La Grange @ Le Coulon is a traditional French open hanger barn, converted to a two a storey open plan living area with exposed beams and a wood burner. Comprising 4 bedrooms, 3 spacious doubles upstairs, a single downstairs and 2 bathrooms – a family bathroom and a downstairs wet room. We have a large outside terrace overlooking the garden and pool, where you can sit and enjoy the summer evenings watching the sun go down over the Dordogne countryside with a glass of local French wine.

About Juliet McLauchlan

We are Juliet and Grant and we came to France in 2012 to look for a property to renovate and discovered the picturesque village of Jumilhac Le Grand in the peaceful north of the Dordogne. We found a property with stunning views and as they say the rest is history! We moved to France in 2014 with our dog to renovate two barns and start a small business renting a gite. Grant is a carpenter and has worked in Europe for over 20 years, he is originally from Scotland and I was an HR Manger and I am originally from Bath in the west country. We both lived in Spain for 5 years which is where we met.

Having completed the renovation on the barn in May 2016 we are now able to offer it as a gite.

Why Juliet McLauchlan chose Jumilhac-le-Grand

La Grange @ Le Coulon is situated in a small hamlet 3 minutes drive from the village of Jumilhac Le Grand with its picturesque fairy tale chateau, we are in the north of the Dordogne with lush country side surrounding us. We fell in love with this property mainly because of the great views. The location is excellent as you are close to the village which has a Post Office, restaurant, bars, shop, butchers, chemist, 2 bakeries, hair dressers etc. and less than 10 minutes from St Yrieix La Perche. A small town which offers all the local amenities you would expect, local markets, supermarkets, shops, restaurants, hospital etc.

There are so may places to visit from small villages and towns to cities such as Limoges and Perigueux which have wonderful cathedrals and fascinating architecture, as well as lots of restaurants where you can try many local dishes. Many towns have regular markets with local produce.

What makes this barn unique

Outside our Barn conversion has a large raised terrace, (30 sq m) with fantastic views, with a dining area offering a table and chairs and sun shade for up to 8 people, also a barbeque. The solar heated pool is new this year, there are also sunbeds and we provide towels for the pool.

The Interior of the barn has a contemporary feel, but still has exposed beams and handmade wood doors which gives it a rustic feel. We have a level entry to the downstairs living area which is open plan with 3 settees in the lounge area, 2 side tables a wood burner as well a TV and DVD player. The dining area has a square table which seats 8. The kitchen has an electric oven and gas hob, there is microwave, dishwasher, fridge freezer, toaster, coffee maker and cutlery and crockery pots and pans etc. we provide Tea Towels.

There is a single bedroom and a wet room on this level. We have attachable support handles for the wet room and a shower stool should they be required.

The entrance hall has a galleried landing leading to 3 double bedrooms and a bathroom, there are wardrobes in all the upstairs bedrooms as well as draws.

We provide bed linen and duvets. All pillows are anti allergy. We also provide bath sheets, bath, hand and pool towels.

Fictional books and DVD's are also available to borrow.

Dogs are welcome to come and stay, but our garden is not enclosed, so dogs will have to walked on a lead. Although the terrace is enclosed with a fence and gate.

If you should wish to bring your bicycles with you we can offer you somewhere secure to store them, or alternatively bikes can be hired locally.

We feel that the barn is suitable for couples and families (unfortunately we do not provide furniture for babies and very young children). We can accommodate someone who has mobility issues as we have a level entrance to the ground floor and the terrace as well as a downstairs wet room and bedroom.

We live on site so we will be here to welcome you and answer any questions you have.

High quality accommodation and a good base to explore from

We had a very peaceful couple of weeks staying at The Grange @ Le Coulon. The Grange has a very well equipped kitchen and dining facilities and a spacious veranda, and the whole gite has been finished to a very high standard. The pool was cleaned daily by the hosts who were close-by and were very welcoming. The surrounding area is delightful and rural, with plenty of markets in the villages and towns, and Jumilhac Le Grande makes a good base to explore the surrounding area. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Lovely property in a beautiful location

Juilet and Grant made us feel at home straight away. Nothing was too much trouble. There was a welcome pack and they were on hand if we needed anything. Beautiful views in a quiet location with loads of intersting medival villages to explore.The plunge pool was very welcoming. Would definitely book again.

Would definately recommend!

We had a great week at La Grange @ Le Coulon with our 3 teenage daughters and our dog. The gite is newly renovated to a high standard and was very clean, spacious and comfortable with a large open plan living, dining and kitchen area that opens out onto a large terrace overlooking the pool and countryside view. It was a great place to relax as well as having lots to do within a short driving distance.

We will definately recommend to others!

Brand new Very clean Gite. Felt like home.

The Gite has been refurbished to a very high standard. Lovely and clean,very thoughtful host who provide the basics, washing up liquid, dishwashing tablets, toilet cleaner etc. Beach towels were kindly provide for sunbathing and using in the pool.

The pool was fun and very refreshing after a hot day of visiting the amazing scenery, castles and days of exploring the Dordogne region.

Lovely property in a great location for a fab family holiday!

The four of us had a great week staying at Le Grange and were made very welcome by the owners. The property is newly converted, very clean, comfortable and well presented. Downstairs, there is a well equipped kitchen and dining area (though the weather was so good that we ate out on the terrace 90% of the time) and the TV / lounge area had three large, comfortable sofas that would easily sit seven adults. The downstairs wet room was a great feature, allowing us to nip in from the pool and shower. The kids loved splashing around in the pool.

