Great location and well appointed

  • 5 of 5

Whilst the street and facade are very down market. The actual location just off the main walking drag in the centre of the old town is perfect and when you get inside the property is spacious and clean and very well appointed.

Just a few minutes to most of the key sites and short walks of 10-15 minutes to the key travel points for the more distant sites like pompeii and herculaneum.

Napoli la città d'arte dove museo sono tenuti benissimo. Lina la proprietaria della casa è stata molto gentile, siamo arrivati con 2 ore di ritardo dovuto al traffico e ci ha aspettato accogliendoci con un generoso sorriso. Disponibile e solare.

The apartment is located in the lower decumano, commonly called Spaccanapoli, is a road artery of the old center of Naples and is one of the most important streets of the city.

It is located in an ancient building of the end of the 16th century on one of the three main roads of the urban plan designed in the Greek era and which crossed the ancient Neapolis in all their length.

The district became important between the Middle Ages and the Nineteenth Century both for the convents of religious orders and for the homes of powerful men who lived there.

On Spaccanapoli there are numerous important religious buildings, centers of Neapolitan Christianity. Among the main ones are the Church of Gesù Nuovo, that of Santa Chiara and that of San Domenico Maggiore.

The first that you meet starting from Piazza del Gesù is the church of the Gesù Nuovo, or of the Trinità Maggiore. Completed in the eighteenth century, as well as the imposing Renaissance façade and the remarkable baroque interior, today it is also known because it houses the body of Giuseppe Moscati, a doctor of faith and prayer, who became Saint in 1987.

Opposite the Church of the Gesù Nuovo there is the Basilica of Santa Chiara, with the annexed monastic complex. Wanted by Robert of Anjou in the fourteenth century, the church immediately presents itself with a sober and imposing facade, with a large central rose window. The interiors, seriously damaged by the bombing of Naples during the Second World War, also host the tomb of the Bourbon dynasty.

Further on there is the complex of San Domenico Maggiore, one of the oldest, large and historically and culturally important of the city. Its extension reached as far as via San Sebastiano, behind the conservatory of San Pietro a Majella, and it was a place where philosophers such as San Tommaso d'Aquino, Giordano Bruno and Tommaso Campanella studied and / or taught.

And again: Napoli Sotterranea, Cappella S. Severus with the Veiled Christ, St. Gregorio Armeno, National Museum, Fontanelle cemetery, Pio Monte della misericordia, the Reggia di Capodimonte and a thousand other artistic and archaeological sites. Do not forget the pizzerias and restaurants and pastry shops.
