4 Bed white marble Croatian seafront house. Ideal for 2 families to share
We had always wanted a place in the sun and decided to take a short break in Croatia to see what was available The rest is history. We saw Orange Grove House, which had been renovated by a German builder, liked it and ended up as the owners of a lovely stone Croatian house right on the seafront.
Owner purchased this House in 2004
Why Owner chose Postira
We bought this house because it is a really lovely house. It had been really well renovated by a German builder and it is in a fantastic location, sea front and in the heart of the village of Postira. What makes this house special is that it is a part of one of the old seafront houses built by the Venetians when they governed Croatia. It is rare to find such a large seafront house that is not in multiple occupation. The house is massively built of white Brac stone [the same as the White House in Washington] and is very spacious [locals remember it was a convent in the 1920's].
What makes this House unique
Seafront; An enormous amount of space; very large bedrooms; king sized beds; two bathrooms; two washing machines; a 200 year old stone barbeque; a huge ground floor sitting room; a totally enclosed garden, very suitable for children. Close to the recently constructed oval solarium and bathing area a few minutes away from the house. Very suitable for two families to share the house with each having a floor and a bathroom to themselves. There are two washing machines in the house which is also useful.

Charm, spacious and a great location
This is a place to relax and have lazy days. We spend a great two weeks in Orange house - two families, 10 in total. The house is perfectly located in a small and charmy litle village - easy to walk to nice small beaches, restaurants and grocery, and the kids managed on their own in a quiet and safe environment. The house is old, but with nice bathroom and kitchen and had a large veranda in the back where we had our meals, we missed airconndition a few warm nights, but in total this was a great place to spend a summer holliday.
Charming Old House near water's edge.
We first stayed in Orange Grove House in September 2013. We wanted a house and location which would suit our family group of 7 including 5 grown up children in their 20's. We liked it so much that we returned the following year. The house's location is perfect on a quiet harbourside above a small and very friendly café/bar. There is a small front balcony overlooking the water and a large verandah out the back where we could relax in the shade and enjoy family meals.
Being 200 years old we knew what to expect- a quirky, charming layout. It has spacious bedrooms and a modern large tiled shower room and toilet. The kitchen was fine and perfectly adequate for our needs with the usual white goods. We ate in most nights ( fresh fish is available daily, sold on the harbourside below) and the "boys" particularly enjoyed using the wood-fired oven downstairs under the terrace. The kitchen was well- equipped but don't expect state of the art culinary equipment. There is a washing machine in the bathroom downstairs although we didn't tend to use this room as there was plenty of hot water in the shower room. Large shuttered windows added to the charm and fans were provided . We left a comment in the visitor's book noting that the stairs should be better illuminated at night.
In September there was easy parking in the car park behind the good little supermarket nearby. The local pebbly village beach is just around the corner and there are a few small restaurants around the harbour and a large hotel opposite which is very welcoming.
We really liked the laid-back feel in Postira and the friendly locals. We were able to hire a small boat in the village for a day's trip along the coast which was great fun. Having cars was useful to explore the island but not necessary as you could use public transport and it's only a few kilometres to the ferry at Supetar.
Orange Grove House worked very well for us. The location was perfect and the layout of the house meant we had space for young and old to feel relaxed. We would certainly visit it again in the future.
Thank you for your lovely review, Robert. It is always a pleasure to get good feedback.
This is a house that really works for two families sharing as they can each have a bathroom, whilst both families enjoy the dining terrace, TV room and terraces.
We have had the lights fixed, and the house has been refurbished for the new season. It would be great if you came back again, or you might like to visit Harbour House, our house in Bol [CR45] which we have also owned since 2004.
Visit to the sunshine
We visited this lovely house with another family We had 4 children with us and had a marvellous time staying at this property.
The house is situated right in the little village centre so it was very near to the lovely restaurants and shops. The supermarket, produce market and bakers are just round the corner so ideal. The beach (stone is literally a 5 minute walk away) and is fabulous for the kids. The small harbour is right on your door step so if needed to you can jump on one of the small boats to visit the other areas or hire your own like we did.
