About Richard Streetman

Both educators with time to enjoy the natural beauty of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Richard Streetman purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Richard Streetman chose Manistique

We have explored and vacationed in the U.P. for many years and when we came across this rare find of property on the Creek and Lake Michigan, we knew we had to build our private getaway here!

What makes this cottage unique

The large sandy beach front and incredible views from almost every room in the house are enough to draw one to this vacation home, but add the benefits of the eagles, herons, deer, and other wildlife that frequent the property because of the Creek, make us never want to leave. If you bring your jet ski, sunfish, canoe, kayaks, or rubber raft, you will enjoy the added benefit of exploring the miles sandy beach shoreline from the water. If you bring your ATV, there are hundreds of miles of trails just a short ride away. We often ride our ATV to nearby Gulliver Lake and then on to Soul Choix Lighthouse and back.

Shorebird stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed Shorebirds beautiful house. We took advantage of all their outdoor spaces, garden, wrap around deck and gazebo to boot! Lake Michigan is right out your door. We watched the bald eagles search for their dinner along the shore. Wonderful place!

still a great home!

  • 5 of 5

This remains our favorite home rental, ever. I always think of it as a home, and not just a beautiful house in a beautiful setting. I am so pleased that renters have taken loving care of it. It is just as nice today, as it was the first time we rented it.

We had a very rainy week, but we never felt confined. So many windows and patio doors--each with a view of the lake or forest or landscaping. I can't imagine what would make it any nicer than it already is.

Beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

We have rented several homes and cabins on the Homeaway website and this was by far my favorite. The house is beautiful and the location right on the beach on Lake Michigan was amazing. The house has everything you would need for the perfect vacation stay. You can tell you are renting someone's home that they have made beautiful memories in, and they are sharing their home so your family can build their own memories.

Thank you so much for sharing your home with us. We will definitely come back.

Magnificent Lake Michigan Beach House!

  • 5 of 5

Don't look any further than this listing! You've found a stellar Lake Michigan getaway in this Manistique beachfront cottage. The house and amenities far exceeded our family's expectations. We spent a lot of time at the house enjoying the beach, playing cards/games and relaxing. There are fish to be caught in the stream by the house too! We didn't catch any whoppers (only some small bass and catfish), BUT we saw some big trout in there!

We also ventured further north and took a day trip to Lake Superior for the Pictured Rocks sunset cruise--a must see if you're in the UP. Another destination we enjoyed much more than we anticipated was the Big Spring which is local to the area. The natural spring was mesmerizing with its pristine water and emerald green colors. Our kids had a great time "driving" the self-guided raft across the water and looking at all there was to see swimming and bubbling down below. We've been back for weeks now and our kids still can't stop talking about how much fun they had on our vacation. We would jump at the chance to go back again!

Perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Every year we try to find a wonderful place to enjoy our family vacation. "Shorebirds" has fully completed our goal. From the moment we arrived, we could tell this was not just a rental property but also your home. All of the amenities that are offered kept us pretty busy. Our two young kids (7 &11) loved building sand castles, playing in the sand, & just running around like wild animals. I think they found every shell on the beach! Of course after all the fun outside, it was nice to come inside and relax by the fire & play some board games. We did venture out a few days, but it was always nice to come back "home" to our wonderful rental. Thank you Dick & Linda, we hope to return someday.

Best places to eat..... The Upper Crust & The Haywire Restaurant.

Great Week in Manistique

  • 5 of 5

This property is the complete package. We enjoyed the comforts of the lovely home & the way it was integrated into it's natural setting. We had pretty decent UP weather for early June. Most days we enjoyed the outdoors either from the deck or the beach. My wife is recovering from a knee injury & was pleased at how easily she could access the beach from the house. Insects were not a problem on the lakefront side of the house. At times there were swarming mosquitoes in the driveway area, but we had not much reason to spend time there. We spent the one rainy day in the house reading & watching the Lake.

We hope we might get the chance to come back next year. We would recommend the property to any one, but would have been nervous if we had small children because the home was so nicely furnished. (That's a compliment from "Seniors" with grandchildren.)

We made a day trip to the Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point with lunch at the Tahquamenon Brewery & Pub (a must see & do). We had lunch at The Upper Crust with shopping in the nearby art gallery & antique shop in Manistique (fun). Ate a takeout pizza from Main Street Pizza (very good). Got maps & info from the Hiawatha NF office (lots of places we never got to visit).

In phone & email contact the owner was responsive & helpful. We didn't need much customer service, the place speaks for itself.
