About Pete Passolt

We built this home in 2008 for our own year-round use. If you want to relax and enjoy what the area has to offer- this is your best bet.

Pete Passolt purchased this house in 2004

Why Pete Passolt chose Grand Marais

If you want a remote location, but still want all the modern amenities, look no further.

Running hot & cold water, shower, flushing toilet, etc.

Power is supplied by a solar/generator system. Works just like your own home.

What makes this house unique

There are very few lakes which directly abut a federally protected wilderness- this is one of them. McFarland Lake borders the 1 million acre Boundary Waters Wilderness. From the dock you can literally paddle right into the wilderness via two access points: John Lake, and Pine Lake. There is also the famed Border Route Hiking Trail, which lies out the back door. Take a hike along the high bluffs that comprise this part of Minnesota. You can see for miles into the wilderness and beyond...

Postcard-esque lake with a beautiful cabin and the comforts of home to match. Your ideal wilderness getaway keeping all of the modern luxuries. The pictures don’t do this place justice

Beautiful cabin on the lake!!!

  • 5 of 5

Pete and Amy have a wonderful slice of heaven on Mcfarland Lake. Sunsets/night sky are second to none. Would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone looking to get away for some peace and quiet in a gorgeous setting. Hope to come back some day for another visit

Excellent Northwoods Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is very well situated with a view of the water through a few trees, but still private from other cabins along the lake, due to the large lot. Everything is well appointed indoors and out; we had a great time using the pontoon for fishing and a little bit of cruising, and the canoe for a day trip into the Boundary Waters. The living room seating is comfy for relaxing indoors but still enjoying nature through the wide-open screened windows. We never had mosquito issues during our week here. We'd definitely stay again!

Our stay was everything we hoped for and more. The cabin was deluxe, the sauna was wonderful, the pontoon was fun and the fishing was the best we have ever had on McFarland!

Perfect Boundary Water's vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Pete was such a gracious host and the home was all that you could ever hope for. Our family was blown away by the location and the ease of settling into lake-life at the cabin because of what was offered there. Having the pontoon and the canoe and kayak just took it to the next level of fabulous. We are already talking about wanting to go back!

Relaxing, secluded get away

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time relaxing in this clean and cozy cabin. The stars at night are incredible, and there was easy access to many hiking trails. The pontoon rental was fun, and we enjoyed using the canoes and kayak.
