Quality Stone Cottages in beautiful setting with pool
A wonderful, secluded newly renovated site comprising of four units. Two of the units can be interconnecting if required. All four properties have been finished to a high standard and are very comfortably furnished, and each has its own facilities and personal eating area, BBQ etc but there is room for all to eat together too. There are beamed ceilings and traditional flooring throughout and three of the bathrooms have tubs - ideal for the romantic, or those with small children. Also for romantics, one of the double rooms in each of the apartments has a personal terrace with beautiful views - perfect for breakfast, reading, or pre dinner drinks away from the rest of the group. The pool of 12M x 6M, plus roman steps, overlooking the hills is perfect for large groups.
This beautiful site has extensive grounds and one can walk down to the river in 5 minutes and along to a local lake where the bar serves lunch in say 40 mins. Closer to home is a village which is just over 1km away where one can find a restaurant/pizzeria, gelateria and a couple of basic shops. Pure peace, yet within walking distance of facilities!

We had a week here, staying in the four bedroomed house Vecchia, its lovely and cool if you keep the shutters.closed, the pool is excellent, we had our granddaughter with us, lots of toys to play with, and a great cot/ highchair, lovely walk to river and up to Villetta for shop and Pizzeria,

Sublime...Exceeded all expectations in every way.
This property is amazing in every way. Beautiful house in a stunning location, plenty of shade in the heat from the trees, really cool at night due to the mountains, and the view is exquisite. The house is really well maintained and beautifully restored. The beds are comfy, shower and wifi are great.Excellent laundry facilites. The pool was quite simply extraordinary. Our teenagers ran to it at 11pm when we checked in and were speechless at how great it was. It's 5 star in every way. Crystal clean, beautiful adjacent decking, great loungers etc. The gardens are also beautiful. To be honest I want to write pages about how this place over delivered on our expectations in every area but then it won't be read. We were a family of 14, with 3 elderly grannies one aged 88yrs , 7 children from age 2 to 15yrs and 4 parents. Everyone will say it was the best holiday ever. The area itself has so much to offer that there is hardly a need to go to see the bigger cites of Lucca, Pisa etc. There is a lovely restaurant in the village itself where we preferred to eat a lot of the time. After that there seems to be somewhere great around every corner. The hosts were really helpful with local advice anytime we needed it. Also we used the train quite a bit, a really novel way to travel given the convenience of the station. It's really easy to plan and book train tickets at the station using the self service machines. In summary it was our lucky day when we chose this property having looked at probably 100.
Thank you for taking the time to submit a detailed review of your stay. We are so happy you enjoyed this fantastic property which has you say is very well cared for, spotlessly clean and in a beautiful setting!
Perfect for a large group like yours..
Even though it was hard to tear yourselves away from the place, it is good to hear you enjoyed exploring too.
Very best wishes sent from Alessia. Thanks, Lorraine at Tuscan-retreats.co.uk
great place, wonderful people!
We were a party of 7: my parents (above 70 and beginning to be frail), my sister, my husband and my son (9 years) and my daughter (3years). We had a warm welcome by our hostess Alessia and her mother, with a wonderful cake.
My son has celiac disease and they helped us find restaurants, and gave us useful tips where to fnd the appropriate foodstores. The property is very charming, in the middle of a national park and has an incredible view on the mountain, which is especially lovely from the poolarea. There are a few accomodations and although all of them were booked, it did not seem crowded.
You can get fresh bread and croissants every day to wake up to. The internet is confined to the loggia, which is charming by itself and offers enough space for everyone.
It was a perfect holiday due to the wonderful, old but wel maintained typical property, but also due to the incredible friendliness, welcoming and warm way of the host family, especially Alessia and her mother. Would love to come again!
Very nice stay
The description of the place was accurate, very nice views on the mountains. A bit difficult to reach, narrow track, but unique.
The property was nice and well-maintained. The owner was very friendly and helpful. I would surely recommend this property to anybody. The owner invited all the guests to a dinner with local food and drinks, surprising and tasty.
There is a very nice swimming pool with a great view on the mountains and a "jacuzzi"
In short, lovely place where we would return.
A wonderful week in Tuscany
Having trawled the internet for days trying to find the perfect Tuscan retreat for our stay in October, I finally came across this little gem. Not only did it have 3 separate bedrooms (noone relegated to a sofabed in the lounge), but it was also a bargain ... I was a little worried it was too good to be true!
Any concerns we had were quickly dismissed as we drove up the long access road to the property. The views were as stunning as the pictures suggested, and on entering the property, we were pleased to find it was clean and spacious. Even better, the owners had left a little welcome package of milk and a gorgeous local jam tart.
We stayed in L'Arco, which accommodated 6 adults and a baby very comfortably. The rooms were lovely and airy, although the only downside was that the front door of the appartment opened directly into the twin room. Fortunately, we were able to use the back door most of the time. The kitchen-dining room was really spacious - far bigger than most you find in self-catering accommodation - and as we had a small baby with us, it was lovely to be able to cook up big family meals in the evenings rather than relying on eating out.
We had good weather most of the week, but it did get very cold at night, which gave us the perfect excuse to light the log fire in the lounge. Very cosy indeed!
The end of the week was warm enough for us to brave the unheated swimming pool. The best of us only managed a few lengths before our muscles began to freeze, but it was very refreshing. I imagine it would be perfect in the height of summer. However, we were disappointed that the hydromassage pool was also unheated.
The property is 10 minutes' walk from the little town of Villetta, which includes a lovely pizza restaurant and bar, and two small shops. There is also a big supermarket about 15 minutes' drive away. The restaurant is only open for a couple of hours at lunchtime, and then reopens in the evening. It's worth trying the pizzas which are very tasty and good value.
I really recommend this property for families, couples or groups of friends. It is ideal for those looking for peaceful walks in the countryside as well as those wishing to explore more of Tuscany ... you can easily get a train from Villetta into Lucca if you don't fancy the drive, and it stops at lots of lovely little towns along the way (tickets can be bought from the shop in Villetta).
I will definitely consider going back next year!
Thank you for your review! Glad to hear you loved the place and that your children loved the river, the fresh air and the nature! Will be happy to hear from you again.
Best wishes Lorraine at tuscan-retreats
The location is 10 minutes north of the market town of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana with its famous Thursday morning market, numerous bars & restaurants. Closer to home, the village of Viiletta a 15 min walk away and has a restaurant, bar and shop. The train station is a 5/10 minute walk. Also by foot, it is possible to walk down to the river in only 5 minutes, and a shaded cross country walk of 30 mins will take guests to a local lake (which also has a couple of bars and a children's playground). There is also an ancient beautiful and well photographed peaceful village (with no facilities) reachable by a 1km walk cross country.
The Golf Course of Garfagnana is only a 5 min drive.
Lucca - is an hour or so, Pisa 90 mins, Florence 1 hr 40 mins: Barga 25 mins....The National Parks of the Garfagnana, and the local ancient fortress (great for picnics!) are only a short drive away and there are numerous hilltop villages to visit very locally....
A rural but 'handy' retreat.
