About Denise Leighton

My husband Don, Landscape Architect, has been contributing to the Boothbay Landscape since The early 90's. He designed the initial Master plan for the Coastal Maine Botanical Garden, made landscape improvements for the Spruce Point Inn and designed the 'Whale Park' in downtown Boothbay Harbor. Our family has been vacationing here every summer for more than 25 years.

Denise Leighton purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Denise Leighton chose Boothbay Harbor Area

This property was formally a campground. It's unique feature is the large open Meadow spanning over 300 feet of waterfront with unobstructed views. The property's water access is on the west with views spanning from southwest, west to northwest.

What makes this cottage unique

The sunsets are absolutely amazing and starry nights breathtaking. In June the firefles perform and incredible appearance with a haze of twinkling glow over the meadow.

A Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property in October, 2016. The location is spectacular -- very private, quiet, located on the water with a large field leading from the house to the water. We brought our dog with us and he absolutely loved romping around in the field. The owners even took care to have the field sprayed with a natural solution of cedar oil to help keep the ticks at bay. Much appreciated! The house is lovely and the views nothing short of stunning. Best of all are the beds!!! So many places we stay the house is great and the beds are horrible. They have seriously comfortable adult beds and it made a huge difference to our stay. The property manager, Michael, was a dream. He was so helpful and he reached out to us mid-vacation to see if we needed anything. His advice on dog-friendly hikes was perfect. All in all, this is a great place to stay and is very well located. We would definitely stay here again.

A Little Slice of Heaven!

  • 5 of 5

My fiancé and I spent 3 nights here over the Columbus day weekend with our two dogs. We could not have asked for more. The house is charming, pristine, very comfortable, well equipped and in a knock out setting. Making the arrangements with Denise was a breeze. Prompt and clear communications. Michael was there to greet us upon arrival - gracious, welcoming and a wealth of local knowledge. He was also readily available for any questions or concerns throughout our stay. The house is off the beaten path, but conveniently located to town, local amenities and destinations. While we enjoyed all of our excursions in the region, we most enjoyed coming "home" at the end of each day. We never tired of the views! As for the dogs, Sea Mist is Hound Heaven - playing in the meadow and Back River and retiring by the fire in the evening. Thank you Denise for sharing your home with us, and Michael for your hospitality. We are already recommending this spot to our friends and family, and looking forward to returning again!

Amazing vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family and I fell in love with this property! From the minute we booked until we arrived, couldn't ask for anything more. Upon booking Denise always returned emails very quickly and was very sweet. At our arrival Michael was extremely helpful and was always a text or call away for any questions we had.

We were able to bring our fur babies too, I find Maine to be very pet friendly, which for us is perfect. They loved running in the expansive meadow and being able to the waters edge.

We enjoyed the local shops and restaurants, only a short drive away. The kayaks that are offered to guests were so much fun, beautiful setting.

The sunsets were breathtaking to say the least...very relaxing and the accommodations were top notch. HIGHLY recommend Sea Mist.

Thank you Michael!

Thank you Denise and Don!

Everything We Could Have Wished For

  • 5 of 5

What is the perfect antidote to hectic day-to-day lives? SEA MIST! Highlights, in no particular order of importance: Awesome Mike, who is knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly; clean, tastefully-appointed accommodations; gorgeous autumn temperatures and foliage; coffee every morning on the screened-in porch; warm, relaxing fires in the fire pit every night. We are heading home wistfully, but with batteries fully recharged. Wishing you much success with future renters -- they are in for a treat.

Doggie Heaven!

  • 5 of 5

Our family was graciously allowed to bring our extended dog family along. The home is just perfect. You will want for nothing. The dogs definitely were able to roam free and enjoy the oh so close hiking trails. We couldn't have asked for better weather.

Denise and Mike were great to work with. We always knew that if we had any questions that we felt we could call on them at any time. We loved the fact that the house is far enough from the main road that the dogs would not wander too close to the road. While secluded, everything else you could possibly want is well within a short 6 mile radius.

We definitely want to come back and I can think of many friends and family that would also enjoy a stay here!

Thank you so much!!!
