Overview

About the property

Your new favorite vacation rental is just across the street from the sand on the delightfully isolated Cape Meares spit. The home has expansive views from every window. The ocean, Cape Meares Lake and the coastal range hover about in sun and clouds, changing as the day meanders along.

Venture out the front door for a beach walk or launch the tandem kayak from the backyard. You may see Elk, Bald Eagles, Great Blue Herons, Osprey and more. The area is rich in history, flora and fauna. When you tire of the great outdoors, put a log on the fire, nestle up and enjoy the “modern rustic” ambiance inside. Read about the nearby town that fell into the sea, (the book’s at the house) and enjoy the distraction of the landscape. Storm watching is great as the clouds roll off the ocean, under the house, and resurface on the lake.

The house features a Great Room (kitchen & living), large deck with grill, wood stove (with free firewood), laundry washer & dryer, 2 bedrooms with 1 queen size bed in each, and 1 bath. The expansive sofa easily converts into 2 twin-sized beds and comfortably sleeps 2. House sleeps 6 total. Free WIFI Internet. No landline phone or television.

The kitchen is fully stocked with a microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, blender and all basic amenities. We have extra bedding, games for the kids, and all you need for a comfortable getaway. We recommend you arrive with food in hand, as the nearest grocery is a 15-minute drive to the Tillamook Safeway.

We're happy to accommodate early check-in and late check-out when available.

Dogs are allowed with a non-refundable $35 deposit. We even have dishes for Fido. Please note: There is a 2 dog max and we request the pups mind their manners and wipe their paws.

Book now to ensure your crew’s escape to one of Oregon’s hidden treasures.

About Genna Golden

I live and work in PDX and help run the family business. I have been a lifelong outdoor exploring Oregonian who loves yoga, design, and gardening. I strive to start Happy Hour at a reasonable time and bathe my children at least once a week.

Genna Golden purchased this house in 2014

Why Genna Golden chose Northern Coast

We wanted a vacation spot where our 2 kids could roam about and experience nature for hours on end. We feel so fortunate to have found this place, perched out on the spit. It fulfills every time and we love that it’s only 1 hour 45 minutes from our Portland home.

The view of the ocean and lake was wonderful. We loved watching the birds and we paddled around in the lake. Blue skies for all three days!

Great beach house, wonderful location

  • 4 of 5

My family and I spent 3 relaxing days at the Cape Meares beach house. We loved the access to the beach, the quiet neighborhood, the wildlife (lots of waterfowl and deer) and the fantastic views out the back window. It's close enough to town to get things you need, and close to the cheese factory for treats, but feels a world away. A few disappointments......the grill didn't work, the access to the lake is very difficult (dock surrounded by weeds and getting a boat in is next to impossible) and a few interior finish and operataonal issues (toilet doesn't flush well, old windows difficult to open). But this didn't take away from the fun that we had and the family memories. With a few fixes, this place is a real gem.

Owner's Response: I visited right after you and we installed a new high efficiency toilet and replaced the old BBQ with a sparkly new one. Your patience with these items was much appreciated as indeed, they were at the end of their useful lives. Lake access is constantly changing. The very dry year caused excessive water evaporation and plant growth. When the rains come, access will likely be restored. Glad you enjoyed the trip regardless!

Peaceful Beach Retreat

  • 5 of 5

The location of the house is ideal for a quiet get-away. It is a moment's walk from the sparsely populated sandy beach. The open lay-out of the house provides views of the ocean and the lake. Windows provide you with an ocean breeze while the wood stove provides you with ambiance. Our party of four had a fantastic time in this charming place. I highly recommend it.

Loved the property, the proximity to the lake and ocean!

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful, relaxing vacation with my family. The house was clean and orderly, and had everything we needed. We loved the proximity to both the beach and lake. We wish the lake was easier to access from the dock, quite a chore to get past the reeds, but once out there its serene and beautiful. This is definitely a place for peace and quiet, not many things to do in town, the beach was not ever crowded with people. There is a lot within driving distance, if you seek more town excitement and crowds. There is also a lot of hikes nearby for those who love to be active. We loved it and would like to return again.

Great Stay

  • 5 of 5

My family really enjoyed this stay. The house was great for kids, it even had some toys and beach stuff! The location to the beach was amazing! The owner displayed excellent communication through out the process! I could not have asked for a better experience! I am already trying to figure out how to get back to this house as soon as possible.

ABOUT CAPE MEARES

The spit is rich in history. It was once home to Bayocean Park, a luxury turn of the century resort experience, which required it’s own yacht to reach. Alas, development of only one jetty changed the erosion pattern and the once grand resort slowly fell into the sea. The town is long gone, but what first enamored the developers still surrounds you. You can bike, hike and fish in the area and enjoy wonderful views of Tillamook Bay and it’s marine culture.

There is an interest in rezoning the spit from Recreation Management to Recreation Natural, which would preserve the land as a natural area and eliminate the option to develop. For those who have spent time here, you can see why preservation is in order. A herd of elk roams the land; it is home to Bald Eagles, Great Blue Herons, Osprey, and much more. It is a bird watcher’s paradise, and fishermen may line the lake, depending on what was recently stocked. Boats come and go from the bay, and the night sky is dark enough to study your constellations.