The house accommodated us perfectly, we were two families so one had the upstairs and we and the lower floor.
Downstairs there is a bar that we often popped down to or you could sit out the front or back and watch the world go by and watch the sun go down.
This house was ideal for us as it was basic, it wasn't fancy but was clean and comfortable. Everyday we lived at the beach, came home then went out for dinner. It was very central, great size for our size of party.
We are so glad that you liked Orange Grove House. It is a lovely house with loads of space for a large family. We always appreciate feed back as it helps us to maintain the house well.
Lovely location, quite basic
Picturesque location, but most nights live, very loud bands playing until 1.30am just outside. No lighting up the entrance stairwell, so dangerous and no front terrace light, as ancient wiring disconnected!
Kitchen very basic and building layout quirky with the bathroom on the ground floor, shower room on the first floor, so a trek to the loo if you're in the bedrooms on the 2nd floor with the harbour views.
The shower pressure was excellent, but hot water would be limited if there were 8 of you sharing.
Beds were really good - big and extremely comfortable.
We refurbished the house at the end of 2015, adding air conditioning throughout the main house [the newly created konoba sitting room is cool already] and installed double glazing on the front of the house.installed double-glazing on the front of the house. All of the lights now work as does the shower.
We note the comment about there being insufficient hot water for 8 people, but we have had in excess of 8 people in the past and have never had a complaint about any lack of hot water.
Regarding the comment about absence of a loo on the top floor, we are going to create a second shower room/loo on the top floor for the 2017 season.
Very good stay, very nice house
We really enjoyed the authentic house, nice rooms. Outside the two terraces to enjoy one side of the harbor view and the other to the garden for lunch. We were afraid of noise but the harbor is very quiet and the coffee below very discreet. The site is ideal in the center of Postira.

Thank you so much for your lovely review. We are glad that you appreciated the unique quality of Orange Grove House [wonderful position, really spacious, on the seafront and right in the centre of Postira].
Nice holiday haus
First impression of this house was really nice. Beautiful location with everything you need nearby. Haus itself is big and spacious, although it is really old. But its age gave the building special note, charming one. Howewer there were also some small disapointing issues, which were promptly resolved by the nice ladies, who took care of the haus.
We were 3 families together, and we were totally happy to have big nice terrase, allway in a shadow, old fireplace to grill on and small terasse in front of the haus with sea view.
Postira is a lovely place, we are totaly in love with it now. Calm, quiet, no cars in the town center, beautiful.
Of course there are a bar in front of the haus, but it didn't disturbed us a lot. Futhermore it was a time of World football cup and we wached some games there.
Thank you for a wonderfull moment and beautufull memories, Postira!
Thank you for your lovely review. Diana and Ivana, our property managers always do their best to ensure that our guests have the best holiday that they can provide. You said that there were some small disappointing issues, which were promptly resolved by Diana and Ivana but you don't say what they were. Please would you tell me.
A new venture for Postira is the wonderful marina that it has recently built. Constructed of white marble it is sandy and oval in shape, and provides very safe bathing and sunbathing for both adults and children.
Our guests have access to a lovely swimming pool. [it is a given that they will pay for their recliners and buy a drink from time to time].
The beach immediately in front of the house is ideal for small children; adults who like to swim in deep water can swim from the sunbathing platform across the harbour; 3 km away is Lovrecina beach with its shallow sea and sand [there is also a sweet little restaurant next to the beach].
For guests with an interest in history a trip to Split is a must. Split Old Town, complete with shops, supermarkets, hotels, doctors and dentists is a functioning town in all respects and is constructed within an amazingly well preserved Roman Palace built by the Emperor Diocletian 2,000 years ago. The Palace cellars have been made into a Tourist Mecca with many shops selling a great range of items ranging from original painting to the white marble objects for which Brac is famous.
