About Maythemi Salazar
My name is Maythemi and I was born and grew up in the same Playa Negra neighbourhood where my property is located. Currently I share my time between Panama and Costa Rica, this is why I decided to rent my beautifull beach house. My career is focused in eco-tourism and I like to share my passion and insider knowledge about the Southern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica with visitors.
Maythemi Salazar purchased this House in 2011
Why Maythemi Salazar chose Puerto Viejo de Talamanca
This property was passed down to me by my father who is indigenous of Talamanca. My family has the privilege to live right in front of the ocean in spacious gardens. What I like specially is that my property is in a tranquil residential neighborhood on a quiet sandy beach surrounded by lush nature, and still less than a mile away from the center of Puerto Viejo with its many restaurants, live music scene, shops and super markets. My village is a multi-cultural, multi-ethnical community with many family owned businesses, artists and holistic health therapists.
What makes this House unique
I designed my house with large windows and folding or sliding doors which you can open up wide to the sun light and the sea breeze. There is a beautiful view to the ocean and a big garden which offers privacy. A pletoria of many different activities and services are available, for example thai massage, relaxing massage, craneo sacral therapy can be arranged for your convenience at the house, as well as a private Caribbean cooking class or the services of a chef. The well equipped kitchen gives you the comfort and freedom to cook or bake when ever and what ever you desire. The airy Yoga Gazebo situated on the same property offers the opportunity to practice yoga with a view to the sea, with classes at a special discount fee for our guests.

Excellent location in quiet neighborhood.
The house is well equipped. It is very spacious and is just steps away from the beach.
The owners were very helpful.
One of our best trips ever!!
Four of us girls stayed at this wonderful house for three nights and loved it!! It isn't too far from town and right next a wonderful beach. You can bike, walk or take a taxi anywhere you want to explore. The pickup spot for tours and taxis is conveniently located right outside the gate in front of Maythemi's mother's house. Maythemi was so helpful on helping me get transportation, places to eat, or any other questions I had (which were many). We felt very safe and really enjoyed ourselves. Keep in mind where you are because you may run into a bug or two but it is not a big deal! Maythemi's mom is a wonderful and helpful lady!! We would definitely come back!!!
A Little Slice of Heaven
The pictures really don't do the house justice. The woodworking is beautiful, all of the rooms are nicely sized with excellent storage. The decorations and appointments are perfect. The kitchen is large, beautifully done and has all of the appliances (except dishwasher which really wasn't missed) that one might expect in a modern kitchen. The Wi-Fi, which was important to me for work, was fast and dependable.
Though we only had limited contact with them, Maythemi and her family (husband, mom and son) were all super nice and very helpful and informative. We were sorry we didn't see more of them.
The pedestrian gate at the front of the property is only a few steps to the beach across a dirt road. You have nice views of the beach (broken by the many trees that are on the edge of Costa Rica's beaches) and the sound of the surf is ever present in the house - which we loved. The beach which has a dark sand (Playa Negra) was generally pretty empty while we were there. The dirt road gets a little local traffic - bicyclists, cars etc. but this didn't bother us and there was a pickup that came by daily to sell fruits and vegetables - which we also loved.
We didn't rent a car, but did rent bikes in town for our entire stay and found them to be a great way to get around. There are also taxi's down by the bus station if you want to get to or from town in a car.
The house is gated, fenced and has an alarm so we felt very secure and it was a big front lawn for kids to play in.
My wife loves yoga and took class every day she could. She enjoyed the instructors and meeting the locals who attended the classes. While the studio is close to the house, the students (there were only a handful for any class) were quiet and respectful and we hardly noticed them. For us the studio and classes were a big bonus - not a deterrent.
All in all we had a fabulous time and I would definitely go back!!
Great house, great location. Overall a great place to stay I highly recommend it!
A Great Base for the Southern Carribean Coast
This was a great house to use as a base for travel around Puerto Viejo and the southern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. The house was comfortable, well equipped and in a wonderful spot just across from the ocean. While hanging out on the porch or sleeping in the master bedroom, the waves crashing onto the shore are a great feature! A fine VRBO property!
This is a beautiful home. The windows, wide open spaces, and location are perfect.
My husband and I came for a twelve-day vacation. Our adult son shared seven of it and wished he'd been able to stay the entire time---while we would have preferred to never leave. Access to town and supplies is convenient and easy, the local people we met were friendly and helpful, the homeowners are on site and thoughtful (easy to reach by email and response time is quick for suggestions or answers to questions), and there is a housekeeper that comes every few days and does a great job. Ask about transport to and from the airport, we had a driver take us from San Juan who was recommended by the homeowners. He was very helpful and drove us to get supplies on our way. The beds are comfortable, and there are enough towels and linens. Washer and dryer were appreciated. We ate at both restaurants within walking distance and had very good meals at each (red snapper the best choice IMO). Mainly we bought fresh fish in town at Mopri...a local restaurant that also sells fresh to the public...Seabass, warm-water lobsters, and snapper...other varieties we did not have time to try. There is a grocery store a short walk up the street with produce, and most other items, plus a produce truck comes around most days with the driver announcing himself as he passes by...with household doors and windows open you can't miss him. The kitchen is stocked with enough equipment, and we had wonderful, healthy meals. The beach is wild and beautiful, not crowded, and only a few steps from the house. Tropical sounds and waves were a serenade that took every last bit of stress away. We went river rafting, on a jungle hike to see waterfalls and sloths, lazed around in the hammocks, laughed at the sound of howler monkeys and roosters, took long walks on the beach, and left rejuvenated. Thank you for this beautiful home...we'll be back!
In the area of Puerto Viejo you have lots of options, some of these are, horseback riding on the beautiful beach, snorkeling at the Cahuita Natioal park or in the Gandoca Manzanillo refuge. There are lots of hiking and bird watching in different areas like Manzanillo, Kekoldi indigenous reserve, or in Cahuita. Surfing for begginers or pros at several beaches like Salsa Brava, Punta Uva or Cocles.
White water rafting on one of the nicest rivers in the world, kayaking on the ocean or Punta Uva tranquil river.
Indigenous culture torus where you learn all about this amazing cultutre, learn the way how they live and in what they beleive.
These are some of the many activities you can enjoy in the area.
