Quiet, quaint, easy getaway
My husband and I took a long weekend getaway with our fur babies and this little cottage was just what we needed. Area is quiet and backyard is fully fenced and private which we needed for the dogs. Although we didn't use them, there was a grill and firepit available. The interior had all the amenities we needed. Couches were comfy, kitchen had everything we needed (minus a dishwasher! ha!). TV and Wifi services were good. There is a bedroom downstairs and one upstairs. We opted for the upstairs as it had (the only) A/C unit. But because it is a loft, the air made its way downstairs after a while. The first couple hours were a bit warm downstairs until the air circulated throughout. The only things I would note for others staying there is if you are a fan of sleeping with more than one pillow, note the bedrooms came with just two pillows per bed so we ended bringing up the ones from the spare room downstairs. Although there were towels available, there weren't very many (or perhaps we didn't find the extras), but we ended up bringing towels with us anyways for the dogs and had those we could use if needed. The walk to the lake access is negligent - very close! We did not have issues with crowded beach space and had our private area to enjoy each day. Although rules say no dogs allowed on beach from 8am-8pm, we snuck ours out there and let them swim for a few hours each day with no issues. Yes, the cottage could use a few updates here or there, but for a few days' stay with easy access to the water and dog-friendly area, this place is perfect. Owners responsive and kind as well.
Very nice cottage
We enjoyed our stay at this cottage. It was neat and clean, enough room for everyone and the owners were very nice people which we are glad to have met. Will definitely look to return again.
This cabin was exactly what we needed for our stay in Lexington. We would stay here again.
My husband said Lori was pleasant to work with as far as reservations went and the place has potential but that’s about all I can say in regards to the pros of this review.
My husband tried to surprise me with a relaxing getaway and this was everything but. I was so disgusted and uneasy with the lack of cleanliness throughout the entire place that I never got to enjoy myself. Ended up leaving a day early despite the fact two nights were paid for. The kicker part is there’s a cleaning fee and this place looks as if it hasn’t been cleaned in a long while. (I.e. the bed spread was all stained and looked as though it hadnt been washed so I slept with my beach towel, dead bugs under the bed, dust and cobwebs & mold and mildew throughout, carpeting was all stained, etc) At minimum, my recommendation would be a deep cleaning (including getting rid of the mold/mildew throughout), fresh coat of paint all over, and either new carpeting or completely do away with carpeting (especially in the bathroom)! I’m so disappointed with the money that was wasted on something that was supposed to be a relaxing getaway and turned into everything but. Especially given the fact that I was trying to escape from our own home renovations and know what a long way little effort and work can do! Upsetting to know this homeowner has no issue with taking money knowing the condition of the property. We definitely won’t be staying at this location in the future but did see others come up on vrbo that look promising.
This review is not consistent with any we’ve had in the past three years. We were blindsided by this as this guest neglected to contact us in any manner. Oak Cottage was just deep-cleaned a day earlier with shampooed carpets, newer furniture, and wipe downs. My husband even painted two rooms one week before. If this person had contacted me during her stay, we would have accommodated her, done an inspection and given a partial refund if her claims were legitimate. As it stands, all we can say is we’re sorry that she had an unpleasant time and we wish her luck.
Very peaceful and quiet location for a long weekend stay. House had everything we needed. Will book again.
We loved the house.
Thank you for allowing us to rent your home. It was a stressful time for us but being able to come to Lexington with no worries was well worth it. Great house great communication.
Scenic drives north will take you to Port Sanilac with its old-fashioned barn theatre and historic village. Michigan's oldest drive-in is located 20 minutes northwest of our cottage. Fun times!
