Why Allison Barron chose Victoria, Subd. A

This property was family owned by my grandparents and aunt. She then gave the property to myself and family to keep going for generations to come. The property is in a peaceful, tranquil area with the sounds of birds chirping with views of the water. Short driving distances to the beaches, basketball play ground and hiking trails.

Awesome cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our four nights at the cottage. The owners were very nice to help us by letting us know what areas nearby would be great for us to explore. We agreed with their suggestions. We would have loved to see a moose while we were here, but we only saw tracks across the road from the cottage. We even had time to put a puzzle together that the hosts supplied.

Quiet and relaxing stay!

  • 4 of 5

We LOVED staying at this quaint little cottage. There is A tv and Wii but we wanted to take in the scenery and enjoy the quiet time instead. Appreciated the scrabble board and extra puzzles :)

Family Cottage with a waterview

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is well appointed with everything you would need for a week on the island. The deck is great for morning coffee or a late dinner and has a great waterview. There is a home in front that is lower but doe not detract from seeing the water and the mountains. You are surrounded by all of their family so if you need anything they are right there-we got locked out one day and they came over immediately. There is a book with suggestions that the locals do such as South Shore beach and White Point. Both are lovely! The only thing I would note is that the bedrooms are upstairs and the bathroom is on the main floor.

Perfect retreat away from it all

  • 5 of 5

First, the view is fantastic-- I wasn't sure from the pictures how much of the water you could see, but it's a full panoramic view! The deck looks right out to the water, and the sun is so lovely in the morning. I loved drinking my coffee out there watching the sun reflect off the far mountains on the other side of the bay. There is a house and a road between the cottage and the water, but I did not find it detracting. All appliances are in good working order, and the heat/thermostats worked well. The wifi worked most of the time (sometimes a little slow in the evenings). We cooked 2 dinners there and found everything we needed as far as dishes and cookware. The second floor has a narrow, sloped ceiling which could be tough to navigate at the top of the stairs if your mobility is limited. The area is not walkable, but not many places in Cape Breton are especially if you are out of the villages. Groceries are a quick 10-15 min drive away, and many points of interest a close drive. We stayed with our 2 year old daughter, who loved the swing set and slide in the back yard. The setup was great for her! Overall would highly recommend staying here.

Comfortable and great view

  • 4 of 5

We stayed a week and what a great spot to unwind. Cottage is nicely done and comfortable with a great view off the deck and side yard. Only a couple of of little appointments could use an up grade but its the charm of the house that will impress you. Local food is off the charts good, and the tours in the area are great make sure to try the Ingonish Lobster boat Tails and Scales, nice fellas and good story tellers. Chowder House in Neils Harbour is a must, and mussels from McLouds are just the best...10lbs for 20 bucks..fresh. Groceries at the CO-OP in Neils Harbour has everything you need including booze. We are definitely coming back.

Live like a local and enjoy amazing view

  • 4 of 5

My wife and two preteen girls spent 5 nights here. Cons: Upstairs bedrooms (3) a bit tight and night trip to the bathroom entails negotiating narrow, somewhat creaky staircase. Pros: Amazing views of ocean and mountains of Cape North; perfectly maintained appliances, electric and plumbing; Keurig coffee; laundry, TV, Wi-Fi, Wii game console -- literally everything in the house worked! Pots, pans, service pieces, linens, towels, toilet paper -- it's all there. Location: Not much in walking distance (very hilly), but excellent beaches within 5 minute drive, grocery about 10 minutes. Owners were easy to reach by email or phone. For young, fit folks on the go, this place probably merits 5 stars. Might be too tight for seniors or folks looking for luxury. We will return!