Each of the three bedrooms upstairs (there was a fourth good sized bedroom downstairs which we didn't use) were large and had very comfortable beds, with shaded Velux windows, which kept the rooms cool, though fans were needed on some nights due to the hot weather! The bathroom had a good size shower and bath.

Le Grange is well situated, around 2km Jumilhac le Grand, a quiet village with its impressive chateau (we had a good evening meal at Lou Boueiradour) and about 10km from Saint-Yrieix-La-Perche, a market town which has the closest supermarkets and a decent range of shops, cafes and restaurants (Chez Lorenzo Pizzeria is recommended). Limoges is about an hour away and it took around seven hours to drive down from Calais.

We spent a couple of days just relaxing at Le Grange but we found lots to do without much travel - we canoed and rode the velo-rail at Corgnac-Sur-L'Isle and hired bikes at Chalus to cycle along a former railway line - about 22km in total. We also went down to Perigueux (one of the regions largest towns) and visited the impressive Roman museum, with its excavated villa. Evenings were spent chatting with a glass of wine on the terrace.

We had a lovely holiday and the high quality of the accommodation and the quiet, countryside location offered by Le Grange was the cornerstone of this. We'd happily recommend Le Grange to family and friends and would return in the future. Thanks for a great holiday!

Fantastic barn conversion in a lovely rural location.

We stayed at La Grange at the end of July 2016 and enjoyed a lovely relaxing break. The barn has been lovingly converted with a great deal of care and attention to detail. It is very comfortable and well equipped.

We enjoyed sitting out on the sunny terrace overlooking a lovely view of the fields and landscape beyond.

The swimming pool is a great way to cool off after a day's sightseeing.

The owners, Juliet and Grant, were very welcoming and helpful. They gave us plenty of suggestions for places to visit and things to do. They even helped us to book an appointment with the local vet for our dog's passport check before the trip home.

La Grange is situated just outside the village of Jumilhac Le Grand with its beautiful chateau. There's a good restaurant, local shop, butcher and baker.

It's a great base to explore the Dordogne region.

We were honoured to be the first visitors to La Grange, wholeheartedly recommend it and hope other visitors enjoy it as much as us.

Airports: Limoges Airport is a 50 mins drive away from La Grange, Bergerac Airport, 90 mins and Bordeaux Airport, 2.5 hours. To get the most from your stay we recommend a car, hire facilities are available at all airports.

The property is part of a small rural hamlet, within 30 minute walking distance of the picturesque village of Jumilhac Le Grand with its fairy tale 13th Century Château, Post Office, restaurant, bars, shop, butchers, chemist, 2 bakeries, hair dressers etc. There is also a Sunday market during July and August.

There are well marked trails around the village and Château. The River Isle flows through the valley surrounded by woodland and is a great place to admire the local flora and fauna. There is a helpful tourist office which can advise you of many things to do in the area,

There is a municipal outdoor swimming pool (open July and August) and tennis courts (open all year) 3 mins drive down the road.

St Yrieix la Perche has 2 hypermarkets and several large supermarkets stocking everything you might want to make your holiday enjoyable. It has a quaint old quarter and is a typical French town. There is a Market every second and fourth Friday of the month. Every Thursday evening during July and August is the ‘Marche Nocturne’, where you can sit and dine, enjoying local produce being prepared for your evening meal and live music. If you want to enjoy the local cuisine there are many good restaurants to choose from. In July and August, St Yrieix hosts a classical music festival.

The surrounding area offers fishing, canoeing, walking, cycling, horse riding, golf, swimming, gold panning and tennis. There are beautiful villages and towns to visit such as St Jean de Cole, one of the 'plus beaux villages' in France and Segur le Chateau, another ‘beau village de France’ which has a night market once a week in July and August. Also Brantome, known as the Venice of Perigord Vert has a weekly market. There are many fascinating Châteaux to visit and explore. Visit the historic caves at Grottes de Villars with ancient cave art and at Lascaux. At Arnac Pompadour you can see the French National Stud stables and a beautiful chateau, where horse racing takes place throughout the summer.

For longer days out, there is Perigueux a beautiful Roman and Moorish town which has a weekly market and also there are the attractions of the River Dordogne which are about 90 minutes away with Sarlat and Domme and other places to visit.

There is no deposit to pay for cleaning, tenants are asked to leave the property in a clean and tidy state. If the property is not left in the same clean & tidy state as on arrival, you will be invoiced for a cleaning charge of up to £75 or £200 if smoking has taken place inside the Barn and therefore requires deep cleaning and this will be deducted from the security deposit.
The tenant agrees to keep the property and all fittings, furniture equipment and other contents in or on the property in a like state of repair and condition as at the commencement of the letting and will make good (or will arrange with us to make good) any damage, breakage, or loss that may occur during the period of letting.
If you cancel once full payment has been made, provided we can re-let the accommodation, you will be refunded the re-lettable value. We would strongly recommend that you take out Travel Insurance to cover any cancellation costs.
In the event of the property becoming uninhabitable prior to the letting period, resulting in cancellation of your booking by us, our liability will be limited to a refund of all monies paid by you.
Please ensure that you have travel insurance in place when booking in case of illness.
The owners of the property accept no liability to any member of a holiday booking for:
