Leah Garcia purchased this Bungalow in 2009
Why Leah Garcia chose San Luis Obispo
Cal Poly is Leah's Alma Mater and San Luis Obispo holds a special place in her heart. Ian grew up in Sydney Australia, so the beach and outdoor lifestyle is a perfect fit - not to mention the smell of the Eucalyptus trees! The house is in a quiet neighborhood that is no more than 10 minutes from any part of town or the outdoors. Hiking, mountain biking, restaurants, shopping and the historic mission are a few minutes away. The Paso Robles and Edna Valley wine district start 10 minutes drive from our property. You can access Avila Beach, Montana de Oro, Morro Bay surf beaches and hikes as quickly as you can get in the door at Whole Foods!
What makes this Bungalow unique
Our home is uniquely situated in the Banana Belt of San Luis Obispo, just above the (very rare) frost line, beyond the summer sea fog and sheltered from the occasionally strong afternoon breeze. We had wanted a house here for many years and finally found this perfect location.

Comfortable and cute!
The house was bright and clean. We had a great stay. Quiet neighborhood, easy to walk to campus and to town.
Beauty, Comfort, and Convenience
What a great place Leah and Ian have! We spent the month of March there and enjoyed every minute. The house is very attractive and nicely decorated both inside and out. All appliances are top notch and the kitchen is very well-equipped. The beds are very comfortable and the bedrooms quite soothing and amenable to sleep. There are very clear instructions for the use of everything from the parking permit to the coffee maker, and the best directions we’ve ever seen for the use of the television. Leah and Ian are excellent landlords. They respond instantly to any question or need.
The house is in a very nice neighborhood and convenient to shopping, groceries, hiking, wineries, restaurants, and lots of activities. It is minutes away from US 101. It would be difficult to find a better place to enjoy the central coast.
My husband and brother came to SLO to visit our son for the weekend and they loved the house and said it's our new spot to stay. Thank you for sharing it:)
Great place to stay in SLO
We loved the house and you can tell immediately that the owners have alot of pride in their property. They also have very good attention to details and obviously have strived to make a stay there a very good experience.
Sunny house in SLO near Cal Poly
We two enjoyed three sunny January weeks here and fell in love with this town. This rental is actually the full original house (the owners quietly live in a large extension on the back of the house and are frequently away) consisting of two king bedrooms, both with full bathrooms, and the combined kitchen—livingroom. Up five steps from the driveway is a very private, sunny porch with chairs and the totally windowed front of the house leading into the living room—allowing welcome winter sun for winter-weary Northerners.
The kitchen windows look into a small section of the the private backyard in which there’s a large outdoor table and chairs, nice yard plantings and a small fountain. Also out the kitchen door is a small locked room in which we hung our bicycles, and in which the washer and dryer are located.
Both the kitchen and living room are very clean, tastefully and basically decorated and organized. The kitchen has most of the basics for short term visitors, but is a little sparsely supplied for visitors who want to cook over a longer stay. The owners are very well organized and have small signs throughout the house to help guests keep the house in order. Both Leah and Ian are friendly and non-intrusive.
We found the neighborhood great: it is a mere four blocks to the campus, and a five minute-drive or 10-minute bike ride downtown. Downtown has an amazing number of restaurants, all the upper-crust stores you’d expect in a much larger city, many small local shops, and the best Thursday night farmers’ market around. The whole town turns out for the weekly evening market where the farmers sell their just-picked produce, multiple booths sell hot ribs and to-die-for French crepes, among other offerings. There are two movie houses (latest releases and indie) and a beautiful mission, and everywhere throughout town there are college students. They provide a lovely vibe and are universally polite and friendly.
There are many hiking trails and mountain bike trails very close to town, and the one we most enjoyed is the Bob Jones Trail (5 miles r-trip) that leads riders right into Avila Beach, a small Central California coast beach town: 2 wide, empty beaches (weekdays, busy and lively on winter weekends) backed by a gorgeous plaza of small shops and restaurants. Nearby is also Point Saint-Louis’s lighthouse, a beautiful and surprisingly interesting tour.
We recommend both SLO and Leah and Ian‘s house for a great winter holiday.
What a lovely place to stay!
The bungalow was perfect for our visit to SLO--just the right size, beautifully furnished and equipped, and conveniently located in a quiet residential area near campus. Such a wonderful spot--we will definitely visit again. Thank you Ian and Leah!!
The Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo wine regions start within a 10 minute drive from this property. There are approximately 200 wineries in these regions covering over 30,000 acres of planted vines. The mild winters and warm summers mean that local produce is available year round at one of five local farmers markets. The lively Thursday night farmers market in down town San Luis Obispo is a fixture with locals and tourists like. Surf sports, sailing and boating are an integral part of the central coast lifestyle, adding to the layer back feel of the area. Other popular outdoor sports include mountain biking, road cycling, hiking and trail running. The extensive single track trails are a well kept secret, and afford passionate riders many hours of exploration.
