Creekside is a 1.5 room cabin on a sunny grassy bluff above a rocky ocean cove
Creekside Cabin is a small secluded guest house 100 ft above a rocky cove on 2.5 acres of magnificent south Mendocino ocean front. It is in the "Banana Belt" with the sunniest weather on the coast. It was built as a guest house for the larger family retreat next door.
NOTE 1: We will respect your privacy and stay out of sight if we happen to be there when you are.
NOTE 2: We sometimes rent the big house (Clifftop House) for larger parties or for two people who want a larger rental. See VRBO #866480 for listing details or call or e mail for details.
The cabin is a one room studio with a queen bed, full bath and shower, electric range, refrigerator, microwave, and 2 large decks. Most of the cabin and its furniture were built by our family, friends and other local artisans. It faces southwest and enjoys a more than 180 degree ocean view including miles of rocky shoreline, and local coastal landmarks Havens Neck and Sail Rock. Stargazing, sunrise and sunset, moon rise and moon set are all exceptional.
Our few neighbors are invisible, rarely there - or both. With rare exceptions, despite the sweeping views, no house lights are visible from the property at night, so you feel as if you are alone on the planet or in a time long ago.
The grassy bluff in front of the cabin is full of wildflowers and butterflies most of the year. Birds, deer, bobcats, dragonflies all enjoy the grass and flowers. The gurgling of the creek next to the cabin is lovely - in the rare times it is audible over the breaking waves.
Whales (we've seen at least 6 kinds), seals, sea lions, dolphins, porpoises, river otters, sea birds are constantly in view off the bluff. Pelicans, hawks, falcons, ospreys, eagles, hummingbirds, deer, foxes with cubs, bobcats with kits all live on and visit the property. The small creek next to the cabin is filled with willows, azaleas, frogs, dragonflies, and song birds.
2 large sheltered decks with deck furniture are offered for wildlife or sunset watching, reading, cocktails, or dozing.
The Cabin is decorated with art and photographs created by our family, friends and notable Mendocino artists. We have furnished the cabin comfortably with homemade furniture, local artwork, comfortable sheets and towels, coffee maker (with local gourmet coffees), local Heath ceramic dinnerware, full selection of pots and pans, and tools for enjoying the bounty of local produce, seafood and other Mendocino County delicacies. Or you can enjoy the variety of nearby award-winning eat-in or take-out restaurants (there is even a good Thai place 10 minutes away!). Because we have no dishwasher we provide recyclable and biodegradable plates and cups.
Note the cabin is professionally cleaned before you arrive.
The property is not landscaped. Our family has worked for 3 generations to maintain the land as high quality habitat for native plants and wildlife.
There is wireless internet, a 32 inch flat screen Smart cable TV, and unlimited local calling. So if you want to, you can work from the cabin. We have never been able to do so, but if you can manage not to exclaim at the whales, pelicans, herons and the hawks, people never need know you're not back at your office.
We are 3.5 miles north of Anchor Bay, 7 miles south of Point Arena and 10 miles north of Gualala, all of which offer restaurants, shops, parks, and beaches. Our stretch of coast is empty and quiet compared to the Sea Ranch, Gualala or Ft. Bragg/Mendocino village. Nevertheless, there are light houses, historic sites, local craft shops, and spectacular county, state, and national parks to explore - even local music and theater in Pt. Arena.
The many big and small nearby beaches are generally emptier than most people have ever experienced. Our area is within a National Marine Sanctuary. Several beaches are less than 5 minutes from our driveway.
A gorgeous 1 hour drive takes you to Anderson Valley wine and beer tasting, Mendocino Village, Hendy Woods ancient redwoods, or Van Dam Pygmy Forest. Kayak the nearby Gualala river or the Big River near Mendocino Village.
See the Cabin Book for details and recommendations about restaurants, grocery stores, beaches, and what to see and do on the Coast.

We are sorry, but because of the steep cliffs and abundant wildlife, no pets or children are allowed at Creekside.

About Dan Feldman
Emily is a San Francisco/Mendocino native, ecologist/environmental activist. Emily's first field research project was on the ecology of this coast. Dan is a software entrepreneur. We are both semi-retired. Emily's family built this cabin - with their own hands - in the late 1950s/early 60s. As a child Emily and her mother installed the tile on the window sills.
Dan Feldman purchased this Cabin in 1955
Why Dan Feldman chose Gualala
Why Creekside? *With rare exceptions, despite the sweeping views, no house lights are visible at night. You are alone with the ocean and the stars. *Unlike Sea Ranch and much of the coast, there is no open access to our property. You have the waves, birds, flowers and 2 sunny decks to yourself. *the sheltered sunny blufftop meadow is a constantly changing display of wildflowers *The creek and the secluded location draw diverse wildlife year round. *We are located in the "Banana Belt", the sunniest area on the coast. *Sea birds and marine mammals seem to love our cove (see photos). There is always a show! *We have another VRBO property (#492927) in San Francisco. Take a look at our reviews to see the quality of our hospitality.
What makes this Cabin unique
We have 2.5 acres of pristine ocean front land with a creek, forest, native plants and wildlife. It is secluded. Although you can see miles of coastline, no other house lights are usually visible. The creek draws wildlife, frogs and butterflies. When the ocean is still you can sometimes hear it gurgling. Whales like our place -- they often stop to feed, rest and mate off of our deck.

Quiet, private cabin.
Thank you Dan
We had a very nice relaxing stay at your cabin. Sat in the sun on the deck and watched the whales head north along the coast. Very comfortable and beautiful views.
Thank you again.
Peaceful and tranquil retreat with stunning views!
We enjoyed every minute of our stay at this beautiful little cabin with spectacular views of the ocean! Checking in was a breeze thanks to detailed instructions by Dan. The cabin was spotlessly clean, and felt very cozy and homey thanks to the adorable decor and the fact that it was very well equipped with pots and pans as well as linens/toiletries etc. And the bed with the super soft sheets might have been one of the most comfortable ones I've ever slept in!
Thanks Dan for the lovely stay, looking forward to our next trip to this wonderful little piece of paradise.
Small, Rustic, Great View
Overall, this cabin met our needs fine. The bed was very comfortable and the views were just what anyone would want. Like other reviewers, we had difficulty with connectivity and after some time on the phone with Tech Support, we just tossed in the towel and accepted things as is. The pluses were the location and the bed. The minuses were the windows don't open allowing you to hear the ocean. There is a side window that rolls out that has two cranks. Careful with the left one as once opened it doesn't want to close. Overall, this little cabin is comfortable and cozy though a comfortable chair would be nice though there isn't really any room for one. The front lawn area is large enough to allow you to sit outside and take in the views. If you're looking for an upscale, nicely appointed property, this one isn't for you. However, if you're interested in a small, rustic cabin with a killer view, this might be the ticket.
We have replaced the WiFi router which will (fingers crossed) help the connectivity issues.
Very secluded. Wonderful view. Just perfect. But...talk about off the grid! No cell phone service, had a very difficult time hooking up to internet, could not get the tv to work.
The little house is just right for two people. Really enjoyed it.
Amazing and secluded!
This was an amazing place to stay! The bed was comfy! The views outstanding! The serenity much needed!!! Highly recommend this gem!
Perfect if you want to disconnect
Cute cabin, appointed in all the right ways, except internet access. There is no cellular service in this part of the world, and the internet at this particular property (we learned) is often unreliable and happened to be out during our stay. You can drive 5 minutes up the road to Anchor Bay to use the coffee shop's wifi, but it makes work a bigger chore (if you have to do it). There is a fully functional land line so text that to your pet sitter before you leave! ;P
