A slice of Paradise...

  • 5 of 5

This house embodies the desired combination of thoughtful owners and efficient managers. They have thought of absolutely everything, making for a stressless stay. In addition, the setting is spectacular: total seclusion and privacy, which can be most appreciated sitting in the hot tub after a long day exploring VNP, which is just a few minutes away from the house. The lava tube/secret garden is beautiful. Can't imagine anyone risking injury and/or ruining their stay in this magical place by going into the tube. Besides all the possible activities the area provides, this lovely home is a destination in itself. Our 7 year-old son wanted us to "come home" earlier each time we went out just so we could enjoy this gorgeous home. Thank you very much for making it available for rent.

Second Stay was just as good as the first!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at this property, and we loved it just as much as last time! If you're looking for a Volcano getaway, stay here — you won't be disappointed!

We love the seclusion of this home. The hot tub and wood stove make for a perfect getaway. This house is incredibly well-stocked. Everything you could need for your stay is there and intuitively placed. There are also usually a variety of condiments, coffee and other small items which reduces the cost of provisioning and helps when you forget things (like pickles for the bloody marys).

Jeff and Cathy do an amazing job and are very responsive, even when you have odd questions like, "Does the TV have an HDMI port?" (it does, by the way). This is also the absolute cleanest vacation rental we've ever stayed at. Our first stay was very shortly after this home was made available as a vacation rental, and we thought the amazing cleanliness was partially attributable to its newness. Not so. The house was every bit as perfectly spotless on this trip, three years later!

Wonderful place to stay on the Big Island

  • 5 of 5

My family loved this beautiful place in the woods on the Big Island. It was very clean, had plenty of towels and hot water. The kitchen was stocked with coffee which was a plus. We were near all the main places we wanted to see and do. It was minutes from the Volcano National Park and Thurston Lava Tube. It was also near great places to eat. We loved the privacy of this home. I would recommend this rental for the Big Island.

Secret Garden Paradise Near Volcanoes National Park

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed at many VRBO listed properties and this was one the top! The owners were very accommodating and gave us excellent directions which helped us find this hidden gem. The house was very clean, neat and well furnished and was as described in VRBO. The owners even left a supply of some kitchen staples for us to use. We had asked for recommendations on places to eat and things to see and were provided with a detailed set of suggestions.

If you want solitude near Volcanoes National Park - this is the place. I highly recommend giving it a try!

Better than advertised

  • 4 of 5

"Wow, I found 5 different ferns", " the hot tub's really hot!", " oh, lots of firewood AND space heaters!", " look, Coffee, and all kinds of basics and specialty condiments!", " it's so quiet here, and I can't hear you in the next room either!", "ooooh, enough hot water!", "the water is from the sky!? Direct to you, yes it does make your hair soft. I'm glad it's raining.."loving those extra blankets, it's so cozy with the wood stove and the garden so lovely, the park closure doesn't seem so bad. Let's see what happens tomorrow, it may be a perfect day."

And so it went. We did have a perfect day and a wonderful vacation. Even with a 5 hour detour to the Hilo ER to tend to my brother in law who wore shorts and had an unpleasant encounter with pahoahoa. We learned that lava is glass and has to be picked out of abrasions (on legs, arms, face and hands!) by 2 patient people who do this at least 2xday! It was the last day of a memorable and wonderful vacation. I highly recommend this house.

The reason for the missing star is the road. It was not really a problem, but The road is subject to some muddy and flooded areas when rain accumulates over a few days. It does slow one down if you have to make many trips back to the house. But rain makes green ferns and soft water and distance makes for quiet and private spaces. Well worth a little mud and puddles!
