Our renovated Walleye Cabin is on a 4 cabin private association, (Formerly, The Sportsmen's Lodge and Family Resort) located on Moose Lake, a 1,670 acre, dark water flowage surrounded by the Chequamegon National Forest. This wilderness setting, with abundant land and water to fish, hunt, and explore, is a great place to spend your family vacation.
Enjoy your morning coffee on the screen porch overlooking the lake or walk down to the dock for some early morning fishing with the sunrise. At times, you can hear the loon calls in the quiet, peaceful northwoods.
The fully-equipped kitchen with adjacent dining area is a great place to relax and enjoy family & friends. The covered porch is a great place to relax with the fresh air and natural sunlight looking towards the lake.
The 1st bedroom features a log double bed and a log dresser. The 2nd bedroom also has a log double bed.
* With your rental, we provide: dishes, utensils, pots, pans, kitchen towels, dish soap, toilet paper, and garbage bags. You provide your own bath towels, paper towels, and toiletries.
* Bring your bed linens (Sheets, and pillow cases). Blankets will be provided. We have two double beds.
Moose Lake is well known for great fishing! If you are looking for a new place to fish, we have lots of musky, walleye, smallmouth bass, crappie, and panfish. Early morning and evening fishing off our dock is one of the best places on the lake!
My Grandparents, who lived in the Chicago area, used to take my sister and I, and cousins to vacation up in the Hayward area every year for part of the summers. We have stayed at various resorts around the Chippewa Flowage and some of the other surrounding lakes in the Hayward area. I have had many wonderful memories from grade school all the way through High School in this area with the family. My wife and I, have decided to have a place where we can use, and share our experience with other small families and friends to develop long, lasting, wonderful memories of the North Woods.
The Owner purchased this cabin in 2007
We chose this property for it's location and serenity on Moose Lake. It is away from the main hustle and bustle of Hayward, about 25 miles east, surrounded by the Chequamegon National Forest. We enjoy the vast wildlife and tranquility of this location. My wife's favorite experience was seeing fresh water otters for the first time! It is the perfect place to relax and unwind. You can also see on occasion; deer, black bear, raccoon, eagles, and elk within a 5 mile radius of the cabin! We also like to visit the town of Hayward for the shops and the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame Museum.
One unique benefit of this cabin is, that the boat docks that we have are situated where the Chippewa River flows into the lake. The choice of going up the peaceful lazy river or heading out to enjoy the 9 mile lake with several islands can be overwhelming. If you decide to hit the river, you can take a boat upstream for nearly 2 miles or canoe or kayak for over 10 miles. If an 8 mile or 16 mile canoe or kayak shuttle trip upstream is on the to do list, you can potentially see wildlife along the river or, fish and possibly catch some nice smallmouth, walleye, or run into a nice size muskie on the way back down to the cabin! The lazy current will lead you right back to our cabin's boat docks! The Chippewa river's low current above our cabin makes this river a great place for family outings or, for those who are inexperienced at paddling a kayak or canoe and would like to enjoy some outdoor relaxation. Just across the street from our cabin is Wisconsin Northland Outdoors. They have fishing guide service and they are also the ones you can arrange those river shuttle trips with! It can be a great way to learn how to fish muskie, walleye, smallmouth bass, crappie, and pan fish on Moose Lake. If you decide to travel to the other side of Moose Lake, the last 1/4 of the lake is completely undeveloped, which is a nice way to experience the beauty and quietness of the North Woods. It's a great place to be to get away from it all. You can fish, explore, and capture some nice photos for those albums!
The cabin is in a row with other cabins around it. You have a covered boat parking place for a small boat. Larger boats would not be able to fit under it. Ours did and it was sure nice when it rained and the boat kept dry. You have two ceiling fans, and one stand alone fan, but it was VERY hot in the cabin when it was in the 80's and 90's and humid. The lights need to have brighter bulbs in them as it was quite dark in there at night.
Phone reception and use of Wifi on your phone - well, expect to go outside and stand by the main cabin on the grounds to get service.
The cabin had a nice size refrigerator/freezer. Nice stove. Two bedrooms with full size beds. Cleanliness is my number one goal and it was spotless.
If you have any problems or questions, the owners are a phone call away. They are very helpful and email or call you with answers. I really appreciated their willingness to help.
Didn't catch much fish. No one around us did. Do not forget your bug spray because the biting flies and mosquitoes were horrible.
Cabin is a little small but clean and comfortable. Enough room for a couple or a small family. TV and wifi available to keep you sane when fishing is poor or weather isn't cooperating. Kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans and grill available out the back door. Best place to hang out is in the enclosed porch area where you get more natural light. Canoes available to use and fishing on the river is awesome. Moose Lake is also excellent for musky fishing. If you don't have your own boat then you can rent one from small resort that resides next door to the property.
You should make a visit to the Farmstead Creamery & Café. It is only 6 miles from our cabin. The gelato they make is some of the best we've eaten. They have wonderful cookies, and other baked goods. The pizza they make on their wood oven is pretty darn good. They also have some occasional outdoor music. There address is 11117 N Fullington Rd. right off Moose Lake Road.
