Extremely disappointed

  • 1 of 5

I have rented numerous properties but have NEVER experienced a rental that was as deplorable as this. I understand there are various "levels" of properties, but this property should never be allowed to be rented by unsuspecting renters until it is fixed up. Outdated does not mean rundown. Kitchen cabinet flooring under the sink rotting through the floor, unsafe guard rails around the outside deck, water damaged and peeling ceilings throughout, window blinds either cracked, missing or nonfunctional, unsanitary master bath shower, and cockroaches every day. Thank goodness we had family in the area. This property needs to be removed from the rental list. It is apparent that the owner is not interested in fixing up the property and is trying to get rental income. Also, the leading agents need to visit their properties that they list to ensure their validity as a rental. Is I could give zero stars for this I would.

Roaches, ants, leaking ceiling, leaking doors, soft floors, terrible beds. only good thing was view

  • 1 of 5

We checked in late and didn't see the house in the daylight. The next day, we started seeing a few roaches and small ants everywhere. The more we looked at the house, the more we noticed the issues. We called the rental agency to complain and they offered to send an exterminator. We didn't really want to stay in a house after a bunch of chemicals were sprayed so we declined. Then the rain came....water dripped on the couch from the hole in the ceiling. The newly installed sliding doors had water standing in them. The door in the "master" bath had sand and water blowing beneath it. We stayed for 3 nights because we couldn't find anything else with such notice. Having said that, we are 3 male govt employees and toughed it out. If my wife and kids had've been with me, I would've rather slept in my vehicle. Elaine from the rental agency was quick to quote the "contract" and stated that no compensation was possible because we didn't report the issue during check in. Remember, we got in late after dark and didn't see/notice the issues until we got up the next day. We didn't notice the roof leaks until day 2 when it started raining. We paid too much per night for 3 nights for this place and really feel like we stayed in a dump and had no help from Elaine and the rental agency. 30 years ago, I'm sure this house was really nice. It's falling apart from all the years of beachfront weather. Having said that, the photos online completely misrepresented it. Until this house has a major overhaul, DON'T stay here.

Very private for a public beach.

  • 3 of 5

We had a great time here at what we lovingly called the surf ghetto. The location is close to downtown shops, and the beach is steps away. We spent most of our time swimming, surfing and treasure hunting on the long stretch of beach. The house was clean, with some bug issues. Ants have taken over the kitchen and the cockroaches were a daily stomp fest. We kept up on spills and dishes which helped, but they were there non the less. The house could use some updates, replace the slider doors, new bedding, fix the dripping air conditioner over the couch, a sharp knife for the kitchen would all be nice touches. Really, this is an old house that survived a massive hurricane, don't expect the Ritz and you'll have a fantastic time with your family.

Nice location but the house needs some upgrading

  • 3 of 5

This house has a great location, right on the beach, and not to far from Vilano and St Augustine. It definitely needs some improvements. The deck is starting to show its age, there are broken blinds in the house, and there are pest problems (roaches and ants). When we arrived the house was clean, beds made, etc. A few extras like toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags would of been nice.

During our stay we saw dolphins and several sea turtles came ashore during the night. Very easy to get down to the beach. Overall my stay was OK..come for the beach....but if you want a really nice house...this is not it.

Stay away, poorly maintained and poor customer service

  • 1 of 5

What a disappointment. The house is very run down and needs investment. The entire trip was ruined by a broken air conditioner in mid-90's Florida weather, doors and windows rusted shut, and the very challenging and faceless management company.

4 out of 7 days we were waiting around for air conditioner repairs, the place is run down with old appliances, uncomfortable beds, and noisy neighbors playing loud music. And the company very poor service.

After a long 20+ hour drive we arrived right at check-in time and found the air conditioning to be struggling to keep the temperature in check. By 5pm it was over 90 degrees and rising so we called Vacation Rental Pros. Instead of enjoying our first evening as planned we stayed in waiting for the air conditioner repair man to show up. The stuffiness of the "harmony" house was unbearable, yet even as the temperature began to become bearable outside we could not open any of the sliding glass doors to even let in a sea breeze. All the sliding doors are either rusted or bolted shut! This is a real shame as our favorite feature of any beach house is the sound of the waves and tide at night. The only windows that open are at the front of the house - and the sounds from the front of the house are fast cars and motorbikes zooming by at 55+ mph. The repairman arrived late, fiddled about a bit and on his way out that he hopes it holds, we'll find out tomorrow...

It didn't hold. Every day it was the same. AC didn't hold, temp would hit the mid-90s and we had no choice but to take the dogs with us and drive around until it was repaired. And that is pretty much how we spent our first four days. Driving around to keep cool. Finally, four days in, it was fixed so we got to enjoy 2 days before checking out on Saturday morning.

Bottom line, we had four days ruined. We wasted money driving ourselves and dogs around to keep cool. With the house so hot we couldn't so much as warm up a pizza in the oven let alone run the dryer for laundry or towels. And the lack of fresh air with the sliding glass doors not only spoiled hearing the ocean but is probably very dangerous in offering us no way out in an emergency, especially considering the back door was locked and used a different key.

And we are not even mentioning the little things; uneven stove, grubby furniture, dangerous nails sticking up on the deck, leaky faucets.....

All in all the worst vacation ever.
