Great Location, learned a lot about using a service like this.
This home away stay was a comedy of errors for us. I think it reflects more on Home Away then the property owner. From the beginning the communications came from too many different places. I received emails with out a problem, but then there were some messages that were on the app only, that I didn't know I needed to install. This was a problem because I thought the owner didn't answer my question, when in fact she really did, but it only showed up in the app. Also Home Away has this listed as a 2 bedroom, which it is not.
As for the property, the 1st day was extremely hot as no one had come by prior to our arrival to open any windows or turn on the AC. After a full day of travel across the country it would have been nice to come into a comfortable temperature in the loft. This was also the day that we learned it was not a 2 bedroom as was listed by Home Away. When I asked about it the answer was that it was explained in the description that there was a couch that sleeps two. I understand it was my mistake not to read the full description, but I really hope they change the listing after this.
The apartment was nice and clean. It was wonderful to have parking in the garage. The location really couldn't be better. Even though we had a full kitchen, there were so many places to eat within walking distance we never cooked. Walking to the beach each day was great. Having fans all over the apartment helped but we were there during an unusually hot time of year the locals told us.
The wi-fi was not working when we arrived. When we let the owner know that it wasn't working, and we had found what we thought might be the wi-fi box, they suggested that we plug it in. Problem was that there was no cable to plug it into. A few days later I asked about it, the issue was never resolved.
One question we learned we now know to ask prior to renting is, "what kind of coverage for the property is there?" Our reason was that we had gone out to a play on Friday night. We arrived back at the loft and realized we had locked all the keys in the loft. We texted and called the manager, no luck. It was late, around 11PM. We ended up looking for a hotel that night. The manger got back to us the next morning and got us back in around 10:00 am.
This is a great loft and location for the price and location for a 1 bedroom.
We enjoyed our weekend at the cielo loft. Great location and just steps from the beach and many great places to eat and drink. It could use a little updating but overall it was very cozy and charming. We would stay here again.
Near the beach and Washington Blvd.
The apartment was really nice. Only problem was that the air conditioning wasn't adequate for he apartment. But by evening time the apartment was cooled down so that sleeping was comfortable. The location, very near the beach and restaurants on Washington Blvd, was great!
Good and Bad
The property itself was good, well furnished and equipped, conveniently located. We were 1/2 block from the sand and pier and strip of restaurants and stores! Not mentioned in the description or reviews was that the place is on the alley facing the backs of bars and restaurants, so not a pleasant view, congested and noisy. Luckily the bedroom faces the owner's patio, so less noisy and very pretty. The directions given to the place are terrible, and don't mention that the street they are on is blocked off and the entrance is actually the alley! But there is a garage to park in, which is a godsend in that area. The internet was spotty at best, I just gave up trying to do anything but read e-mails, as it kept crashing. The place is well ventilated and air conditioned for summer. But during our visit it was cold, and repeated requests did not get anyone to turn on the heat. Eventually the weather improved and we were OK. With all the complaints above, we actually would stay there again, if they got a different property manager!
Barbara was a very difficult guest to host. she was old, frail and very confused every time i spoke with her. she kept leaving the garage doors open and couldn't seem to remember to close them. i was very concerned that if the garage stayed open for hours at a time that anyone could wander into my property and take my belongings. i had to call her every day and tell her that she had forgotten to close the garage again and to please please remember to close it.
i feel sorry for her for i think she is in the early stages of alzheimer disease or short term memory loss.
the day of her arrival she couldn't find the property and then got angry and belligerent with me. i had sent her detailed info lettting her know that the property was located on a walk street and that it was a bit tricky to find, so to be sure to map it before her arrival day. she ignored all this advise and then blamed me that she had a difficult time finding the property??.
once she arrived she couldn't figure out how to get on line... she kept insisting that the internet didn't work but i live next door and knew the system was working perfectly.
i sent my asssistant over to help her and my assistant got her on line in less than a minute!! barbara was so happy and couldn't believe how fast she got her on and connected.
my assistant told me she felt sorry for barbara for said she was too old to understand basic computer passwords and access to the internet.
barbara thanked my assistant for helping her to get on so quickly and then complanined that she had struggled for a few days with the internet. my assistant asked her why she hadn't asked for help sooner but soon realized that barbara had never read any of the txts or emails we sent her daily asking if she needed any help or assistance.
as a host im very saddened that barbarba left a mixed iffy review blaming my assistant. myself and and my property for all her problems and issues with memory etc.
i think she is just too old to take responsibility and it is easier to blame others than facing onew own issues.
she did say that she would come again if i got a new manager... my assistant manager is fantastic and i would never replace her.
im sorry to say that i would not like to host barabara again for i don't have 24/7
concierege service or nurse/assistant that elderly guests like barbara demand and truly need. guests like barabara really should stay in a hotel where there is 24 hour concierege services.
Perfect place to feel part of local community. You can walk or bike everywhere.
We stayed for about six days and it was comfortable and clean. The location was great as you were close to the beach, restaurants ad many local attractions.
Great location for a beach vacation
We really enjoyed how close this was to the beach and all the spots on Washington, literally 30 second walk. Venice Boardwalk is within walking distance but not so close that you have to deal with the crazies if you dont want. It was exactly what we were looking for and would go again. Its also a bit more roomy than we anticipated...
Venice Beach and Pier are only steps from Cielo Beach Loft.
There is everything from surfing to shopping near by.
