About the property

Clean, cozy house in the wooded area of the island with hot/cold outside shower

Escape to OKI is time to relax, unwind, take a breath in a cozy 3 bedroom 2 bath house on pilings in the quiet, wooded area of the island. On June 1, 2015 a brand new Trane AC/Heat pump was installed so it is unlikely that you will have to worry about the AC going out during your stay. Our home backs up to a vacant wooded lot and is just a walk or bike ride to the recreation center or the beach via the scenic walkway at the end of our street! At the end of our driveway take a look to the left and you just might see a sailboat making it’s way up the Intracoastal Waterway. Enjoy the sounds of Mother Nature from the front porch, on the glider swing or laying in the hammock. Feel free to bring your boat- the driveway is wide and long. The area has 3 free public boat ramps with the closest one at NE 54th. You can access the more than 60 free parking beach access points via SE 40th Street. This is a family friendly beach with no high-rises, few condos and a limited commercial area - it rarely seems crowded even with the 50 places to dine from Southport to Oak Island.

Our home is on the north side of the island, what is called the wooded section. It runs alongside the ICW versus the ocean. For enjoyable walks or bike rides, I suggest going down the tree lined Yacht Drive. You will have glimpses of the ICW all along this route. Rent bikes or kayaks at a nearby retailer or bring yours along. There is a park on Yacht Drive (on the ICW) that is just a short to near 15th street. The Rec Center is just a short walk to the end of our street.

Our home is currently a 3 bedroom 2 full bathroom (adding an additional bedroom and bath downstairs in the future) on pilings with 2 covered parking spaces under the home and a long wide drive with extra space in front of the house. The front porch faces east toward several mature trees to enjoy your morning coffee in the sun. We have a washer/dryer downstairs for your use. We have a newly installed outdoor hot and cold water shower and ac/heat unit.

This home has an open floor plan between the living room and kitchen. The living room has a sectional that could sleep 2 with two reclining chairs and ceiling fan and end table and coffee table. A flat screen TV with Direct satellite rests in one corner with DVD and a VCR (if you remember what this is). High speed internet with Wi-Fi is available for your use.

The kitchen is equipped with refrigerator/freezer/ice maker, brand new coffee maker, two back up coffee makers, stove/oven, microwave, blender, toaster, coffee cups, glass wear, silver wear, wine glasses and all other standard necessities for the kitchen and more.

The master bedroom has a queen size bed, a closet, ceiling fan, two night stands, 2 dressers, iron and ironing board, full length mirror with flat screen satellite TV that adjoins a full bathroom with vanity. There is a second full bathroom down the hallway. One spare bedroom has two night stands, ceiling fan, a closet with full size bed with NEW mattresses and pillows and mattress pad delivered June 2017. The other spare bedroom has a brand new (June 2017) queen size bed with recliner, table and 2 night stands, ceiling fan and closet.

We provide blankets and pillows and a limited supply of kitchen and hand towels. If you need us to provide linens (towels/sheets) there is an extra charge of $65.00. We do NOT allow Pets and NO Smoking inside!!

Enjoy outdoors in the rocker glider, table with 4 chairs and umbrella down stairs and 6 chairs on the deck upstairs.

Check-In is 4:00pm EST and Check-out is 10:00am EST

About the Island and THINGS TO DO

Oak Island has 65 public beach accesses as well as fishing docks and 2 piers, boat ramps and many other access points to the ICW and Davis Canal making this the perfect location for fishing, boating, kayaking and other water activities. Call the Adventure Company (910) 454-0607 to rent kayaks- go explore our creeks and marshes. OKI also has a municipal golf course and eight parks, ranging from a fishing T at the west end of the island to a large park on the mainland complete with baseball and football fields. There is a skate park, a dog park, a cabana on the oceanfront with an observation deck and plenty of places to find a quiet spot to relax and enjoy the view. You are less than one hour from Myrtle Beach, 30 minutes from Wilmington, NC and 10 minutes from shopping & dinning in Historic Southport, NC.

