Why Janet and Rich Cocchiaro chose Holderness
We built this house to provide a space for our extended family to gather and for our growing children to share with their friends. The children have grown and moved away but still return regularly with their friends for reunion weekends. We love to share this beautiful natural space with all who visit us here.

Wonderful setting for large family vacation!
The House In the Pines was fabulous! Great for our large family, with plenty of group space and plenty of "alone" space. The kitchen was well appointed; Janet and Rich welcomed us with open arms. The setting is beautiful; we especially enjoyed the screened in porch with views of the lake. Our adult children loved the dock and swim platform, as well as the basketball net and canoe/kayak. We recommend this to any families looking for a comfortable "home away from home".
A Week at Camelot
The House in the Pines was absolutely magnificent!! The setting on the pond is so serene and peaceful. We so enjoyed canoeing, swimming, picking wild berries. The owners were outstanding; they went out of their way to ensure we had a fabulous time. The home is extremely spacious and with three families, everyone had more than enough space for both comfort and privacy. The week spent here felt like a dream. Thank you Janet and Rich for your wonderful hospitality. You helped make a very memorable vacation for my entire family!
Wonderful house very private setting
One of the prettiest settings I've rented through VRBO. The pictures do no justice to this wonderful home! We had 4 couples and 3 kids and there was more than enough room. House is much larger than it appears in photos. Very secluded setting with great views of very tranquil White Oak Pond. Canoe and kayak by the dock, Adirondack chairs on the giant rock next to the lake with the loons and bullfrogs serenading us. Downstairs bedrooms are on each end of the house so everyone not on top of each other. Plenty of boardgames and books. Close to everything n Holderness as well as Merideth. Owners could not have been nicer or more accommodating. We had a WiFi problem and Janet came right over and fixed it, they're replacing the modem this week so that won't be an issue anymore. Thanks for a great stay Janet and Rich!
Plenty of room in a quiet setting
This is a perfect house for large family gatherings with plenty of room to play, eat and sleep. Big and bright, nice and clean, and reasonably priced for the size. The kitchen is large and well stocked with a view from the sink. We were able to get everyone including kids at the same table for dinner which was so important to us, as we are only able to gather yearly.
Everyone had a quiet bedroom to go to when they'd had enough family. Janet met us when we arrived and made sure all was well. Our favorite breakfast was at Dot's Bread and Butter in Ashland, again a table for thirteen was provided by the fireplace on our wintry weekday morning. There's a short hike all of us were able to do, Rattlesnake, with a very satisfying view.We even saw maple sugaring and two giant pigs!
Winter in The Pines
My family just spent a wonderful month at the House in the Pines. Janet and Rich were wonderful hosts and made sure our stay was perfect. The house is huge and has plenty of space for adults and kids of all ages. The location allowed for easy day trips to Loon Mountain, Waterville Valley and Gunstock, all about 30 min away. The house was beautifully furnished and have everything we needed for our month long stay. I would highly reccomend renting this property. We hope to make it back soon!
A Wonderful Wedding Weekend Setting
We were married at the House in the Pines in September 2016. Our children and grandchildren gathered around as we exchanged our vows just before sunset on the dock that extends into the calm waters of White Oak Pond. The setting was quiet and magical.
All 13 of us (some who had never met!) spent a long weekend enjoying each other's company. The house was the perfect place for that to happen. We were all able to gather around the large dining room table to share meals. The owners even brought a kiddie table and chairs for the little ones in our group. We spent a lot of time hanging out in the well-appointed kitchen, which was supplied with everything we needed and looked out over the pond. A large deck and a separate screened in porch adjoin the kitchen and, since the weather was warm, both got a lot of use.
Everyone had complete privacy in their separate bed and bathrooms, all of which were large, clean and comfortable. On Saturday afternoon, after dips in the pond and lounging in the sun, we gathered in the lower level family room for a pool tournament.
Saturday night the owners put on a pizza party for us, using the wood-fired pizza oven in the kitchen. Everyone had the opportunity to put on a chef's hat and make their own pizzas. If you have never eaten your own pizza, cooked in a genuine Italian wood-fired oven, you have to do this!
White Oak Pond is a hidden NH treasure and there is no better place to enjoy it than the House in the Pines. We would give it 6 stars if we could!
