Just a lovely homely cottage, tastefully understated decor
Osmotherley is such a lovely village,we'd stayed before but this cottage trumped the last one,i forgot to mention to husband that there was no telly but we didn't miss it at all,we just relaxed with papers, books and crosswords...when we weren't walking or enjoying local hostelries!!!will definitely be back😊
Does what it says on the tin
My daughter and her family stayed here for two nights and her comments were....
Yes there is no TV or WiFi but didn't feel it was not needed. There is not proper sofa but more like a futon sofa bed, an armchair and a couple of comfy dinning chairs. They slept in the back bedroom and the bed was soft but comfy. All in all it did what was needed for our stay and would return.
Everything that we were looking for
This is a lovely cottage, compact but it has everything we were looking for and more! Kitchen was excellently equipped The cottage has a shower room and an ensuite bathroom. The lounge is small but just fine for the two of us and our dogs, it even had a dining table. We were a little worried as a previous reviewer said the beds werent comfy but that wasnt our experience at all, both doubles were very comfy. We stayed over Christmas and they had gone to the trouble of putting up decorations for us!! We didnt need the log burner as the heating kept us very cosy. The cottage is right in the middle of this lovely village and we had a wonderful stay. We will do our very best to stay again sometime soon.
We had great difficulty getting into the home. The pre-arrival information did not state that we needed to enter the home via a different street than listed. I tried calling the owner 4 times and there was no response. It took us over an hour to figure it out (at night, in the rain). I suggest the property owner be far more clear and provide pre-arrival information other than the key code. You also need to note that there is no service in the area and wifi is not provided (the listing says it's available, it is not). There is wifi at the local pubs that you can use.
As for the property itself, it was clean and provided all we needed for our short stay. Kitchen is properly equipped (although small appliances are very dated). The home instructions were not complete and we found it difficult to figure out the laundry and showers, but with a little trial and error, we were able to get it. The home guide should be updated as it was clearly written some time ago. The beds were extremely uncomfortable (you could literally feel the springs in the mattress), as was the seating in the downstairs room (hard as a rock). The over all furniture and decor is a bit of a hodge podge of items (and gave the over all feeling that they were former items of the owner that they've replaced or picked up from a free/giveaway site of sorts - either way it's clear the owner has only spent minimal money to furnish the home itself). Stairs in the home were extremely narrow and steep, as I assume they all are in the area. This in particular makes the home unfriendly for smaller children and those with mobility concerns.
The home is in a cute little town with 2 pubs and market. But note that they close early! So if you arrive late, you're on your own until morning. It is close to main roadways and provides easy access to the national park.
1 star for location. 1 star for cleanliness. -1 star for access/pre arrival instructions. -1 star for comfort. -1 star for misleading listing.
Peace and totally away from it all.
Nice little cottage in the middle of the village, three pubs a cafe and a little shop, so all you need on your doorstep., and its only 7 miles from
Northallerton . It's peaceful because there's no mobile phone coverage of any type in the village or broadband in the property also there's no TV in it either. To get to the parking round the back you need to go down hill to the end of the houses and turn left follow the narrow road and you'll see the parking on your left, also the door code you get is actually for the key holder on the wall not the door.
Everything you could need is in the property and it's a lovely little place. We enjoyed ourselves.
Lovely cottage, had everything we needed. Must have not read all details of property, as want aware of no tv and WiFi. This wouldn’t have been a problem had it not rained all day Saturday! So it was a bit of a washed out day as we have a dog who hates going out in rain! Lovely village with 3 pubs with dog friendly areas, also a lovely tea rooms which is also dog friendly.