The island has a Food Lion grocery store located on Oak Island Drive and SE 59th St. plus there are two Lowes Foods and Wal-Mart on the mainland in Southport. For all of your adult beverage needs the ABC store is located at 54th Street and check out Grape an Ale on Oak Island Drive as they have wine tastings and events regularly. There are many great stores to shop locally on the Island, check out Tidal Merchants and all the consignment shops the Island has to offer. Oak Island and Southport have great Restaurants just to name a few of our favorites: Island Way (nice dinner), Shagger Jacks (lunch and dinner), Turtle Island (dinner), Dead End Saloon (late night/lunch), Bella Cucina, Joseph’s Italian (Southport) and Fish Taco’s at Flying Fish Café. Taylors, Russell’s (breakfast), Loco Joe's and Provision and Company (SP) and Oak Island Sub Shop for amazing subs and salads and Sweet Treats for Homemade Ice Cream. Check out Ark Wellness for your mani/pedi, massage and acupuncture needs (located next to Grape & Ale) If you are in the market for a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle with warranty and financing options check out Coastal Auto Network on Long Beach Rd.

Nesting season starts in mid-May and turtle eggs hatch later in the fall. Our turtle nests are Federally protected so please be mindful. Be sure to fill in any deep holes you dig on the beach and remove all your personal property when you leave so the turtles can reach their nesting site without obstacles.

Did you know Oak Island is a south facing beach? You can watch sunrises AND sunsets from our beach!!! Plus we have a lighthouse, a Coast Guard Station, a public golf course, several churches, and an awesome local airport, Cape Fear Regional Jetport where you can take a Helicopter ride or go sky diving.

Historic Southport is a maritime village located only fifteen minutes away on the mainland. It sits at the confluence of the Cape Fear River, the Intracoastal and the Atlantic. Watch the container ships, sailboats, fishing vessels, powerboats, kayaks and the like from Waterfront Park. Plus Southport has a wide array of restaurants and shopping to offer you and the family. Drive to the Deep Point Marina and catch the passenger ferry to Bald Head for a great day trip. No cars are allowed. You can rent a golf cart, tour the island and have a nice lunch before heading back. Or catch the Ft. Fisher Ferry and for $5 per car, take a trip to the other side of the Cape Fear and visit the aquarium or the Wilmington beach communities of Kure, Carolina and Wrightsville Beach.

About Angie White

We love to offshore fish & have found that OKI has everything we want in a beach community. From fishing to dining to relaxing you can't beat OKI after working hard so we made OKI our home!

Angie White purchased this house in 2013

Why Angie White chose Tranquil Harbour

We found this home and knew that we had to have it as it was close enough to everything but far enough away from the hussle and bussle, it is in the quite, friendly, wooded neighborhood of the Island and is easy to maintain so there is more time for relaxing and fun!

What makes this house unique

Convenient location and quite and friendly neighborhood with the ability to walk to the beach via the scenic overview along with the convenience of several locations to put your boat in the water. There are 2 fishing piers and several other areas to fish. The rec center is at the end of our street with too many activities to list, including Kayaking! Enjoy riding your bikes to the beach or along Yacht Drive as you watch the boats go by on the Intracoastal Waterway or walking to the beach via the scenic overview.

Clean and cozy house with scenic walkway to the beach

  • 4 of 5

Our family of four adults and one child stayed at this house during our vacation to Oak Island, NC. The house was clean with everything we needed to feel comfortable. Little details were nicely taken care of and kitchen was fully stocked with essentials. Outside shower with cold and hot water was very convenient to rinse off after a day at the beach. Outside patio with shade was very nice to relax in the evening. Overall, very nice and clean house. We enjoyed scenic walkway (takes about 14 minutes) to the beach.

Great looking home

  • 5 of 5

It's a great home to stay at. You wouldn't even know you had left home. In a great community, not to far from the beach and close to restaurants. I would recommend and stay here again. Thanks for letting me rent the property.

Owner's Response: We hope you did very well at the US Open Tournament. One of the many reasons we bought the house is for the fishing and having enough room for our boat. Glad our home was available for you. Come back next year. Thanks again!
