Disappointing

The location and the cabin itself are both fantastic. It's true that it would be ideal for a larger group. The issues we had seemed to relate to poor preparation for our arrival.

I admit that we arrived just 3 weeks after the fires hit the area. However, we made sure to check and asked several times if the cabin would be ready. We were told the cabin was undamaged and everything was in working order. So instead of utilizing our travel insurance we made the 8 hour drive. And we regretted it as soon as we arrived.

First, the cabin was filthy. The floors were so dirty our shoes stuck to them. We had to wash every pan we used to remove the stuck on food chunks. One of the upstairs beds was not made and their was urine splattered on the toilet lid. It didn't stop there.

The cabin was infested with dying lady bugs and something else that left droppings inside the upstairs mattress. The lady bugs fell and crawled on us as we tried to sleep. We couldn't even use the upstairs it was so bad.

Finally, the water smelled so bad (sulfur) we couldn't take showers without holding our breath.

I spoke with the owner and her solution was to send over the cleaning lady. So she arrived from down the mountain a few minutes later. I tried showing her the problems but she stopped me before I could even start. She already knew about the issues. And there's nothing she can do. She did let me know I should be glad I wasn't at the cabin down the street. The smell of sulfur is much worse over there. Lovely.

So I spoke with the owner again. She found out a work crew had come in AFTER the cleaning crew. That's why the floors were dirty and someone had used the upstairs bathroom. Why was that our problem? We paid a $325 cleaning fee and left the cabin cleaner than how we found it.

Bottom line: I think you can find better for the same or even less money.

Overall, the cabin is excellent.

  • 4 of 5

The house is perfect for a large gathering. Sleeping arrangements were very convenient. The kitchen was well supplied with dinnerware, silverware and cooking ware that accommodated our large group. We used the porch a lot as the view is BEAUTIFUL. Had some plumbing issues which hopefully will be addressed by the owners. I would suggest that the hill on the side of the driveway be planted with "something green" as it is very visible. I would definitely recommend this cabin. We had a wonderful time there.

Outstanding cabin!

  • 5 of 5

What a great place to vacation! The views were outstanding of the mountain and hills and they could be seen through almost every window in the place! We had 25 people and it was so big that we weren't stepping on one another! The TV room and entertainment area with pool table and video game was great fun for all the kids and adults. The hot tub was used most everyday. Even though we were in the mountains it didn't take long to get to any of the attractions we wanted to see. Outstanding week!

Amazing place. Lots of space. We had 19 people including 3 great grands ages 1, 2 and 3.

  • 4 of 5

We were wowed with overall appearance. Beautifully laid-out and spacious. Decks were perfect for seeing the beautiful view. Large master (honeymoon) suite with sitting area overlooking deck and view. Bathroom had 2 separate sinks, jacuzzi tub, separate commode area plus a closet. Plenty of space to hang out in theater room, game room, extra kitchen, wi-fi area, + 2 large seating areas in living room. Plenty of bathrooms. Kitchen was awesome and well-equipped. 2 large eating areas will seat about 30. A black bear walked right outside the kitchen window and surprised us all. The only downside was that the sleeper sofas in lower level need to be replaced according to 2 college student gandsons. We had a wonderful, fantastic time.

Wonderful Stay

  • 5 of 5

Staying in the LeConte View Lodge was a complete pleasure for my family. The cabin was spotless, beautiful, and the mountain views were exactly as described. The posted pictures are accurate. Every morning we drank coffee on the deck and drank in the view. Two Mr Coffee Machines kept us all happy. The kitchenette in the basement also had another refrigerator. The LeConte view Lodge had a fully equipped kitchen so do not bring your slow cooker or bottle opener. The owners provide towels but you will want to bring your own beach towels for the hot tub and other adventures. My family was happy that they could spread out and not feel crowded, as the bedrooms were on different levels and all had good bathroom access. My mother came with us and was pleased that she had the suite on the main level due to it's size, loveliness and "no stairs." She was not able to take advantage of the jacuzzi or the hot tub on the deck, but she loved everything all the same. The air conditioning worked fine. The arcade game did have an issue. One of the controller sticks during play. Repairmen who arrived unexpectedly one day tried to repair it but my grandson said later that it was still sticking. The media room furniture is showing wear and tear as one reviewer mentioned, but these things are very minor when considering everything this cabin had to offer. The attractions in the area were convenient to our location and we spent a lot of time in Gatlinburg and the Park. The kids loved Dollywood, splashing in the creek at Metcalf Bottom., and the basement retreat. The cabin is on a mountain so the first climb up and then down in your car is a gasp. In one day you will be used to it and already planning your next rental with this company.

Not what it was advertised as!

  • 3 of 5

Yes, without a doubt the house is nice, but, with some major issues. We arrived in the early afternoon to find the house quite warm. We tried to adjust the A/C, but, the system could not produce the cool air needed to keep the house cool at a comfortable temperature. This was not a huge problem, there are ceiling fans in all of the rooms, but, still not acceptable.

Once gaining entry to the house, we could not lock the front door from the inside, without setting off the alarm inside. I tried contacting the owners to ask how to lock the door properly, and never got a response from them. We spent the entire week with an unlocked door at night.

Also, don't expect too much for the kids, when you read the house has an arcade. The house has one game, and it doesn't work properly. We weren't there much, but, we did get a couple of storms, it would have been nice for the game to work, to entertain the children.

Owner's Response: Each guest stay at LeConte View Lodge is very important to us. We work diligently to ensure that all systems and amenities are in tip-top shape for each guest arrival. We appreciate Mark’s compliments about LeConte View Lodge being a nice cabin. LeConte View Lodge is a gorgeous cabin and a well appointed vacation home. It is unfortunate that the guests only reported one of these issues to us during their stay. They left a message that they couldn’t figure out how to lock the front door from the inside. This is accomplished by manually turning the knob to lock the door. We quickly provided these instructions to the guest, along with the offer of assistance by our maintenance team in the event our instructions were unclear. Unfortunately the air conditioning issue and the arcade game malfunction were not reported until we read the guest’s review here. The air conditioners were all in good working order both when the home was cleaned and when it was inspected before this stay. Because we have a service contract with our AC company, we can quickly obtained AC service calls, we even have after hours service and emergency repair available. A quick fix for the arcade game is to simply rebooting the game. Just unplug from wall outlet, wait 2 mins, plug in, and wait for reboot to be completed. We also have a gaming equipment service person in the event the easy reboot procedure does not work. Both our pre-check in and post-check out inspections indicated no issues with either the AC or the arcade game. Had we had been notified by the guest of these 2 issues during the stay, our on-call maintenance person would have been the first person called to investigate these issues. Many times our maintenance person can resolve issues such as these. If further assistance was needed, we would contact the appropriate technician to fix the issue or issues. Again, each guest stay and experience at lovely LeConte View Lodge is very important to us. We hope these guests will come back to LeConte View Lodge. We will work extra hard to solicit their feedback during their stay. We hope potential guests reading the review will take the time to read all of our reviews. We sincerely hope our other reviews, 5 with 5-stars and 1 with 4-stars, will paint a more accurate picture of how much previous guests have enjoyed their time at the cabin.
