Wonderful location and extraordinary views

  • 4 of 5

We chose the apartment for the views and weren't disappointed. Set on a hillside overlooking the bay with a large deck, the setting is extraordinary. The owner was accommodating, set us up with Starbuck's coffee, milk and biscotti. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking and the grill is an added bonus. As others have commented in reviews, the apartment does feel a little cluttered, more like renting someone's lived in space than a short term rental. Windows in bedroom and deck could use a deep cleaning. Noise from the airplanes and helicopters is fairly constant but overlooking the naval airbase has its charms. Overall, we'd rent the apt again.

We LOVE this place!! Best stay in San Diego.

  • 5 of 5

We love staying at Andy's place. It is so nice, comfortable, has a big yard, and the views are fantastic. The landlords are so easy to communicate with, accommodating, and everything is so nice at their house. We also love the location - far from the noise of the planes taking off but with epic views and cool ocean breezes. Close to the beach, restaurants, all the fun.

This was our second stay at Andy's and we hope to find the time to come back again soon.

disappointed

  • 1 of 5

I didn't feel comfortable staying in a home that felt like someone was still living there. Lots of personal items and collectables in the home. My understanding is that after the parents moved out the son turned it into a rental. He lives in the basement. Seems like a nice decent guy. But he could do more to make this home more inviting, in my opinion.

I thought the kitchen was very disorganized. Each type of dishware/flatware was in multiple locations. Cupboards have too many items a renter would never use. The refrigerator was dirtier than I would like it and it has old items in it. The owner said he leaves things there that other renters leave behind just in case someone wants to use it. A bottle of creamer had expired over a year ago. There's an unkempt feel to the whole place.

New TV, but no satellite or cable service and the blue-ray DVD player wasn't working. The owner told me this upon my arrival.

I found an accumulation of hair in the master bathroom sink screens when I arrived. And rotting food under the kitchen sink drain catcher. The cleaning felt like it was just a quick surface clean, not professional done.

I could go on and on with more personal nuisances, but you get the idea.

I understand that some people wouldn't be bothered by any of this. But I thought I should mention it for those like me that have different expectations.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your constructive review. I'm sorry our home was not up to expeectations. We have been making an ongoing effort to de-clutter. Since your review we have purchased a complete set of matching dishware and glasses with service for 8 and placed that in a separate cupboard for our guests.. A professional cleaning service has come in and helped us with a "deep cleaning" of the house.

Million-dollar view and excellent location but ........

  • 4 of 5

The house with its physical arrangement is 3 1/2 stars; the location and the million-dollar view are 5 stars. It has an abundance of kitchen supplies, great artworks, and it’s very spacious. Close enough to almost anything in San Diego. Unlimited eating establishments nearby.

Having seen only 5 star reviews for this house, we were extremely disappointed to find a grossly stained carpet in the bedroom and bath (they measured for new carpet during our stay), very dirty windows, and dirty deck and entry. Otherwise the house was reasonably clean. The bed and linen are clearly not 5 Star. There is no cable or satellite TV (does have a nice TV/with NetFlix) and there is curbside parking only. For the technical savvy know that there is only a router extension upstairs.

The house is a single-family two- story residence where guests live upstairs and the owners live downstairs and from time to time voices and TV audio can be heard between the dwellings. From a privacy viewpoint, we were somewhat uncomfortable with the physical arrangement. Others may not consider it an issue.

We stayed at this home for a month and during that period we only contacted the owner once and that was to reset a circuit breaker. Overall no issues dealing with the owner.

I would recommend this house to a friend with reservations and then only if the carpet is replaced.

Perfect home & location

  • 5 of 5

This stay lived up to my lofty expectations. Andy was great to deal with. The home is just as pictured, with an open living room with a wall of windows overlooking SD Bay and downtown, nice kitchen, then step down to a TV/bookshelf area and the outdoor deck. The view is better than shown (always looks farther away in photos), very good view from deck and perfect from living/dining room (view slightly blocked by trees on deck). Large master suite and huge master bath. The hills are VERY steep (think San Fran), but we still walked them for a good workout. This area is very residential and not touristy, very centrally located to anywhere you want to drive. Great restaurants nearby, Cabrillo and Sunset Cliffs just minutes away. Been home 3 days, but mentally I'm still there. Thank you, Andy... we'll see you again!
