Virginia Beach

If you are looking for a quite, restful place, stay here!

  • 5 of 5

We needed deep rest and quiet from our busy lives pastoring a church, being parents and grandparents ,etc. It is so quiet here it takes a little getting used to it from a busy life in Virginia. Lot's of room, a real cottage, nicely decorated like someone actually lives here. No hotel room feeling. Great price and all the amenities ( TV, internet speed is good) except A/C which is generally not needed ( in July when we stayed here) due to the great breeze coming through many windows. Ocean view from 1000'! Lava Tube caves to explore three blocks away ( by a company with guide). In fact, the land here is surrounding with lava of different colors and shapes, making it one of the most unique landscapes I have ever seen anywhere in the world.

Shopping restaurants, gas stations--all close by. People very friendly. One hour to Kona ( very dry and desert-like) and two hours to rain-forest Hilo by car. One hour to Volcano national Park. Three hours to Mauna Kea Observatory. Some extraordinary ocean scenes on side roads (Rt 130/137) going to Hilo and on side-road to Botanical Garden north of Hilo! Don't miss South Point Road. Wonderful views, bracing winds ( with electric generating windmills). Snorkel on Kona side. See tropical Hawaii on Hilo side. We are sort of in the middle so it makes travel to both sides of the island easier and faster.

Cindy, our hostess is very attentive to details and quick to respond. We had no problems to call her about but she kept in touch well. If we come back to Hawaii ( 5000 miles!), we would definitely consider staying here again. This was a special trip of a lifetime for us. We celebrated our 70th birthdays and 48 years of marriage. Had to come to Hawaii at least once before we really got old! :)

Close to it all, yet out of the bustle of town

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were seeking adventure and solitude with our visit to the Big Island. Our stay in this cozy home definitely fit the bill for a rejuvenation vacation. With a reasonable drive in either direction you can enjoy all the island has to offer. The property was beautifully splashed with native flowers and foliage with personal welcoming touches inside as well. We immensely enjoyed the peace of our escape in this lovely little home and watching the sunset over the ocean each night.

My husband and I were delighted with our stay. The owner supplied the cabin with top quality linens, towels, dishes, pots and pans. We felt right at home. We loved the decor. We also enjoyed the privacy and the quiet area that is a gated community. We are used to driving as we live in the country so for us the location was ideal being very close to the half way point between Hilo and Kona. If you don't mind driving and you like privacy in a picture perfect cabin then this is as good as it gets. We highly recommend this place and would return for another stay in the future. The owners are very easy to work with and very pleasant although we only met the wife. She is a delight.

Starry Nights; Tranquil Days...Solitude

  • 5 of 5

This comfortable and pleasing home met all of our vacation needs. I say "home" because that was exactly how we felt..."at home." The house is well stocked and SPOTLESS! The panoramic ocean view, including the tip of South point (southern most point of the US) was the perfect wake-up scenery. From spectacular sunrises to beautiful sunsets, sliding into magnificent starry nights, we thoroughly enjoyed our peace and solitude!

The location is conveniently situated between the East and West sides of the island. So, driving in either direction allowed for a variety of sight-seeing delights. We played on white sand beaches, watched the turtles at the black sand beach, and hiked into the famous green sand beach. Going east, we ventured into Hilo for the farmer's market and a great lunch. Then onto Volcano National Park, which was right on the path home. Going west, we visited the Hawaiian historical site of Pu`uhonua O Honaunau (City of Refuge). We took in some awesome snorkeling at Kealakekua Bay. Then moved further west into Kona for fun, food and a little shopping.

We even enjoyed a "down day" kicking back at home, candle light dinner, a movie (nice selection), and of course pop corn! I like the hot air popper!

The property is well kept and protected in a gated community. We liked just sitting on the sun porch taking in the ocean view and listening to the palms blowing in the breeze. I still can't get over how quiet it was.

The owners are friendly, kind and attentive. They allow you full privacy to make it your own home in Hawaii! But if you need something, they are a phone call away.

Folks, you can't go wrong here!

Owner's Response: Dear Anonymous, The location is quite unique as guests, like you, are able to enjoy beautiful spots "off the beaten path." We definitely appreciated your feedback and we really would like to add a BBQ area. Hopefully that can happen in the near future. Meanwhile, we will start small and provide a BBQ. The star show at night is magnificent and I am glad that you asked about a telescope. Typically, we do not leave it at the vacation house, but we are willing to have it available to guests. Aloha, Cindy

It couldn't have been better. The house was very comfortable and relaxing, with sweeping views of the Ka'u coastline. Very private and not wanting for anything. Oceanview is only 3 miles away to stock the fridge and a Sat. craft mkt.

The owners are very attentive to the property and guests. New friends.

Ka Lae also called South Point is the southern most point in the United States. According to historians, the first Hawaiians may have landed near here from the Marquesas as they arrived in their ocean going canoes. Several ancient Hawaiian sites are located nearby.

During the winter months, one of the most spectacular sites from the point is the magnificent humpback whale. The Hawaiian Islands comprise the most significant breeding grounds for humpback whales in the entire North Pacific. What a delightful sight it is to watch them with their young calves. You can enjoy these friendly and energetic creatures display activities like tail slaps, fin waves, and breaching. When a humpback whale breathes, air rushes out of the blowhole at nearly 300 miles per hour and can be seen from a great distance.
