About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, Sleeps 6

Distant Shores is one of four homes known as the Mendocino Coast Dunes Retreat. It is an excellently maintained and updated two-bedroom, one-bath 1950s Mendocino vacation rental home that is perfect for two couples or a small family.

It boasts a spacious kitchen, a deck with room to enjoy the outdoors as well as privacy to soak in the spa or sit and enjoy the fire-pit (firewood not provided). Both of the queen size bedrooms have a sliding door directly to the deck & spa area. The complete bathroom also houses the washer/dryer and is near the back sliding doors.

The path leading to MacKerricher State Park and Beach is just around the corner. Once you make the trek (15-20 min.) through the dunes, you'll be greeted by the panoramic view of pristine beach and ocean views - great for quiet walks, picnics, and communing with the natural beauty of your surroundings! You can even bring your dogs, though a nightly fee applies. Contact Vacasa if you wish to reserve all 4 homes for your next family or business gathering.

About Vacasa of the Northern California Coast

Thanks for considering a Vacasa home! We provide full-service management for privately owned vacation homes, and like to think that we offer our guests the best of both worlds: the unique experience of staying in a one-of-a-kind vacation home, with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the home you book for your special vacation is cared for by professional housekeepers and property managers.

Vacasa began in 2009, simply because our founder and CEO Eric wanted to find a better way to share his wife’s family’s summer home in Long Beach, Washington with guests as a vacation rental. Eric and his early team worked to build Vacasa on the premise that local employees can do what they love most (taking care of guests, homeowners, and properties), while the hands-off tasks of vacation rental management—things like marketing, filing taxes, and maintaining a website—could be handled by a specialized central support team.

Our passion is connecting travelers with the unique experience of staying in a vacation home, and we would be honored to be your host. Please contact us with any questions about this home—our team is standing by!

Perfect home

  • 5 of 5

The home was enough space for our family. Plenty of space for the kids to play outside, the hot tub was awesome. We walked to the sand dunes and it was incredible. Will definitely stay here again!

Perfect stay for our family!

  • 5 of 5

We came up to Fort Bragg to get away from all of the smoke in the Sacramento region and were not disappointed! I have a 4 & 7 year old who were able to explore the outdoors ALL day long without me having to hush them for running and being loud (as opposed to a hotel). The hike to 10 mile Beach was definitely a HIKE! Once there, we were the only people on the beach and immediately found WHOLE sand dollars! It was so great having the comforts of home (washer/dryer, full kitchen, separate room for the kids). We will definitely be back.

Clean, quaint and perfectly situated a short walk to the ocean.

The only improvements I recommend are: a good set of cooking knives (at least 1-2 decent ones) and the fireplace did not work during our stay, which would have really set a great evening mood. The fireplace seemed to have some burned edges around the mantle which did not look safe. Everything else was nice and sweet and the grounds are very comfortable.

NorCal Paradise

  • 5 of 5

I was so happy to be there in a June, with all the blooming flowers, perfect sunny weather! Harvey, the owner, provided a most homey and comfortable house, and the hot tub was well used. I would love to go back and do more dune climbing.

Relaxing Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We were 2 couples staying 2 nights at Distant Shores. It was a very comfortable stay, with great beds, nice hot tub, and a good kitchen (though we didn't cook while there). If you use the fire pit, bring something to light it with. Also, before using the hot tub, take the cover off for a bit to off gas some of the chlorine. This little house is great for 2 couples and we would come here again if coming to the area.
