Overview

About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Very Cozy Cabin with a lot of charm. Wrap-around porch surrounds the cabin with plenty of rocking chairs to enjoy the beautiful view and the rushing creek below. This cozy cabin will be your home away from home. It has been recently remodeled with a bear motif and also has hardwood floors, and pine board walls. A spiral staircase takes you to the loft bedroom where you can use the large window above the bed as your headboard and feel as though you are sleeping in the great outdoors.

The cabin sits half way up the mountain at approximately 3100 ft elevation. Perfect for enjoying the cool summer nights and the beautiful fall foliage. It is secluded, however, there are neighbors close enough for comfort and you are only 4 miles from Sylva North Carolina where you have all the latest restaurants as well as Super Walmart for your groceries and necessities.

There is plenty to do such as Harrahs Casino (10 minutes away) and a scenic train ride in Bryson City (10 minutes away). We are also only minutes from white water rafting, dirt-bike riding, ATV trails, tubing, shopping and lots more. If you would rather just take it easy, there is plenty of reading materials as well as a game table with ample games to keep you busy and sharing quality time with your loved ones.

we also have an additional cabin on the property that is available to rent if you have a larger party

About Stepheney Rigney

We are the Rigney's (Jim and Stepheney) We live on the West Coast of Florida, we purchased the cabins to be able to escape the brutal summers of SW fl, however, with the economy the way it is we have had to put our plans on hold. That is why we decided to rent the cabins and to do it at affordable rates so that others can have a chance to get away and relax.

Stepheney Rigney purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Stepheney Rigney chose Smoky Mountains

We absolutely love the NC Mountains, when you are there time stands still, life slows down and you can breathe deep and relax.

Owner's Response: I am so glad you enjoyed you stay. We strive to keep our property as neat and comfortable as possible for our guests. I do apologize for the water not being hot enough for you. I was totally unaware of any problem with the hot water, I will have it looked into right away. Thank you for bringing that to my attention

Cute and comfortable cabin at a great price

  • 5 of 5

Stayed for the weekend and we thoroughly enjoyed this cozy cabin. The weather was nice and cool and we slept with the windows open. Arrived during a rain storm and the cabin was a little hard to find. GPS takes you to the wrong place so once you are on the road that the cabin is on just look for the address number. Shower, as others mentioned, is not super hot but turned all the way hot it is a good temp and the hot water lasts for a full shower. We absolutely loved the porch rocking chairs and spent a lot of time enjoying the outdoor spaces. Description says 10 mins from casino but it is more like 20-25 mins away.

Cozy little cabin with a few quirks

  • 4 of 5

People FLY down the dirt road to this cabin so BE CAREFUL, I almost got run over by a gas truck! It's not secluded, so be aware of that. My son and I enjoyed the stay for the reasons we were there. It's much better than a hotel! That being said, I have a few things to point out. As others have said, there is no cell phone signal. There is satellite tv with select channels.

Kitchen has everything you'll need to get by. I wish we could have used the burn pit out front. All around a cool little place to stay. The negatives: floor sill plate at the top of the stairs was not nailed down flat and could have cut our feet so we had to be careful every time we walked over it. One of the stair rails is coming loose so I imagine they all need to be checked. There was dust balls and hair all over. I figured it would be cleaner upon arrival. The top window above the tv could use some blinds for privacy. If someone is outside on the hillside they can see straight in to the loft where the bed is. The neighbor is really close and it was a little uncomfortable. There was coffee and sugar on hand which is nice, but I'm not using things that have already been opened and used. Maybe that's just me though. Anyway, it is a nice place and I might would stay there again when going to this area if the safety and cleanliness issues are fixed.

Owner's Response: I am glad you enjoyed your stay, thank you for letting me know about the stair issues, the handyman has fixed them. As for the cleaning issues I have addressed them with the cleaning company, they have assured me it will be taken care of. We strive to keep our cabin safe and comfortable at all times. However things do come up from time to time, and when they do they are addressed immediately.

great little spot

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was exactly as presented/pictured. There was a property right next door with several large dogs that barked when we got there, but then they didn't make much noise after that. We had our two beagles with us so the spiral staircase inside that goes to the loft/bedroom was tricky for them, but we knew it would be...we just carried them up there when it was time for bed. The porch was delightful and the gas fireplace kept things VERY warm and cozy! I would definitely recommend this spot and we would stay again!

It was good for fishing but not for romance

  • 3 of 5

We came up and spent the New Years weekend at the cabin. I thought it to be a quiet little get away. Perfect for anyone that is not me or my girlfriend however. The furnace was somewhat complicated as the pilot went out and we luckily were able to borrow a screw driver from our neighbors to unscrew the grate to light the pilot. We got it lit but the furnace was too hot for the little cabin and made the upstairs unbearable, no pun intended. She wouldn't go up and opted for pullout bed on the couch which hurt my back. I tried the fan but she hated it and refused to stay up there, the intense heat caused me to dry out and I became sick. The owner should consider writing instructions for the furnace, I assume the fan was there to help with the heat but that didn't fly over to well of heat and fan combo. The kitchen was a well kept area, small but much to work with in terms of cooking tools. I thought it was very nice. The bathroom was adequate for our height and size , wish the water could be as warm as faucets got, toilet works effectively. There's a dinner table that seats two and satellite tv with little to watch except Comedy Central and a ton of televangelico programs. A rocking chair was a nice touch though weak. The spiral staircase needs screw tightening on the rail. The deck is good for grilling. I feel it may make a better summer cabin than winter but overall, cute and welcoming. If you are a fisherman into bears and tv this is for you, maybe not for a romantic getaway. I did like looking out at the stars at night in the bed. It's about 45-50 away from Asheville which is a fun place with great food, beer and is progressive to the max. Worth going to for bit. The cabin is near some awesome hiking trails and I recommend taking them. I would go back to the area, had a good time, and enjoyed the beautiful smoky mountains.

Great quiet getaway

  • 5 of 5

Very cozy. The loft bedroom is a unique experience. The kitchen included all the necessities for cooking and even some helpful items that weren't expected. Really enjoyed rocking on the rocking chair with coffee in the morning while listening to the creek. The t.v. is a nice size and had a great picture with a DVR . Nice furniture on the wrap around porch.
