Overview

About the property

Ocean, Lake and Mountain views abound from every spot in the house

Your new favorite vacation rental is just across the street from the sand on the delightfully isolated Cape Meares spit. The home has expansive views from every window. The ocean, Cape Meares Lake and the coastal range hover about in sun and clouds, changing as the day meanders along.

Venture out the front door for a beach walk or launch the tandem kayak from the backyard. You may see Elk, Bald Eagles, Great Blue Herons, Osprey and more. The area is rich in history, flora and fauna. When you tire of the great outdoors, put a log on the fire, nestle up and enjoy the “modern rustic” ambiance inside. Read about the nearby town that fell into the sea, (the book’s at the house) and enjoy the distraction of the landscape. Storm watching is great as the clouds roll off the ocean, under the house, and resurface on the lake.

The house features a Great Room (kitchen & living), large deck with grill, wood stove (with free firewood), laundry washer & dryer, 2 bedrooms with 1 queen size bed in each, and 1 bath. The expansive sofa easily converts into 2 twin-sized beds and comfortably sleeps 2. House sleeps 6 total. Free WIFI Internet. No landline phone or television.

The kitchen is fully stocked with a microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, blender and all basic amenities. We have extra bedding, games for the kids, and all you need for a comfortable getaway. We recommend you arrive with food in hand, as the nearest grocery is a 15-minute drive to the Tillamook Safeway.

We're happy to accommodate early check-in and late check-out when available.

Dogs are allowed with a non-refundable $35 deposit. We even have dishes for Fido. Please note: There is a 2 dog max and we request the pups mind their manners and wipe their paws.

Book now to ensure your crew’s escape to one of Oregon’s hidden treasures.

About Genna Golden

I live and work in PDX and help run the family business. I have been a lifelong outdoor exploring Oregonian who loves yoga, design, and gardening. I strive to start Happy Hour at a reasonable time and bathe my children at least once a week.

Genna Golden purchased this house in 2014

Why Genna Golden chose Cape Meares

We wanted a vacation spot where our 2 kids could roam about and experience nature for hours on end. We feel so fortunate to have found this place, perched out on the spit. It fulfills every time and we love that it’s only 1 hour 45 minutes from our Portland home.

What makes this house unique

You feel uniquely isolated in nature yet connected to the village of Cape Meares.

So much fun!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our time at Last Resort. Where else can you get the Ocean infront and a lake in back? We brought our own kayaks and kayaked the lake in the back. We made it through the lily pads and onto the misty lake. We saw two huge bald eagles perching on a tree. Herons flew barely over our heads. We hiked the secluded beach. We loved going to sleep listening to the waves breaking. The house was clean and had everything we needed there. We had 6 people stay. Our teenage children slept on the couch, a cot we brought from home and on the clean comfortable beds. We loved being so close to the ocean even if it did get super misty and foggy. We hiked Cape Mears and Cape Lookout. We kayaked through the water trails of Tillamook County and just had a marvelous time!

We will return

  • 5 of 5

This place is an absolute awesome getaway. They have everything including binoculars for you to watch the osprey diving into the lake for fish. You hear the wondrous waves crashing.

The best of best:

1. Views and you can watch sunset from deck

2. Close to everything but far enough that we had peace and quiet

3. Almost new grill

4. Deck

5. Everything is comfy

The Good:

1. Everything is pretty well stocked but a bit old

Matter of Preference and FYIs

2. Beds are soft but I think this is a matter of preference, we like firmer beds

3. Not ADA friendly, steep set of stairs to get up and can get slippery in wet weather

4. No recycling so make sure to bring your cans home

Could be improved:

1. Cooking pots are old and scratched. I ended buying a stock pot and leaving it there. No biggie, there was a goodwill not far from Tillamook Cheese Factory.

2. There is dog hair everywhere but I guess this is what happens with a dog friendly place. Not a game changer for us but I could see how some folks with allergies might balk

All in all, we will be back. We loved it here. We loved being close to Netarts to go crabbing and loved that they had a row boat here. This is utter paradise.

ABOUT CAPE MEARES

The spit is rich in history. It was once home to Bayocean Park, a luxury turn of the century resort experience, which guests reached via private yacht. Alas, development of only one jetty changed the erosion pattern and the once grand resort slowly fell into the sea. The town is long gone, but what first enamored the developers still surrounds you. You can bike, hike and fish in the area and enjoy wonderful views of Tillamook Bay and it’s marine culture.

There is an interest in rezoning the spit from Recreation Management to Recreation Natural, which would preserve the land as a natural area and eliminate the option to develop. For those who have spent time here, you can see why preservation is in order. A herd of elk roams the land; it is home to Bald Eagles, Great Blue Herons, Osprey, and much more. It is a bird watcher’s paradise, and fishermen may line the lake, depending on what was recently stocked. Boats come and go from the bay, and the night sky is dark enough to study your constellations.
