About the property

House, 3 Master Bedroom Suites, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

You can have it all! True 18th century charm and 21st century convenience on one of San Miguel’s oldest streets, in a quiet, desirable neighborhood just three blocks from San Miguel’s elegant, festive Jardin. This beautiful home is charming and comfortable, offering bright, colorful interiors, gracious outdoor living, and stunning views. Great for 2, 4, or 6!

Casa Cielo has 3 MASTER BEDROOM SUITES – each with its own private bathroom, walk-in closet, and cantera stone fireplace. Their configurations differ as follows:

• The TWIN bedroom master suite on the ground floor has two twin beds, a vaulted boveda ceiling, sitting area overlooking garden patio, TV/DVD, and a tiled bath and shower.

• The KING bedroom master suite on the second floor has a king-size bed, doors leading to a plant-screened terrace, TV/DVD, and a tiled bath and shower.

• The QUEEN bedroom master bedroom suite, also on the second floor, has a queen-size bed, vaulted boveda ceiling, tiled shower, and a separate connecting study-sitting area.

The separate study-sitting area that adjoins the queen bedroom has a vaulted boveda ceiling, desk, sofa, TV-DVD player, and a beautiful view to the courtyard below. Because this space is also accessible from an outdoor passageway, it can serve as a studio-study for all guests if desired.

All bedrooms share an internal stairway to rooftop terraces with extraordinary views of the Parroquia and town, lake, mountains, and sunsets. Lie in the sun on chaisse lounges, or sit in the shade under the tiled veranda.

The brand new washer and dryer, located in a closet on the second floor outdoor sala, is super quiet, energy efficient, and easily accessible.

You’ll love your choices for relaxation and enjoyment throughout this thoroughly modern home with 18th century walls. In the living room you’ll find overstuffed sofas and chairs, a hand-built stone fireplace, and thick, warmly colored walls. In the dining room you may gather for meals at a long country table. The brightly tiled kitchen is ready for cooking or for being served.

Relax in the stone patio by a sprinkling tile and stone fountain. Sit outdoors at tile tables or in the cool shade of the outdoor sala with its overstuffed sofas and chairs.

This home is in the best area of town, across the street from the home of one of Mexico's most famous actresses, close to buses and within short walks to everything, only three blocks from the Jardín. There is parking on the street and a supervised parking lot is close by. The neighborhood has its own wonderful little bar around the corner, the Fat Mermaid, recently featured as not-to-be-missed in the New York Times.

Maria Luisa, the housekeeper, comes to clean, do laundry, and make the beds three days a week. The property is professionally managed by the English-speaking manager who is always on call in case you have any problems or requests. Your can arrange through our manager for a cook by the day for a modest extra fee.

About Jay W Vogt

We three 'ran away from home' to San Miguel de Allende for a six month 'sabbatical' in 2004. We picked San Miguel for its beauty, history, and vibrant arts community, and because it reminded Stephanie of the neighborhood in which she grew up - San Angel, in Mexico City. The house location is Montes de Oca 14 in Historic Centro.

Jay W Vogt purchased this house in 2004

Why Jay W Vogt chose San Miguel de Allende

Building in Mexico is so magical. The house is like a work of art to us that we get to walk through and live in! San Miguel de Allende is a UNESCO World Heritage site full of beauty and history. We walk everywhere, and love our property's privacy, quiet, and stunning views.

What makes this house unique

The house itself is a sweet place to enjoy any time, and it changes through the day as the light and temperatures change. We love walking to the Jardin in the evening to join in the 'paseo,' and visiting the nearby Parque Juarez. Walking the streets, and visiting the town's many shop and restaurants, is great fun. We love the vibrant cultural life of San Miguel. And visits to the Charco, the botanic garden, and the hot springs, are also treat!

