I am a civil engineer working overseas. I have built this villa with the intention of retiring in my beautiful country. As a nature lover, I have planted lush tropical plants to balance out the ocean immensity. As an amateur chef, I decided to build the kitchen right in front of the ocean and have french windows in order to enjoy the horizon.
The Owner purchased this villa in 2007
Every time I come down to this villa, I disconnect from my daily routine and let the sea breeze and the sea waves envelop me. This property is very private, secure, tranquil and comfortable. When I gave my architect the mandate to build the house I specified the requirement to be able to have an ocean view from every room. The innkeepers are experienced with guests from overseas and will do the necessary to satisfy your needs. If you desire to entertain friends, a bar has been added to the living room for beverages and appetizers to be served. Hamacs are provided to enjoy a siesta o indulge in your favorite books.
Our family had a wonderful time at this beautiful ocean front property. We loved the constant sound and views of the ocean, and that the village of La Boquita was only a few minute walk away. The house was spacious, clean, and accommodating for the 4 of us--2 adults and 2 teenagers. This was our first time in Nicaragua, and the transition was made smooth and easy thanks to Maria's and Hercies' assistance. From helping us figure out the local buses to helping us find fresh fish and groceries, we are very thankful for Maria and Hercies patience and presence. We would certainly stay there again if we're ever fortunate enough to return.
Ah, La Boquita..
I had to review as our experience was so different than the other reviews here..
My brother and his family, myself and my daughter, came to Kanata for some deserved relaxation, catching up and adventuring a new country. Nicaragua is a beautiful, totally worth - it place to see. People are amazing, so safe, and diverse experiences abound. The weather was perfect and hot every day, however meant there was a shortage of water throughout the country as well. Although we were gone for 8 days, the home nearly ran out of water twice and we had to conserve water greatly for the majority of the month. Despite this, the housekeeper would water the gardens often at 5:30-6:00am, waking us up with no regard. If she didn't water that day, it was sweeping the tile floors at the same time in the morning, right in front of the bedrooms. The housekeepers often had people over, at first no big deal, however when it's daily and in your space you were supposed to have rented...it became uncomfortable and made us feel like we had roommates. It also felt like we had supervisors that were judging if we had a drink in the afternoon-weird feeling.
Toby, the dog...at first friendly, shortly annoying. Bit our children (not severely but broke skin) twice and peed on the floor, no attempt from the housekeepers to keep him away from our areas. Meanwhile we maintained politeness with them and asked Hersey if he could purchase some lobsters and prawns for us, as that was the word that he didn't mind doing this for visitors. We tipped him for this, all seemed well, however he complained to the owner after we left that we did not tip..?
Despite what the ad says, there was no attempt for laundry to be done for us, we hand-washed 7 ppl worth of laundry. We felt like had it been offered, we would have gladly accepted the help and then paid for the service, however there was no offer.
The oven doesn't work and the house is a sauna with no air conditioning or air flow. If you bring children beware, as they kept our damage deposit for a few missing pieces of a Walmart chessboard, and two cheap cups that fell onto the tile floor.
The beach and town are incredible here, and Kanata is beautiful, however I feel there are better places to stay in this area if you don't want roommates and want your deposit back.
We had an amazing time in La Boquita, and in the rest of the country, and hope yours is as well.
Kanata was an excellent choice for our vacation. The property is beautiful and well kept. It provides the most amazing views during the day and the sound of the ocean waves crashing against the rocks will help you relax and have a wonderful sleep at night. Our kids loved the natural salt water pools to swim and for the many fish, crabs and other sea creatures.
The in-house care takers (Maria and Hersis) are friendly and trustworthy and tried their best to insure our stay was as comfortable as possible.
The owner (Alberto) was very professional and accomodating. He responded to all of my questions promptly.
We have just returned from a one month vacation at the beautiful villa Kanata in La Boquita. The accomodations were beyond out expectations, the owner Alberto can be commended on his design and the thought put into the layout and amenities in the villa. Anything and everything needed was provided in the well appointed kitchen, as well as all of the necessary linens and towels etc.
The open concept of the villa provides for beautiful views of the ocean and the village of La Boquita. I already miss the stunning sunsets and the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks, enjoyed daily while relaxing in the hammocks or rocking chairs.
It was also much appreciated to be met at the airport by Maria and Alberto's mama who not only led us to the villa, but helped us with out initial grocery shopping. That was a nice touch, and both were very gracious and helpful. During the booking process and afterward, all of our questions were answered promptly which was also appreciated as this was our first vacation booking through VRBO.
I cannot say enough about the wonderful in-house caretakers Maria and Hersis. The would do anything and everything possible to ensure your stay was perfect, always in a most discreet manner. Maria's cooking was amazing and we enjoyed many traditional dinners, and although our Spanish is limited, we always managed to ensure that we had the necessary ingredients. On a number of occasions, Hersis went into town in the very early morning to negotiate the purchase of fresh fish for dinner -- which was excellently prepared by Maria. And as busy as Maria always was taking meticulous care of the villa, our laundry was always miraculously attended to. They were a very enjoyable part of our vacation!
We visited many beautiful sights in Nicaragua, spending time in Granada, San Juan Del Sur, Masaya, Leon, Matagulpa, and Caterina to name a few -- all highly recommended. As this location is somewhat remote, I would recommend a car or driver. All in all we had a wonderful vacation at Kanata and I would not hesitate to return to this lovely ocean front villa. We look forward to visiting Nicaragua and perhaps La Boquita again in the future.
First of all, I would like to thank Mr. Quiñonez for openning and sharing his villa - Casa Kanata with us.
Mr. Quiñonez, the owner has a wonderful family as caretakers who are constantly asking if there is anything that they can help with or do for us. They are very friendly and trustworthy. Esmir and Maria were barely noticeable during all of our stay because they are very discreet and quiet.
Casa Kanata has an amazing ocean view where you can see the local town of La Boquita. The house is fully equipped from the bedrooms all the way to the kitchen and bathrooms.
The house has a main bedroom with a beautiful private bathrrom and a baywindow where you can see the endless ocean and feel the ocean breeze. The extended front facing veranda welcomes you with rocking chairs and a few steps up is an open living area where Esmir hung hammocks which made it more relaxing.
Casa Kanata makes an esplendid option for a vacation home.
A grocery store for basic necessities is located half a mile from the villa. The innkeepers could provide babysitting and do the laundry if required.
