A place to rest

  • 4 of 5

We has a great time. There was plenty of space and everyone had enough bedding to stay warm. We especially enjoyed the fire pit and the convenience of being so close to NEOC for rafting. The only problem was because we got in so late the first night, it was hard to see the house from the road. Perhaps you would consider posting a sign. Also we were not able to use the canoe cause it was locked up. But otherwise we would definitely come back again.

A "cool" two months in the heart of Maine's forests.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I rented this home for two months in the summer of 2017. We spent the entire two months and were visited by my nephew and his family for ten days and my youngest daughter and her family and my other daughter for another ten days. Originally, we were not sure if everyone would come at once, making 10-11, so having 3 baths and a minimum of 3 bedrooms was a must. We were never more than six and it was very comfortable and spacious. We had several get-togethers so that my Maine family could meet their Arizona counterparts. The outside deck area provided an excellent place to get acquainted. We utilized the propane BBQ four times and it worked out fine as an extra bottle was provided. Although the lakeside fire pit was available, everyone was too busy to take advantage of it. The home is located on the stream end of the pond, so the pond is usually very calm. The available canoe was only used once. Baxter Park is just minutes down the road and my nephew’s family got to see a moose. They were also here for the free fishing weekend in June and fished for the first time in about 25 years, catching several pickerel and a catfish. Fishing licenses are available at the Katahdin General Store. Although the house takes a Millinocket address, it is just outside the town and about 5-10 minutes to several grocery stores and restaurants. Angelo’s Pizza, Appalachian Café and Scootic Inn all provided excellent meals. The house has a new washer and dryer, so keeping clothing clean was convenient. A new dishwasher had recently been installed before our arrival and was used often. The small guest cabin provided a little extra privacy for some of our guests, but the door facing the cottage was always left unlocked for their access and they felt part of the main house. Although the owners are often out of the country, they have a couple friends (that act as managers) that were available to assist with any questions we had. It seems as though we had only 4-5 days of the entire trip without rain, it was a pleasant change from 100+ degree Arizona temperatures. We did have one storm with a micro-burst that knocked down trees on the road to town and took the power out for 12 hours. The emergency generator kicked in and protected the refrigerator and contents and kept a second circuit on the other side of the house charged and available. The Pineau’s made us feel as if we were home. Highest recommendations.

Clean and cozy. BBQ grill on back deck was a plus - thank you! Could have used a dish washer though. Snowmobile from house is a plus. Washer and dryer were a plus. Sawmill Bar & Grill right down the street. Close to town. I would stay again.

Perfect for our needs!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this rental last week for a snowmobile trip. In all seriousness I cannot say that there was anything at all that was disappointing or negative regarding our stay. The house was warm and welcoming with plenty of space for the four of us and all our gear with room to spare for stretching out and relaxing. It was a very short distance to trail access with abundant room in the driveway for sleds and trailers. The open concept allowed everyone to be comfortable regardless of what we were doing at all times. We bring and prepare all of our own meals, and the kitchen and food prep area were more than adequate for what we needed to do to eat well. The grill on the back porch was a nice bonus also, as access to a grill during the wintertime is sometimes problematic. My experience and discourse with the owner was very pleasant from my first inquiry throughout trip prep right up through correspondence when the trip was over. Any questions I had were promptly answered clearly with a high degree of professionalism. It is clear to me that the owners take great pride in both their residence and hospitality. Although the property is located on a main road, it was quiet, peaceful, and allowed our group to maximize our down time for rest as we put in some long days and heavy miles on the trails. We had good cell phone reception (a rarity), and plenty of options on the satellite tv. I would highly recommend this rental to anyone looking for a great house-location for a sled trip. Although we did not need to bother him, it was comforting to know that there was a property manager close by in the event of any problems.I fully intend to use this rental again in the future, and hopefully my status as a former client will aid that wish because I believe as more renters discover this gem opportunities will become fewer as more people discover its charm, convenience, and high quality.

Great Home for Family & Friends

  • 5 of 5

Our group of friends stayed for a weekend away to go White Water Rafting. The house is conveniently located close to the New England Outdoor Center! We tried the suggestion that was left on the welcome note for Pizza our second night and it was great! There is plenty of cleaning supplies, paper products, towels & dishes/kitchen items. The only thing I would say to bring more of is blankets if you are the type that likes to bundle up! The house is very clean & great space with secluded property and lawn space for outdoor games. We very much enjoy our trips up, this was our second year staying in the home & likely many more to come :)