Architectural Delight

  • 5 of 5

Casa Ceilo is the most wonderful place for our gathering of old friends. Beautifully restored, this home has all the grace of SMA's traditions, yet the modern conveniences we have come to depend on. Located in the heart of the city, my day starts with a walk to the bakery and delivering treats to the roof top terrace as we watch the City come alive. With such an enchanting start to the day, there is little motivation to move on from inspiring morning moments with old friends to outside adventures. Yet when we do, more amazing experiences await: Horseback rides with Rancheros into outlying canyons, guided bicycle touring the high country with the family run business around the corner while learning centuries of local history, evening strolls to the Jardin alive with vibrant celebrations nightly, Art walks, endless world class dining... and of course, my favorite pastime, hat shoppping. Such a plethora of riches, yet returning to Casa Cielo provides a welcome refuge. If you are coming to San Miguel, you might be lucky enough to stay here. Plan ahead!

spectacular

  • 5 of 5

Dear Jay,

Hola!

We can't thank you enough for allowing us to stay in your magnificent home. The views from your beautiful rooftop garden were the highlights of our stay. I even had the good fortune to see a giant rainbow arc over the entire city! The sunsets, the fireworks, the light in the morning, the balloons floating by, the birds..all of it, totally wonderful. Of course, there were the barking dogs and the firecrackers and the insanely steep climb on those almost unnavigable cobblestones...but one needs that to counterbalance the beauty and provide the comedy!! One day there was a burro right outside our door in the morning! How wonderful..an UBER driver!

So, yes, we very much enjoyed our visit to the magical city of San Miguel and we are very thankful for the privilege of staying in your beautiful home.

Most sincerely,

Leslie and Paula

Fabulous colonial house in a perfect location !!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Montes de Oca 14 for a fabulous week. The house is really perfect: colonial style, warm, and had everything necessary for enjoyment. The housekeeper, Maria Luisa, is simply delightful in every way too.

My favorite parts of this home are three things:

1- the perfect location - 5-10 minutes from the center of town. (And a town w AMAZING DELICIOUS RESTAURANTS.)

2- the perfectly gorgeous view from that garden rooftop- a treasure!

3- the amazing people who own the house and their most sincerest desire to make you happy...as well as the most delightful Maria Luisa, the housekeeper.

4- oh, just one more: the Mexican people ...in general ...have so much joy and hearts filled with gold. And really safe!❤️

A Must-Stay in the Heart of San Miguel

  • 5 of 5

I had the opportunity to stay in this outstanding home early May, 2017. Before diving into the place itself, it’s important to note that it’s amazingly close to the city center with easy access to terrific restaurants, famers markets, stores, and the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel (the gorgeous cathedral).

After a busy day of exploring the city one of the best parts of the trip was having the time to unwind in a place with several bedrooms, every essential appliance, and a truly remarkable/enormous balcony. Whether it was bringing pastries back from Cumpanio in the morning or relaxing with a beverage for the sunset, the House was more of a sanctuary in the heart of a buzzing city.

I also made dinner and breakfast a few nights out of the days spent there... So for any of you home cook chefs, the place has all of the kitchenware you need!

Overall I strongly recommend this home for any visitors looking to explore the beautiful city of San Miguel De Allende!

Magical Stay at Casa Cielo

  • 5 of 5

Casa Cielo is magical! This home is perfect for families or friends to gather while visiting the historic city of San Miguel de Allende. Nestled on a narrow alley in the historic district , it is a short walk to the Jardin Allende and the Parroquia de San Miguel Archangel. The roof top terrace was the perfect spot to start our day with cafe, tea and fresh pastries from the local bakery, while listening to the sounds of birds and the city below coming alive. Our days were spent exploring the city and its' architecture, mountain biking in the surrounding country, visiting an exquisite folkart gallery, walking in the Jardín Botánico El Charco del Ingenio and feasting in many of the fine restaurants and local cafes nestled throughout the city. We would end our days back on the roof top enjoying drinks while watching the sun set over the distant mountains and the lights appearing in the Parroguia. Everything you would want in a home away from home has been thought of by the gracious and unassuming owners. We were surrounded with comfort in this thoughtfully designed casa. We look forward to our return.
