'll see as we get closer. But, we do have a space where you can store bags. Otherwise, here is what the HOUSE MANUAL (in your Itinerary) will say-- Check-in will be anytime after 3 pm and Check-out will be anytime before 11am UNLESS YOU REQUEST flexibility with some notice. FULL DISCLOSURE -- this is my urban working farmlet, so from time to time there will be beehive frames for repair in the yard, or mushroom logs to innoculate on the porch, or wheelbarrows or implements of gardening strewn about. This big, old, demanding mistress requires regular attention from me and my trunkful of tools!! The inside pictures are exactly "as is". Promise. My farm does not extend to your very clean, orderly, tidy apartment

Very nice well located home
Enjoyed the house and the owner was friendly and helpful
Nice and comfortable
Nice little spot great location very clean and comfortable
A great place to stay
I was quite pleased with my stay here. I slept great in the apartment and was able to prepare and eat all my meals in the large kitchen/dining room. The location was perfect for me...just a 10-minute walk to the Candler Park-Edgewood MARTA station.
A few words of caution: this place is funky, not fancy...perfect for me but perhaps not for you. The bathroom is off of the bedroom so that any additional guests sleeping in the living room would have to walk through the bedroom to use the bathroom. Also, it is just one door away from busy Dekalb Avenue rather than the advertised "almost at the corner of New York Avenue." That being said, however, it is not at all noisy at night so hopefully you will sleep as well as I did. The bottom line: I intend to stay there again when I return to Atlanta.
Midtown music festival
Scott was nice and very responsive. The chickens and fresh cherry tomatoes grown on property were awesome. We didnt eat the chickens by the way. lol. I would stay there again
Cozy and Quiet
It is great for 2-3 people. We enjoyed our stay very much, close to MARTA which was wonderful, and L5P with restaurants galore. Scott was great, had a little problem with code upon arrival, but Scott got us in then came over with Champ and got us squared away! Love the location, there is one window air unit in bedroom, but put fan on chair or table and keeps living area cool. Kitchen remains warm, we only used toaster oven so that was fine. This house is a quad apartment so there are 'neighbors' above and other side of house, very quiet just some creaky floors upstairs. If you use the sofa bed do support the center and use the foam mattress on top (if you don't support underneath you will sink in the middle terribly). Local TV, no extra channels except home shopping lol, but there is a dvd player and a HDMI cable. Clean and comfortable and a great price!! Thanks Scott (and Champ)
Cute, Quirky - three stars leaning to four!
We were very mixed on how to review 1918 house, and hope this provides an honest description. Scott was easy to work with and responsive. The check-in/check-out was very flexible which we appreciated. The house has great character (he should include a pic of the bathroom tile) and was comfortable for the three adults in our party. The location was fantastic. Quiet on a side street, but fast to Atlanta-proper or Decatur as well as a few surrounding neighborhoods all w their own personality. We enjoyed the farm aspects, including the creative use of gardens w tomatoes and herbs everywhere. For the issues - worn linens/towels, lumber and debris on the porch and bedroom window sill, I stepped on the handle of a broken tool on the lawn (stepped off the porch to grab something that fell), and the laundry is not easily accessible. In the welcome info Scott does say that to reach out if you want to do laundry and he will walk you through the basement. We didn't think we would need it, but would have liked the option on our last night when we had a run in w BBQ sauce! All said and done, I would give this house a chance. It looks like there might be some temporary construction going on and other issues are easy to fix.
