About Denise Leighton

My husband Don, Landscape Architect, has been contributing to the Boothbay Landscape since The early 90's. He designed the initial Master plan for the Coastal Maine Botanical Garden, made landscape improvements for the Spruce Point Inn and designed the 'Whale Park' in downtown Boothbay Harbor. Our family has been vacationing here every summer for more than 25 years.

Denise Leighton purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Denise Leighton chose Boothbay

This property was formally a campground. It's unique feature is the large open Meadow spanning over 300 feet of waterfront with unobstructed views. The property's water access is on the west with views spanning from southwest, west to northwest.

What makes this cottage unique

The sunsets are absolutely amazing and starry nights breathtaking. In June the firefles perform and incredible appearance with a haze of twinkling glow over the meadow.

VERY Relaxing and Quiet setting.

  • 5 of 5

The property is amazing! The setting is very relaxing and quiet. 10 Mins or so from Boothbay Harbor! The kayaks were a nice added touch. The property manager Mike went above and beyond to make sure we got the most out of our stay and our experience in Maine! (Thank you for that!) 5 Stars! Would have given it a 10 if we could!

Fabulous accommodations and lots of space to relax.

Peaceful setting along a tidal river. Acres of natural beauty. Wildlife abundant. Close enough to the hustle and bustle of the harbor yet far enough away from the crowds to feel totally alone with the evening sunsets over the river, the star filled skies and the sweet morning smell of the mist on the river.

Beautiful home in a wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

We had a great family vacation at this beautiful Maine home. The house was clean, well appointed and in a convenient location to all Boothbay had to offer. Michael was very knowledgeable and attentive.

Perfect location in a clean and inviting cottage

  • 5 of 5

Can’t say enough praise for the cottage, the yard, the fire pit, the kayaks. In ideal proximity to Boothbay yet enough off the main roads to feel very woodland.

Wonderful home

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for a lovely home and a very gracious property manager for assistance during our stay in Boothbay! Your home was perfect and had everything we could need. The kayaks were a nice touch to go out exploring on the water. We would definitely stay here again as it was close enough to town to go out to dinner but far enough away to feel we had our own piece of paradise! We really enjoyed hiking on the close by trails.

Thank you again,

The Pandolfi Family

A perfect gateway.

  • 5 of 5

If you have a fast pace life and want to slow down, this would do the trick. A quiet place with a great view. Both the owner and the property manager, Michael were very nice and helpful.

There are tons if great things about this place others have already mentioned so I try to cover what may be helpful to you.

If you are into bird watching, bring a good pair of binoculars. They look amazing in the morning.

There is no dedicated dock to launch kayaks from. This can be a good thing because you have a better view from the house. If you like Kayaking, bring rubber boots otherwise you will get your feet or shoes muddy without an easy way to clean them. If you get over the getting in and out difficulties, the kayaking is great in the area. I am not sure if it is possible to make some sort of deal with folks next door to use their dock or seup something next to the bridge to have the best of both worlds.

There are bug repellents for mosquitos in the house so you don't need to bring any. We didn't use them and were hit on the warmer days but it was not bad when the tempreture was lower.

We didn't have a problem going up to the second level. If you think of it as a ladder, you will like it. If you think of it as steps you will be disappointed. I for one would have the design of the house exactly as is if I had the same square footage to play with. We loved the open space on both levels which would be reduced significantly had it have a more convenient step.

My google map sent me to a place three miles north of the actual location. Make sure you get it right before leaving. Here is the coordinates: 43.917148,-69.657738

The place and the people are lovely and will make you consider moving to Maine. Highly recommend.
