About the property

2 bedroom wooden house with stunning ocean and mountain views

Overlooking a beautiful bay with scattered islands, surrounded by a tropical forest, this house gives you a chance to get away from it all and enjoy unspoiled nature, peace and quiet.

The main building consists of an eat-in kitchen, a bathroom and a casual living room which opens out onto a spacious outdoor roofed terrace. From the open dining area, enjoy awe-inspiring views of the mountains, and breathtaking sunsets over the ocean.

Two air-conditioned private bedroom/bathroom units are connected to the main house by a covered walkway. Each one features a king-sized bed and ocean-view balcony.

Down the forested hill is a pathway with steps to your own private sandy beach, where you are greeted by the soft waves of the Pacific, calmed by the surrounding islands. The ground slopes gently and the water is always warm, making it ideal for swimming.

You can order a boat to pick you up at the beach and take you to explore the surrounding islands and resorts. Or you can go snorkeling, fishing or dolphin/whale spotting. Then again, you can always choose to just chill in the hammock and forget about the world!

Minimum stay – three nights.

A real Gem

The place is absolutely stunning. It would be a nature-lover's paradise on earth (anybody will fall in love with this place). We are city dwellers and it was a breathtaking experience to see a sky full of stars every night. The house was very spacious with all the amenities. Kathy, who manages the property, greeted us at David airport. She was extremely helpful and accessible at all times. She is friendly and dependable too. She did recommend a 4x4 because of the road condition. However, we managed with a minivan that had new tires (and it was not raining). One has to climb down to access the private beach and there are no guard rails. Therefore, not recommended for very young children. Notwithstanding the excellent directions Kathy provided, one or more signs - clearly visible from the main road, will be helpful to locate the house.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comment, Basu. We agree that the steps to the beach are at times steep and going back up is a little bit of exercise. (Our own children did the hike from age 4 with some help.) However, we haven't found any other place where we could both enjoy spectacular views from the bluff AND have access to an almost private beach. So hiking up and down is the price for this unique combination of great features. You are right about the signs and we have since added signs to make it easier to find our property.

Not as it's presented

  • 1 of 5

The potos make it look beautiful, but it's in dire need of a lot of repair. Lots of holes in the deck and boards coming up. Great trip and fall spots. Only 2 barstools and not the 3 shown, and the 2 that are there won't last much longer. Don't sit in the hammocks. Not only are they filthy, I wouldn't trust the lines to hold. Speaking of filthy, that's the way the house was when we arrived. We're in a dusty área, but this was days plus of dirt, bugs, crumbs under kitchen cupboards, ahir on bathroom floors. Yuck. Candles in glasses in the living área are disgusting - dirty and burned down. Need replacing. The grounds could stand looking after, too. Lots of trash laying around including a beer bottle, broken plastic clothes pins, old mop, etc., etc. There is no hot wáter in the kitchen for washing dishes! Bad!

We got off to a terrible start when no one was at the house when we arrived. We know no one in what seems like the middle of nowhere. Two calls to property manager, Kathy, and she finally calls back. She was here earlier, couldn't stay. Keys should've been given to us at the gate 5 minutes back down the bumpy dirt road, so we have to go back, get keys, and open the house to what I've already described. We were in shock, but what could we do. Kathy promised to be there that evening, but she never came. This would prove to be the first of many broken promises and a multitude of excuses for not being here. She would be here in the morning, then the afternoon, finally showed up around 5 p.m. - more than 24 hours after we arrived! There was so much missing from the house and to top it off, the stove didn{t work. Luckily, we had bought something for dinner we didn't need to cook.

Sincé this really rocky start, we've met people who live nearby who have been so helpful and friendly. Thank goodness for them and the resorts where we can Access wi-fi. By the way, internet could be made available at this house should the owners choose to do so. They obviously choose to let this house with a view and potential to to rack and ruin. Two power failures within a week of arrival also make me ask why lanterns aren't standard furnishings-equipment just in case. Can't imagine where the other raving reviews came from unless they're part of the developer conglomerate that owns this property.

Don't trust those reviews. This place needs a lot of help to be rentable again.

Owner's Response: We are frankly shocked by this review, especially from renters who chose to stay at our house for four full weeks. It is unfortunate that no one greeted Nancy and John at the house. Our manager, Kathy, waited for them for more than FIVE hours, without hearing from them before she left. These guests wasted her day, then got upset she wasn't instantly back when they arrived. Kathy, did more for this couple than for all of our other guests combined. She bought them a local cell-phone and loaded up the minutes ahead of their arrival, bought and delivered beach chairs they asked for, and got all kinds of kitchen gadgets and extra towels and linens as they requested. However, we balked when asked for air mattresses, a CD player with CDs, books and magazines to read and more pillows on the sofa. While we truly want our guests to be comfortable and are open to reasonable requests, there was no limit to this couple's demands. Also, they never suggested to us that the house was not clean. Had they done so, we could have easily sent a cleaner given how many other requests we fulfilled. Whenever our guests alert us to any needed repairs or maintenance, we respond promptly. During Nancy and John's stay, we immediately sent a repair man to fix (at no charge) the rolling doors which they broke TWICE. We also exchanged the first phone we provided when it "stopped working", while in their possession. We have always kept the house safe and pleasant for our guests, and have never before had guests whose wishes went so far beyond what we would be happy to accommodate. If you are the type of person who needs a lot of hand-holding, a concierge at your back and call, and the conveniences of a resort, we urge you to consider one of the local hotels. If, on the other hand, you are an adventurous nature lover who seeks peace and quiet, beautiful views and a lovely, safe, swimmable beach, you will not be disappointed. Boca Chica is a great place for a tropical vacation, but one cannot expect the services and amenities of a chain hotel. And finally, we are not a developer conglomerate. We are a family with young kids and for the last 8 years, Panama has been their favorite vacation.

Wonderful Eco-Retreat!!

  • 5 of 5

This home is gorgeous, perfect for those who love to be outside and appreciate the natural beauty Panama has to offer. This was our first trip to Boca Chica and we are already planning our return! The rooms were spacious and comfortable, including AC which is useful at night when sleeping. The bathrooms had good water pressure and hot water, and the kitchen was well equipped. The views from the house are just stunning, we could sit outside all day and just watch the birds, and the world go by. Kathy was great at communicating and very accomodating as we arrived to help us get settled in. She also helped us coordinate a snorkel boat to go out for the day, which was a wonderful day trip. The walk to and from the beach can be a bit steep, but the beach is lovely once you arrive and very private. Overall this rental is highly recommended for nature lovers who enjoy the comforts of home!!

Amazing stay

  • 5 of 5

This was the absolute perfect vacation rental- the pictures are truly representative of the amazing view from the property. The location was beautiful and the house has everything you need. Kathy was very friendly, available, and helpful (especially upon arrival when our bags were lost!)

Yes- the house is isolated, so you must be prepared for that going in. Groceries are necessary as restaurants are few and far between and the road was daunting the first time (4 wheel drive is a must) but became easier as our stay went on. But no problems at all with electricity, AC, etc. The private beach is accessible via a steep climb down but is worth the 5 minute walk!

If you are looking for a totally relaxing, away from everything vacation with a fantastic view I highly recommend this house!

Owner's Response: We're happy you enjoyed your vacation, Anna. Your comments are quite correct, and we encourage our guests to rent a 4x4 to navigate the rural dirt roads (which are thankfully getting improved every year).
