This quintessential Cape cottage is only 1/2 mi. from the beach, and is situated in South Cape (beach) estates, a leafy, family-oriented neighborhood. The pristine beach overlooks the sparkling waters of Nantucket Sound, with a view towards Martha's Vineyard. South Cape Beach State Park/Wildlife Preserve is great for walking, biking, bird watching and kayaking, as well as of course swimming and sunning.
The town's deep water dock is 5 minutes away and the neighborhood also has a boat landing/picnic area with a small beach, where you can launch a kayak, or take children to play on the swings while you sit and unpack lunch on the picnic tables. It's a great place to go for a stroll, as you can enjoy the water view from Adirondack chairs on the beach, watch boats swinging on moorings, in front of grey-shingled cottages with red, white & blue flags flapping in the breeze.
The cottage sleeps 6, with one bathroom & an enclosed outdoor shower. The bedrooms are air-conditioned, and if it is especially hot, the AC is sufficient to cool the entire cottage. A large screened-in porch gets plenty of fresh Cape air, without the bugs. Great by day, but also wonderful for reading or relaxing at night.
The living room has a large flat-screen TV which is great for watching the Red Sox games all summer. The kitchen is well-equipped, you'll find everything you need, including the lobster pot, seafood forks & oyster knife.
Drive 10mins. to Popponesset Marketplace, and enjoy the outdoor cafés, restaurants, galleries, miniature golf, outdoor concerts and ice cream shops, and don't forget to try the 'Cape's best' lobster roll at the Raw Bar.
If you enjoy biking, don't miss the Shining Sea bike trail which begins in North Falmouth and wends its way past cranberry bogs, and Chapaquoit Beach. Bike 10.7 mi. to scenic Woods Hole and enjoy lunch.
Or pick up your clubs and play golf at one of the nearby courses, Quashnet Country Club is 5 miles away.
For grilling aficionados there is both a charcoal and gas grill, and an outdoor table & chairs.
Mashpee Commons is 10 mins. by car, and is terrific for casual restaurants like Bobby Byrnes, or fine dining like Bleu. In addition there is a cinema, outdoor films, and upmarket non-touristy shops. Roche Bros. or Stop 'n' Shop are the nearby supermarkets. Outdoor concerts are held at Mashpee Commons, bring a picnic and the beach chairs!
For a quintessential Cape experience, you cannot do better than this central (but off the tourist track) location.

About Beth Craig and/or Eduardo Gonzalez
Having grown up in Boston, my sisters and I enjoyed summers on the Cape, and the nice family-oriented neighborhood we are in. Being away from the traffic and hustle and bustle of the tourist-packed beaches, we enjoy 'old-fashioned' Cape summers, with no honky-tonk town or fast food eateries. We prefer the simplicity of a bowl of chowder or a lobster roll, or grilling in the back yard. We look forward to coming every summer, to drink in the short but sweet New England summer.

Why Beth Craig and/or Eduardo Gonzalez chose Monomoscoy Island
The best thing about this cottage is its proximity to the beach (walk with the beach wagon holding your gear), and the location of Mashpee itself. From here you can visit Cape Cod villages, bike the Shining Sea Trail, catch the high speed ferry from Hyannis to nantucket for the go to Woods Hole for lunch, or to take your bike or car over to Martha's Vineyard. Drive scenic 6A to Chatham, meandering thru charming old villages, or go to Osterville or Mashpee Commons to shop & eat. Popponesset and NewSeabury is just next the kids, and enjoy a lobster roll at the raw bar, followed by an ice cream.
What makes this Cottage unique
A quiet tree-lined street, safe for kids, relaxing for adults, and close to the beach. It is not touristy - it is really all locals who have been coming for years. The yard is private enough - you are not 'on top' of the neighbors'. And those you do meet, you will find are super friendly and welcoming. The PORCH is great for relaxing day or night, and great for grandparents who don't want to go to the beach, but want to enjoy the fresh air. The WiFi is free, and the signal is strong.

Dirty, musty cottage in need of updates
We stayed at Dray's cottage in July 2017 for one week. We arrived to find the cottage extremely dirty, and in serious need of updates. The linoleum floor is pulling up in many areas, and covered with cigarette burns in the master bedroom. The backyard is dilapidated, and not a space to enjoy outdoor meals or playing with young children. The cottage is extremely musty, even with window AC units running, all of our clothing & personal items smelled awful after staying here. The dryer does not work, and we found this disappointing as we had booked a cottage with laundry due to travelling with young children. There are no functioning clotheslines to hang your clothing to dry; therefore we left with wet, smelly clothes. While the cottage is extremely close to South Cape Beach, we found the cost of day-tripping to the beach extremely high ($20), and preferred the beaches on Cape Cod Bay. You can purchase a beach sticker at Town Hall for $50 for the week; however, if you don't spend every day at this particular beach it is not worth the cost of the sticker. Mashpee does not have much to offer for young families, although I'm sure it's a nice spot for adults. After a bit of a battle with the owner, they did agree to refund our cleaning fee due to the cleaning that we needed to do ourselves in order to stay for the week. The owner was helpful leading up to our stay with recommendations (for adults, not families) and she was happy to answer questions sent by email.
This family arrived and only complained when they were leaving and looking for the cleaning fee to be refunded. When they arrived, the cleaning service was in the house.
If a tenant has any issues with cleaning, our team will come out immediately to rectify the situation. If the dryer broke I can get it repaired immediately. We have now bought a new washer and dryer and put up a new clothesline. We have dehumidifiers and AC units for humidity. This man blackmailed me to return his cleaning fee, saying if I did not, he would write a bad review, need I say more?
He's an opportunist , steer clear.
Clean and well kept cottage. The cottage has everything you need. Bring food & bathing suit!
3 good sized bedrooms, good size family room and an extremely comfortable screened in porch. Perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine after a day at the beach! Nice sized backyard & wonderful outside shower. Quiet neighborhood and a short walk to the beach.
Lovely cape cottage!
As a family of four, this was a lovely cottage that had everything we needed for a stay on the cape. We enjoyed sitting on the porch drinking our coffee in the morning before heading out to one of the many beaches on the cape. There was a beach within a mile (the park itself was less than a mile) - no lifeguard but great for a morning run or evening walks after dinner!
(We actually stayed July 2015 but for, some reason the site won't let us change the month.)
Cottage in Mashpee
We loved it! The cottage/house was cozy, clean, and close to the beach. We had a wonderful time. One bathroom was sometimes a problem for five but the outside shower took over for other problems ...showers... We might have had.
We loved the location of our cottage rental. Close to Mashpee commons and just a short drive to Falmouth and the ferry to Martha's Vineyard. The cottage was setup perfect for 6. and We are very happy to hear the owners have updated the washer and dryer...(it wasn't working while we were there). You will love the neighborhood, great for afternoon walks down to the dock and lovely homes along the way. We had our grandson with us too and it was a very safe, kid friendly street.
We are just next to New Seabury & Popponesset...so go for a sunset cocktail to Popponesset Inn, or have a lobster roll & chowder at the Raw Bar, followed by an ice cream at Popponesset Marketplace.
