The Seashell Cottage is a 2 bedroom, 2 bath that sleeps 4. The Seashell Cottage has been completely remodeled in a colorful Key West style. The Cottage is fully equipped with everything you would need
to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable, except food. The Hidden Compound is nestled on a ½ acre beautiful property full of mature trees and tropical landscaping.
Amenities include onsite laundry room which has a small library for
your reading pleasure: (some books are added by guests and some
travel with guest to far away places), a fire pit next to the Tiki Hut to
enjoy and relax in the beautiful weather that Florida has to offer. The Seashell Cottage has a lanai, a small kitchen with all you need to cook and prepare meals (perhaps your local catch of the day), a grill in the Tiki Hut, a cozy living room
area to relax or enjoy a cup of coffee overlooking the court yard full of
tropical plants. Tropical fruit trees are on the property and guests are
able to enjoy fresh fruits when available. For the artistic guests (or not
that artistic), there are fun fences waiting to be decorated with
nautical art, paint and brushes are supplied and guests are welcome and
encouraged to have fun with paints. The owners will judge best painting

receive a complimentary 1-week stay at the Hidden Compound (contest
rules are posted in each Cottage). Events may be held at the Hidden
Compound with 2 months advance notice if available.
Living on site, George and Joanne are available 24/7 to make sure our
guests have a memorable stay and hopefully return again and again.
If your lodging needs exceed 4 people, check VRBO Listing #802315 to see an adjoining one bedroom unit.
George and Joanne Toms, recently married in 2013 are your hosts.
Born in New Jersey, George moved to Sarasota at the age of 18 to escape the weather of the North East. Retiring in 2012 after a 25 year career as a Firefighter/Paramedic from Sarasota County Fire Department, George now owns GLT Property Services; an excavating and facilities services business. His passion of historic restoration of old homes has made The Hidden Compound what it is today. Able to build or fix anything, The Hidden Compound has kept George busy since 2003.
At age 24, Joanne left a small fishing village in New-Brunswick Canada where she was born. After traveling the World as a registered nurse, Joanne settled near her sister in Florida in 2008. Currently employed as a Registered Nurse at a local hospital, Joanne still enjoys her career of 29 years. With all of her travels, Joanne brings a worldly touch to The Hidden Compound. Her passion though, is gardening, which keeps The Hidden Compound colorfully beautiful year round.
Both George and Joanne truly enjoy meeting people, and have friends from all over the world. They love entertaining and often have gatherings of friends and family from places far and wide. Both have a great love of the outdoors: camping, traveling, sailing, riding motorcycles (on which they took a 6000 mile round-trip to Canada last summer)
George and Joanne Toms purchased this cottage in 2003
George Fell in love with this property many years ago because of it's private surroundings full of big trees and spacious lot, also the proximity of many attractions but still having a private and secluded feeling. Seeing it for sale in 2003, George jumped on the chance to own it. Things really took off in 2011 when Joanne moved onto the property; her visions and design talents gave George's building skills direction. The result is continual improvement of The Hidden Compound. Originally rented annually, many friends likened the property to a resort, which inspired the idea of vacation rentals. As leases expired, units were completely remodeled and furnished. We look forward to sharing the uniqueness of The Hidden Compound with our guests.
George and Joanne were wonderful hosts and made us feel like family. The cottage was cozy with everything we needed and close to beaches that beckoned for long daily walks. Pizza night is a must.
Great property and wonderful hosts. Lots do all around you! We enjoyed Nokomis Beach and the North Jetty, Myaka State Park, Jungle Gardens, Sarasota waterfront and skate park. Lots of fires around the fire pit and wonderful new friends!
Cozy and beach themed furnishings. Painting the fence was a huge highlight of the trip also!
Wonderful stay! Would recommend this to anyone that wants fabulous accommodations! Hosts are very friendly and knowledgeable. You made our vacation unforgettable! Thank you and we'll be in touch'
As advertised, it was full of charm and convenient to everything we wanted in our Florida vacation. The owners, George and Joanne Toms, were the perfect hosts and thought of literally EVERYTHING! The cottage is complete with everything one would want or need in a delightfully happy and efficient setting. We loved the fact that it was in an area where we could walk to restaurants, neighborhoods, and easily reach beaches and attractions in minutes by car. The hospitality provided was as though we had been friends for years and we especially enjoyed the fun and funky colors and special attention to interior design with unique and comfortable furnishings. Within a day, we knew this was a place to which we would want to return...so we reserved another month in 2017!!! Thanks, Joanne and George, for sharing your piece of paradise with us.
I don't have access to enough adjectives to describe how much we enjoyed our stay at the Hidden Compound.
The unit itself was comfortable and felt like home by the second day. The owners ( now our friends) are marvelous.
If I had my "druthers" we'd return tomorrow!! You"ll love it :)
The location was what I was looking for. Close to beaches and easy access to Venice. The cottage had everything I needed and then some. Owners were on property and very responsive to any questions.

It is an interesting and eccentric place to visit. The drive to the middle of nowhere is a beautiful one thru the country and orange groves. Be ready for the artistic mind of Mr. Solomon. There is also a little cafe to have lunch. Great motorcycle ride. See their website for more details www.solomonscastle.org
A short 3 minute drive will take you to Casey Key Fish House, a world famous waterfront restaurant and tiki bar..
For more local info on restaurants and attractions (including coupons), there is a folder in your unit.
As long-term residents of the area, George and Joanne are both great resources to inform our guests of local activities and attractions
