Loved it. Great price and excellent house

  • 5 of 5

We were shocked by the amount of space we had to enjoy. This cottage style house had everything we needed or wanted. For example, Tupperware!!! We also really appreciated how quickly Cindy responded to us. This timely communication kept our stress levels low. Albeit a drive from some of the major cities like Kona and Hilo we didn't mind the scenic drives. Being in the middle meant we could get to either easily. Lots to do on the way. Her place was a stone toss away from two really great grocery stores. When we left her place and went onto stay in a treehouse we both said, "man I wish we were still at Cindy's place". Loved it there.

We had a very great time. the house and the area is beautiful and I would recommend this to our friends and family. it was a relaxing experience and were right in the middle between kona and hilo.

Owner's Response: Several folks have appreciated that the house is more "centrally located" between the east and west side (Kona and Hilo) of the island. This was a major consideration when I bought the property due to my work agenda. I am happy to share that accommodation with my visitors. I know that if folks stay either in Kona or HIlo, they frequently do not make it to the other side of the island. This is unfortunate because the island is "The Big Island" and traveling can be more tiresome then folks want to spend on their relaxing vacation. Not to mention that every part of the island has beautiful and unique experiences. I look forward to future guests that have an interest in exploring the island in its many diverse and beautiful gifts.

Wonderfully private and quiet

  • 5 of 5

Cindy and her husband have a wonderful place. Cindy was very helpful and informative and also gave a great massage for my wife and I. The place is quiet, private, away from the crowds, well kept and well stocked with everything you need. Great kitchen. You can also have the luxury of nude sunbathing because of the wonderful privacy. We would like to book this place again Jerry and Tina Feb. 2018

Owner's Response: I am very happy that I can provide an environment that is a good fit for people :) I strive to keep the house stocked and ensure my guests have as much privacy as they need. Everyone's feedback is welcomed and I will always attempt to upgrade and expand on my accommodations as suggested. It is always great to see folks again. I am so grateful for conscientious guests and their considerate care for my little hale (house). Mahalo! Cindy

Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at "A Little Piece of Mind" was wonderful. The house was very neat and clean with some everyday supplies to get you started. Just Imagine waking up every morning and being able to look at the ocean while you brush your teeth and get ready for the day. We were lucky enough not to have any brownouts our whole stay. So I don't even know if they happen very often. We never had any problems with the internet or phone service either. The washer and dryer looked new and worked great with a clothesline if you prefer. I loved spending time in the area in the picture. I could look out at the ocean and read my book sunburn free. There was dish TV with premium channels for down days, but no HDMI hook up on the TV for you gamers. I never cooked with a gas stove before, but after learning I want one. There are a couple beach towels provided and some cloth shopping bags, very useful, they are working toward a no throwaway bag island. Cindy the owner gave us a lot of great tips on things to do, places to eat and different locations of things. She was very friendly and relaxed. I recommend going to the Kula Kai Caverns first, even if you just take the short tour, it's not far in the cave, so it's not scary at all. It will help you plan the rest of your stay. The guide, Gary, is very informative and likes to talk so don't believe the 1 hour part. There are 3 shopping strips close by 1 with and L & L, which I heard a local say was the better one, a grocery store, which I think is the better of the 2 in the area, a gas station and a small strip mall with a really cute shop that sells local products, plus. On saturday there's a farmers market that sets up behind this section too. The 2nd strip has the cheapest gas on the island, the best breakfast shop, a pizza joint, we thought was the better of the 2, another grocery store and a post office, plus. The 3rd is back around the corner from the 2nd one with and ACE hardware, chiropractor and massage business, a salon, an other pizza place and a convenience store where you can get a coffee, plus. Just 20 minutes away toward Hilo is the Punalu'u Bake Shop and across the way is Hana Hou Restaurant, so good! They have a farmers market and other shopping too. The Black sands and the Green sands Beaches are both nearby, but if you go the Green sands you need a 4 wheel drive unless you want to hike in 3 miles. There were some locals giving ride out and back, but I don't know if they were charging. Have fun! Aloha :) !

Owner's Response: I was delighted to hear that the house, accommodations, and location were pleasing and sufficient to meet your needs. Oh my, no there is not a HDMI hook up on the TV! Although, I am planning to upgrade the TV and I will have to inquire about that. I am truly blessed to meet such wonderful people like Kaisha and her husband. Thank you so much for taking such good care of my little hale (house)! It would be great to see you again! Aloha, Cindy

If you are looking for a quite, restful place, stay here!

  • 5 of 5

We needed deep rest and quiet from our busy lives pastoring a church, being parents and grandparents ,etc. It is so quiet here it takes a little getting used to it from a busy life in Virginia. Lot's of room, a real cottage, nicely decorated like someone actually lives here. No hotel room feeling. Great price and all the amenities ( TV, internet speed is good) except A/C which is generally not needed ( in July when we stayed here) due to the great breeze coming through many windows. Ocean view from 1000'! Lava Tube caves to explore three blocks away ( by a company with guide). In fact, the land here is surrounding with lava of different colors and shapes, making it one of the most unique landscapes I have ever seen anywhere in the world.

Shopping restaurants, gas stations--all close by. People very friendly. One hour to Kona ( very dry and desert-like) and two hours to rain-forest Hilo by car. One hour to Volcano national Park. Three hours to Mauna Kea Observatory. Some extraordinary ocean scenes on side roads (Rt 130/137) going to Hilo and on side-road to Botanical Garden north of Hilo! Don't miss South Point Road. Wonderful views, bracing winds ( with electric generating windmills). Snorkel on Kona side. See tropical Hawaii on Hilo side. We are sort of in the middle so it makes travel to both sides of the island easier and faster.

Cindy, our hostess is very attentive to details and quick to respond. We had no problems to call her about but she kept in touch well. If we come back to Hawaii ( 5000 miles!), we would definitely consider staying here again. This was a special trip of a lifetime for us. We celebrated our 70th birthdays and 48 years of marriage. Had to come to Hawaii at least once before we really got old! :)

Close to it all, yet out of the bustle of town

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were seeking adventure and solitude with our visit to the Big Island. Our stay in this cozy home definitely fit the bill for a rejuvenation vacation. With a reasonable drive in either direction you can enjoy all the island has to offer. The property was beautifully splashed with native flowers and foliage with personal welcoming touches inside as well. We immensely enjoyed the peace of our escape in this lovely little home and watching the sunset over the ocean each night.

Ka Lae also called South Point is the southern most point in the United States. According to historians, the first Hawaiians may have landed near here from the Marquesas as they arrived in their ocean going canoes. Several ancient Hawaiian sites are located nearby.

During the winter months, one of the most spectacular sites from the point is the magnificent humpback whale. The Hawaiian Islands comprise the most significant breeding grounds for humpback whales in the entire North Pacific. What a delightful sight it is to watch them with their young calves. You can enjoy these friendly and energetic creatures display activities like tail slaps, fin waves, and breaching. When a humpback whale breathes, air rushes out of the blowhole at nearly 300 miles per hour and can be seen from a great distance.
