Waterfront architectural gem with sunset views and sandy beach on Big Glen Lake

Bedrooms 3
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

Deerbrook cottage is located at water’s edge on the east side of crystal clear Glen Lake. Deerbrook has 200 feet of beautiful private sandy beach with a gently-sloping, soft sand bottom, perfect for swimming and water sports. The cottage features a prime view of the spectacular sunsets over Alligator Hill. We rent in the summer months and early fall, depending on our family schedule. Deerbrook is rented weekly from Saturday to Saturday.

Deerbrook was designed by noted local architect Glen Arai, who re-crafted a classic 1930’s cabin in the woods into an architectural gem. Stone fireplaces in the living room and master bedroom and natural exposed wood throughout the cottage create a warm, comfortable living area. Broad expanses of windows overlook the lake and a quiet stream, visually bringing the outdoors into this lovely home. Large decks both lakeside and streamside allow dining or relaxing while catching morning or afternoon sunshine.

PLEASE NOTE: We set the schedule for the summer in mid-January, once our family plans are in place. We give priority to returning guests and remaining weeks are then made available. Please feel free to contact us with any questions and/or to be added to our waiting list.

Deerbrook features:

-3 bedrooms, 2 baths; with double beds in two bedrooms and two twin beds in the third bedroom, comfortably accommodating six adults. The front room also has a fold-out couch.

-An enclosed front room with sliding glass doors all around to let in cool lake breezes on warm summer days.

-Modern, gourmet kitchen with an unencumbered view of the lake and woods so neither cook nor dishwasher feel deprived of the outdoors while preparing meals in the kitchen.

-Dual fuel gas range, dishwasher, microwave, washer, dryer.

-Cable television, DVD player, CD, stereo.

-Wifi (Wireless internet).

-2 decks, lakeside and streamside, with table and chairs, grill.

-Dock and mooring buoy.

-Towels and linens are provided.

Deerbrook Cottage is the perfect choice for a Glen Lake, Michigan family vacation. Please contact us for availability.

A wonderful way to return to the most beautiful place on earth

  • 5 of 5

I vacationed at Glen Lake as a child many times and brought my 83 year old Mother to spend a week in this lovely home. The view was great for the sunsets, the dock was perfect for reading and climbing into a kayak, the porch on the other side of the house was sunny and nice when the winds from the lake kicked up, the kitchen was complete and the beds were very comfy. The house has wonderful views and a very well-equipped kitchen. I highly recommend this property and would return there in a heartbeat.

Best Vacation Ever!!!

  • 5 of 5

I have spent three separate weeks in this home in three consecutive summers. You need to go here. I should not be doing this review so that I can keep this well kept secret to myself but that would be mean. Everyone should experience the beauty and serenity of this home and this area of the country. I have travelled quite a bit and this is a place I always come home to. You are a few yards from the beach and a short car drive to the center of town. The lake is as beautiful as the pictures show. I learned to kayak here. There are things to do for all ages. If you can get a reservation in this beautiful place, you won't be sorry.

Truly a gem! - ABC's Most Beautiful Place in America

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this exceptional cottage right on the water at Glen Lake. It's so warm and inviting, we instantly felt at home. The cottage has beautiful wood beams and hunky river rock fireplaces, but light-filled with huge window views in every direction - to the stream in back, to the woods, to the gorgeous sunset every evening. Decks front and back and a long, lawn to the water's edge. The lake is crystal clear, with a sand bottom that drops so gently, there's lots of room to swim and play. Truly this is a gem. We can't wait to go back! I bet the fall colors are stunning.

The area was a perfect mix of down home Americana friendliness and modern amenities. We first heard about from friends, then saw it in an ABC video that called it the Most Beautiful Place in America! We flew in from the west coast, changing planes in Detroit, then drove an easy 30 min from Traverse City airport. You do need a car, but there's a lot to do only minutes away. Or just hang out at the cottage.

Stuff to do - We had plenty of lazy days at the cottage, swimming, reading, grilling, and s'mores on the fire. We rented a sailboat at a marina right on the lake, and they also had powerboats, kayaks and jet skis for rent. (The cottage has a dock and a buoy for mooring the boat.) Even a lovely, authentic French restaurant we could walk to!

Sightseeing - Since we stayed two weeks, we also had plenty of time to see the area. Easy, short drives to hike and drive in the Sleeping Bear National Park, climb up and run down the dunes climb, visit an old coast guard museum on Lake Michigan, canoe the Crystal River, shop Cherry Republic and the Cottage Book Store and play some pool at the pub in Glen Arbor. A little farther to visit Leland's Fishtown and sail for a few hours on a tall ship in Traverse City! We found lots of farm stands selling produce and fruit picked the same day, bought incredible fresh lake trout and whitefish, and wine tasting at vineyards nearby. There was even polka dancing, young and old all together, just a hoot!

From first to last, the owners were so accommodating, it was easy to book and make all our arrangements. The cottage was clean and comfortable, fully stocked, we had everything we needed.

Truly this is a gem! We've traveled much of the world and this really is a special spot.

Wonderful - Spacious - Clean Home and Most AMAZING View!

  • 5 of 5

The home had everything we could possibly need! The beds were very comfortable and rooms are quite spacious. Two full bathrooms was also a nice plus when having 4 girls stay here!

Starting your morning with a fresh cup of coffee sitting on the front bench gazing at the beautiful lake is a must.

The drive into town is not bad at all, only took about 15 mins.

Make sure you visit Cherry Republic!

Incredible Lakefront Property

  • 5 of 5

I stayed for a week in August, and I couldn't have been happier. The house itself is a well maintained cabin style house with more than enough room for a family to stay. I was lucky enough to have the whole place to just a few friends, so there was plenty of room for us to spread out and relax. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals for the week.

There is a small nearby town that has a couple quaint restaurants, and it was nice to visit it shortly, but it was hard to leave the property.

The best part of the property, by far, is the back yard. You have an amazing view of the sun as it sets behind the lake directly West of the property, with a dock leading out to the water. The water, oh, the water. It is approximately five feet deep for over 100 feet from the edge and impressively crystal clear. We spent almost the entire week in the backyard and in the lake water, amazed at how we could see our toes so clearly. In fact, I have stayed at lake houses in Georgian mountains, in Kentucky's Lake Cumberland, and on many coastlines and I have never seen water this clear.

In short, I can't wait to find myself back at this property for a week again. Glen Lake is a special place, and this property is perfectly situated on it.
