Mole's Cottage with it's full ocean views, is next door to The Cottage At Muir Beach separated by it's enchanting private succulent gardens. Both cottages are private residences but are also close enough to accommodate friends and family members who want their own space but enjoy vacationing together.
Mole's Cottage is owned and operated by locally renowned interior designer Victoria Hamilton-Rivers. This is a beautifully decorated property that accommodates 3 people: living room with ocean views and dining, 1 queen master bedroom with garden and partial ocean views, 1 twin bedroom with beach and ocean views, fully equipped kitchen which looks out on to the succulent gardens, bathroom with shower, laundry and closet room.
Spectacular succulent gardens surround Mole's Cottage making it the ideal honeymoon or ocean retreat destination for that much needed rest and relaxation that we all yearn for.
Muir Beach is within easy walking distance from Mole's Cottage - you can hear the sound of the waves from the property and it's set in the spectacular surroundings of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area where the views and local hikes are some of the most stunning in the world.
The property has it's own private off street parking for two cars and is within easy driving distance to Muir Woods, Mill Valley and other parts of Marin County, Stinson Beach and San Francisco.
Mole's Cottage is an extremely special place for those seeking to be close to nature and the ocean but within easy reach of city life.
Originally British (recently an American Citizen!) I have been living in the San Francisco Bay Area as a permanent resident here since 2003. I am an Interior Designer and Home Stager by profession and have lived in Muir Beach since 2008. I believe this place to be among very few left in the world that are as unspoiled so close to nature and a major metropolis such as San Francisco. I find it deeply inspiring to call Muir Beach and it's wonderful community my home.
As the daughter of a British Army Officer, initially I travelled extensively to other parts of the world following my father's career and then subsequently my own. I fell in love with the San Francisco Bay Area when I first visited here in 1997 and I was captivated by the beauty of Muir Beach particularly, fairly early on in my visits to San Francisco from London.
I bought two cottages in Muir Beach in 2008: The Cottage At Muir Beach and Mole's Cottage named after my dearly beloved Labrador companion of 15 years and the characters in a book I grew up with entitled 'The Wind In The Willows.' Mole was a leading character in the novel by Kenneth Graham - always up to mischief and adventures on the river bank with friends.
Since launching The Cottage At Muir Beach in 2009, I have delighted in sharing this little slice of heaven with my guests from all over the world. It is an exceptional privilege to find this place and I hope by now offering Mole's Cottage as an adjacent property, that I will be able fulfill on the many requests I've received over the years from guests who have stayed, to broadly expand the accommodation I offer.
I have taken several years to develop beautiful succulent gardens at Mole's Cottage and lovingly renovated it's simple structure with imaginative ocean-inspired decorating that I trust will inspire.

Charm and close to everything that inspires us all, is the only way to describe this place!
Hiking, beach combing and designing interiors inspired by nature.
We stayed both at Mole Cottage and Cottage at Muir Beach during our stay. Mole Cottage was our favorite because it fit the "romantic hideaway" that we were looking for. The Cottage would be more suited to a family with a small child. But it's lovely, too.
The grounds were as beautiful as the inside of the house. We were disappointed that because of the rain we did not get a chance to enjoy the outdoor areas.
I will be back. The location is close to all the Marin coast places of interest. My only request is for a blind on the front door. Thank you very much.
I can't say enough good things about our stay at Moles Cottage!! I came to San Francisco to visit my son who moved there a year ago....I miss him so much. I wanted a place that we could cook a Thanksgiving dinner and a beach that allowed fires. A beach fire, OMG just the best. The cottage was something out of a magazine!!! The kitchen had all the dishes we needed for the Thanksgiving meal, the beach was a short & beautiful walk just down the hill. Morning coffee sitting outside in the amazing patio's watching the fog lift and the view come alive was so good for my soul. I want to come back and stay for months. We also drove over and hiked in Muir woods!!! This was the perfect location and perfect cottage. Thanks so much for all you have done with this cottage & all of your hospitality.
A poet once wrote :
"It is easy to come, it is easy to stay
For a week or a fortnight, or even a day
But wherever I've wandered , I surely believe
I have n'er found a place
that was harder to leave"
On a recent trip to San Francisco to speak at a federal judicial conference my wife and I decided to take a few additional days to hike Muir Woods and luckily stumbled uponn nearby Mole Cottage at Muir Beach . It is truly enchanting !
The decor makes you feel as though you had stepped into an issue of Architectural Digest and the views of the Ocean from your living room's picture window appear to be right out of National Geographic magazine . It is extremely private nestled on top of a bluff directly overlooking the ocean, quiet and secluded yet only fifteen minutes once you cross the Golden Gate Bridge .While staying there we had a terrific dinner (highly recommend the beef wellington) at the nearby Pellican Inn.... an authentic 18th century English Pub that was apparently dismantled, shipped across "the pond" a few decades ago and resurrected in nearby Mill Valley...but back to Mole Cottage itself.... The cottage's owner, Victoria, is extremely gracious and accomodating. I just can't say enough nice things about this place and very much plan to return on future trips to San Francisco I would rate it Five PLUS stars!
We stayed at Mole's Cottage with our 3.5-year-old daughter this past summer. It was absolutely lovely! The cottage is darling, with comfortable furnishings and a beachy, airy feel. Our daughter loved "her room" - this was the first time that she stayed in a separate room while we were traveling, and she was quite comfortable.
There is a lot of outdoor space for sitting and relaxing, and for dining. The view is wonderful, and it's just a short walk down to the beach. (The driveway is very steep, as is the walk down to the beach.)
There is a Whole Foods in the next town...we stopped there on the way in and stocked up for our stay. We drove to Bolinas one day and had our fill of oysters at Coast Cafe - delicious! And, of course, we could not stay here without going to Muir Woods. It is a truly beautiful part of the United States, and Mole's Cottage is the perfect landing spot while you are there. Would definitely stay again...
Peaceful, Tranquil and Pristine - those are the three words I would use to describe Moles Cottage. The cottage was absolutely one of the cleanest vacation rentals we have had both here in the states and abroad. The attention to detail both inside the cottage and on the grounds were impeccable - kudos to Victoria and her keen sense of style. Watching the sunrise from here was just awesome. There are views from every room. We didn't want to leave!
Mole's Cottage and it's enchanting private succulent gardens, has full ocean views within close walking distance of Muir Beach. Muir Beach and the surrounding areas are part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area also encompassing Muir Woods National Monument. This area is known for it's un spoiled natural beauty and spectacular views. Among local attractions are Muir Beach (Big and Little beaches) Muir Woods and the Muir Beach Overlook with uninterrupted 180 degree views across the Pacific. The Zen Center, Slide Ranch, Stinson Beach, Point Reyes and San Francisco are all within easy driving distance.
