so well located for walkers, so nice to come home to

Outside: It's true what they say, you can walk from here to almost everywhere in Merida that you would want to visit. Both south to the Plaza Grande

and Plaza Sta Lucia (where we had a fantastic dinner at Apoala), and north to Paseo Mondejo where you can take a great stroll.

Inside: high ceilings, ceiling fans, my wife's dream kitchen, a hammock out back along with a pool to cool off in. Even though it gets very warm (32C) we would never think of turning on the AC because the house has a cool, open feeling.

We were so busy doing excursions, I left feeling that i hadn't spent enough time in the house and backyard as i would have liked.

LeAnn and Carlos were very responsive to our requests.

Great location, well-appointed and maintained.

  • 5 of 5

In January 2017 my husband and I will be returning to Casa Buho for the third time. We are grateful to have found such a conveniently located, beautifully appointed and well-maintained home away from home. The overview, photos and captions, and the previous two

reviews, are all accurate and offer much useful information; so we offer only a few additional comments: The street is indeed quiet, by Merida Centro standards, which we appreciate. The location is ideal, as we find we are able to walk to most destinations of interest and can take a short, affordable cab ride to the few that are further afield. The house offers a comprehensive Welcome Book and another binder with information about attractions in and around Merida. Options for dining out within walking distance are many and varied; however we often choose to prepare meals in the well-equipped kitchen. We purchase produce at Santa Ana market, a short walk away, and dry goods at Walmart, to which we walk - but we do take a cab home. The Mercado Organico, on Saturdays, a short cab ride away, is a great place to purchase luxury food items and meet up with other visitors and expats. Paseo Montejo, just around the corner, offers many amenities and delights, including a lovely gym we join for our stay and a dance studio where we take lessons. We have been able to welcome house guests and offer them comfortable, private accommodation. Casa Buho is also ideal for entertaining and we have hosted several gatherings there. We give Casa Buho our highest recommendation.

Wonderful house to stay in and explore Merida

  • 5 of 5

We were in town for an extended project and rented the house which has been recently renovated. The house has all modern appliances including heavy duty washer and dryer, an excellent range, and a fridge with water that hooks up to water bottles for water and ice. It has a large entry way with a family room for watching TV and a nice place to set up a lap top for work with even a printer. Wireless internet was fast. There is a nice deck to sit out for dinner at night as well as a small pool that is great to cool of in . It is roughly half way between the two zones of the square around the Cathedral and the Paseo Montjoy. It served very well for our group of 3 to 4 who were there as we needed to be on call for a nearby project. The company managing the property is very efficient and usually responds quickly. The house even has a maid and a gardener who come once a week! It is just far enough from the main square that there are lots of nearby restaurants that have a more local feel (Oliva's, La Negritas Cantina, etc). Supermarkets are a bit of a ways but taxis are cheap and plentiful - I paid as low as $20 to come from the Soriana's downtown and about $50 from Walmart at the end of the Paseo. If I get an opportunity to come back I will definitely be looking to see if this casa is available.

Great location, wonderful city

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed her several times with kids and with just my wife, and enjoyed every one. The house is very comfortable and well appointed and has hammocks to boot for kids and adults whose backs allow! There is a nice plunge pool and a great covered porch to hang out in back. The area around the house has several great restaurants for every taste and price range and you are very close to Santa Ana and the main square downtown.
