About Nathan Smith
We occupy the main residence and live here in the winter. We are farmers from North Dakota that are trying to be ski bums in the winter.
Nathan Smith purchased this Cabin in 2014
Why Nathan Smith chose Porcupine Park
This is one of the most unique properties in the Big Sky area. There is access to close to 800 acres of private land for hiking, biking, Nordic skiing and overall enjoyment. The views are amazing and the abundance of wildlife is astounding.

Quaint cabin in the woods
Our family had a wonderful stay and the owner was very responsive and accommodating with whatever our needs were. The cabin is a great quaint property in the middle of beautiful big sky country with all the modern amenities! We saw so many mule deer (including bucks) right around the property and a wolf (a little close for comfort)! We also saw elk on our drives around the cabin. We would definitely stay again, five stars!
Everything was as advertised; secluded, comfortable, well-stocked with supplies and kitchen items.
Beautiful view from living room. Clean, quiet and nice getaway for my family. Make sure you read Nathan’s notes on directions to the cabin. We would recommend arriving before the sun sets. Saw moose, rams, eagle and deer!
Amazing views, nice & quiet
The cabin is about 15 minutes from the meadows & about 20 minutes from Big Sky Resort. It was nice to be away from the crowds & busyness of the resort. We saw lots of deer, elk & even a bear on our drive back to the cabin in the evening. We would definitely rent at this property again.
Scenic mountain retreat
Beautiful views from the front porch every morning and evening. We had our coffee while watching the deer graze almost every morning. The cabin was neat, clean, and stocked with the all of the items we needed. It is located a convenient distance from town (with a scenic drive down the mountain) and not too far from Yellowstone for our daily visits to the park. Beautiful scenery everywhere you went and you never knew when you would spot wildlife (a large Mule Deer buck on the road to the cabin one evening and 5 Bighorn Sheep on the roadside just outside of town one morning. Although Yellowstone is probably the biggest attraction in the area there many other activities such as fishing, trail riding, and hiking. Also try a visit to the ghost town at Virginia City (very interesting). So many things to do with so little time to do them, but a great place to stay while you try.
Wonderful, secluded cabin
We visited Big Sky with my sister-in-law and her family (husband and two children ages 2 and 7).
Views! The sunsets here were beautiful.
Wildlife viewing. We saw elk and deer in the mornings.
Hot tub was great after a long day of hiking in Yellowstone.
My husband was in close proximity to the fishing guide.
Secluded. There is another house nearby, but we never noticed them.
Super comfortable. Clean. Beautifully decorated.
Loved having a washer/dryer available. We did a load of laundry before moving on to our accommodations in Glacier National Park.
There was a smell in the first floor bedroom, but it was already being worked on. We just aired out the bedroom, kept the ceiling fan on, and were fine.
A frozen pizza does not fit in the oven - consider a different meal.
There was both a Keurig and a normal coffee pot.
This is located in, what I would call, a gated community.
Buying groceries in Big Sky was expensive. I'm glad we bought most of our items in Bozeman.
Do the Ousel Falls hike - it's worth it.
Being from the north east, it took time to understand that "close" or "just around the corner" could mean an hour drive. Big Sky Town Center was about a 20 minute drive - I could have passed through three small towns in that amount of time where I'm from. Montana certainly makes you reconsider what you regard as "far".
Overall, we look forward to staying here again and I would highly recommend this for anyone looking to stay in the Big Sky area.
Located in the heart of Big Sky country, gorgeous views, great skiing, hiking, and all the amenities the Big Sky area has to offer!
