Barão I - 4-bedroom apartment close to Sé Cathedral and walking distance sightseeing
This quiet 4-bedroom apartment is perfect for a family or group of friends. Ideal for sightseeing on foot, it’s located in a quiet street about 3 minutes from Sé Cathedral. Part of an elegantly austere 'Pombaline' building, similar in style to most buildings in the adjacent streets, the interior is charming and comfortable. Its walking proximity to excellent sightseeing spots makes it one of the most sought-after apartments in the Alfama.
In addition to monuments and places of enormous historical interest, such as Sé Cathedral or São Jorge Castle, this area is home to numerous antique shops, grocery stores, art galleries, restaurants and typical taverns, where you can have dinner listening to the melancholic sounds of Fado. Two viewpoints with breathtaking views over the Tagus are also nearby.
The apartment’s interiors are elegantly understated. Colors tend to be neutral, with some exceptions in the bedrooms, which include comfortable beds and white curtains on tall, narrow windows. The apartment has 4 bedrooms, one of them without windows. The dining room is furnished with a table for 8 and the smart living room boasts an original wall clock made of colored glass. The kitchen is fully equipped and there are 2 bathrooms.

Next to the apartment is one of Lisbon’s jewels: the impressive and beautifully preserved Sé Cathedral, a symbol of the Christian victory over the the Muslims - who occupied Lisbon, and most of southern Portugal, from the 8th to the 12th century.
Walking along the quiet streets behind Sé Cathedral, you’ll come across white-washed houses, stone fountains and lovely little squares where the locals chat and restaurants serve their good-value-for-money menus. This is the 'real' Alfama, a fascinating quarter which starts on the Lisbon hillsides and stretches down to the riverfront.

The tram starts in Graça and ends in Campo de Ourique (a journey of around 40 minutes). On the way, you’ll see churches, ancient manors, old-time cafés, funky shops, the Palácio de S. Bento and Estrela Cathedral - don’t forget to visit its rooftop for a perfect bird’s eye view of the city.
The apartment is within walking distance of Saint Anthony’s church (1 min) - a site of pilgrimage for many Lisbon visitors -, downtown Lisbon with its bustling commerce and elegant architecture as well as the grandiose Praça do Comércio (6 min). The trendy Cais do Sodré area (about 25 min on foot) includes the famous Ribeira Market and great nightlife.

Chiado, the aristocratic quarter at the top of the hill has lots to see including the modern art museum and the São Carlos Opera. Of course, you’ll also have to explore Belém - the museum quarter.
