About Paul Evans

We have been vacationing in the Pier Port area since 1967. We have some family in the area.

Paul Evans purchased this house in 2000

Why Paul Evans chose Northwest

There is very little traffic on the road near the house, very quiet, short walk to Lake Michigan. If you get up early, you will have a chance to see deer, and wild turkeys. You are a short distance from Manistee, Frankfort, Traverse City. with plenty of things to do in the area.

What makes this house unique

Near Lake Michigan, Quiet, nicely appointed house, feels like home

They had all kinds of games an puzzles to use. A very nice welcome basket!! All we needed to bring was food. All the sheets an towels are there we brought are owe beach towels. We hope to re rent for next year depending on vacation time off. We hope to have a better fishing trip next year.

Great Stay for My Family

  • 5 of 5

This house was a comfortable home, away from home. It accommodated my family of 4, as well as nephews and spouses for an 11-day stay. With the large, bright and clean kitchen/dining room, as well as the spacious living room my party had plenty of space to share, as well as personal space. Beds were made up and all cooking amenities were available. The home was clean. Front and back porches kept the house from being tracked up. The yard is large and private. We were able to put our boat in Lake Michigan in Arcadia and on windy days in Bear Lake. Both launches were well maintained. The area is rich in activities and natural beauty. This newly remodeled school house was perfect for our families vacation.

Very clean and bright

  • 5 of 5

The Schoolhouse was very clean and the living areas and kitchen very spacious with two bathrooms, one up and one down, which was very convenient. The yard was spacious and very well groomed for the kids to play.

Our party consisted of 4 adults and 3 children. That seemed the right amount of people., We did not use the pullout couches in the living room but they didn't look very comfortable.

It was a short drive to the beach, very convenient, as well as short drives into Bear lake or Onekema for supplies. We went to Frankfort (20 minute drive) to cute shops and paddleboarding at the beach there. Nice selection of restaurants there also. Another day we rented kayaks at Riverside Canoe rental on the Platte River. Another day we drove up the lake highway to Sleeping Bear Dunes. There's plenty of activities and attractions to see in this part of Michigan

I would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives.

With amazing views, beautiful sunsets and wonderful comfort, this house was an amazing find. Plenty of room for all 10 of us, we plan to return in 2016. All the essentials were included, the house is very well kept and clean. We were greeted with a beautiful welcome basket with tastes of Northern Michigan. Our family walked to the breath taking beach of Lake Michigan several times a day and enjoyed the quiet scene and unplugged for the week. There are several things near by to do if you would like to venture more into the outdoors. Within a short distance there is major grocery shopping and additional beaches to boat or swim. I highly recommend this destination and can't wait for our family to return Summer of 2016.

Comfortable and clean, a great, relaxing vacation home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the schoolhouse 8/1 - 8/8/15. We found the house to be very clean and comfortable with everything you might need for your stay, including not only pots, pans and dishes, but a beautiful basket filled with goodies like wine, maple syrup and ingredients to make S'mores by the fire. (Take the goodies but leave the basket for the next guests.) 3 blocks down the road is the public access to a beautiful Lake Michigan beach and Old Faceful. Bring your water bottle and fill it up! The water is cold, pure and delicious! The owners are extremely helpful and nice and even called to check on us after a particularly bad storm leveled trees to the north in Glen Arbor and Traverse City. We found lots to do in the area including canoeing and kayaking. The best beach we found was in Frankfort, about 1/2 hour north. Crystal Mountain Ski Resort is also only about 1/2 hour drive and in the summer, they have alpine slides and we also went on a very nice "art" hike. This is also where we found the best restaurant, Thistle. Sleeping Bear Dunes and Traverse City are each about an hour north. Grand Traverse Commons is a very interesting place. It used to be a state mental asylum but has been converted to restaurants and shops. Our little dog also greatly enjoyed his vacation and loved walking on the beach. We highly recommend staying at the schoolhouse!
