Why Gilles chose Fishing Creek
Our family loves unwinding at Hoopers Hill, whether it is fishing off the shoreline, picking pecans or persimmons, collecting sea glass or arrowheads on our beach, lounging in the sun, playing games outside or inside (booo, only if raining). We love to just take in all of the gorgeous views! We reconnect as a family in this idyllic place.

Great weekend getaway
My family and I enjoyed our stay. The house is spacious with lots of extra space for our group of 5. Great location with both sunrise and sunset views. As noted by other guests, the house was difficult to find when dark. There is only a small sign by the side of the main road and no discernible driveway, just grass with some pebbles. The house was a little stuffy when we first arrived since the AC was off. After a few hours of AC, the interior condition was perfect. Our daughters loved the trampoline and fort. Never got to use the bikes but the kayaks were a hit. Great communication with the owner.
decide what's important
Six of us stayed the weekend in July and two things really stuck out 1. AC and 2. lack of cleanliness. The house is only equipped with window units and it was impossible for them to cool the house. The house gets full all day sun and it was impossibly hot day night with the AC on full blast. Sleeping was difficult. The master bedroom had a night time temp of 79. If AC matters to you, this is not the house.
The house is old and the furnishings are tired, there is chipping paint and dust through out. The interior needs fresh paint and a deep clean. The exterior furniture is tired too.
Having said that the property is beautiful and the views stunning. The "beach" is not really a beach swimming is not really an option. The kayaks saved our day as that allowed us access to the water.
The pictures of the house are out of date, so be careful what you are looking for. The only new things in the house are the frig, the dishwasher and a stove with an oven that is difficult to use. The owner is responsive but I wonder when was the last time he saw the place!
Hi Gale - We are surprised to receive your review. Hoopers Hill is a timeless, historic house, and not a sanitized hotel property. When you arrived we were able to accommodate all your requests. If you communicated additional concerns during your stay, we would have addressed them. For example, when the weather is close to 100 degrees, we close the drapes and keep the a/c on to keep the house nice and cool. Further, we also just had an unexpected major weather event, which caused an abnormal shoreline. We enjoy swimming and kayaking at the beach on the property with our children wearing water shoes as is typical of a natural, Chesapeake Bay beach. We are regularly at Hoopers Hill and our family cherishes these experiences. We also just had the interior and exterior of the house painted. So sorry you did not have a good experience. Yours is atypical based upon our own and prior reviews.
Eagleman Half Ironman Visit
Stayed at the house for the Eagleman 70.3 with another couple and their kids. It is about a 35-40 min drive into Cambridge. Was the perfect spot to relax before our Triathlon. It also allowed us a great non crowded place to practice our swim, bike and run a few days before the Half Ironman. The property is gorgeous. Sit on the front porch and you can see the sunrise over the water. In the back yard by the fire pit you can watch the sun go down. Over the water to the west. The beach access and kayaks are right there for you to enjoy. The bedrooms fit us all with room to spare. The kitchen is well stocked with whatever utensils and appliances you could need to cook with. This house and area will be a definite return location to come, relax and get away. The next door neighbors who watch over the house were at home when we arrived and came out to greet us and were great answering any questions we had.
We had an awesome time staying here for Memorial Day Weekend! The property is truly stunning, with breathtaking views of the water on both sides of the house. We enjoyed kayaking, using the fire pit, jumping on the trampoline and cooking with the very nice Italian oven in the kitchen. Our group of 10 had plenty of space to stretch out and the beds were very comfortable; the house is even bigger than it seems in the photos. The owners and next door neighbor were super friendly and communicative. We couldn't have asked for a better weekend. Thanks!
Charming waterfront home
We came to stay for the 2018 Ironman in Cambridge as a group; the house was large enough to accommodate us with room to spread out! It was close enough to get to the event relatively quickly but far enough away to relax and unwind. The sunsets were amazing and Gilles could not have been a more responsive host.
Meals were prepared in the kitchen and we had everything we needed to cook (awesome appliances!) and the large dining table had plenty of room for feeding hungry Ironmen!
Definitely a 5 star rating - wish we were here longer and in warmer weather to really experience all this place had to offer.
Pretty setting, but dirty, smelly, & impossible to find at night! Not worth the amount we spent!
Started off horribly. We arrived in the dark and it took an hour to find the house! It sits WAY back off the road and looked like an empty lot in the dark. They should have at least left a porch light on! There is zero cell service out there, so I couldn't call the owner for help.Stopped to ask a guy walking, he had no idea. There's a TINY white sign that says "Hooper's Hill", but at night it is invisible! It needs to have a solar light put on it. It's so far off the road that even my headlights didn't shine on it. Once we found property, the 'driveway' was more like a trail through front yard.
IT NEEDS A DEEP CLEAN! IF OWNERS ARE PAYING FOR CLEANING, THEY ARE BEING RIPPED OFF!
The place was 'picked up', but looked like it hadn't really been cleaned between many guests and our arrival, it was DIRTY! There was grease and food stuck on the pots, pans, glasses,& utensils. We had to scrub everything before we could use it! Also had to wipe down entire kitchen with Clorox wipes. Who needs to clean a rental upon arrival? When you try to use the water from the refrigerator, it causes a substantial leak out the bottom. All the pots and pans need to be replaced as they have been used up and are just plain gross (No grilling utensils).
The sun room, with red carpet, reeked of dog/cat pee. We were allowed to bring our 2 dogs with the knowledge they wanted to keep it as hypoallergenic as possible and needed to be vigilant about keeping them off furniture and picking up after them. It was obvious that someone else had pets in the home and didn't take care of any accidents they might of had. When my mom crawled into bed, she said her sheets smelled like dog too!
All other sheets had a BAD, mildew odor to them, I don't know if they were left in the washing machine too long, but it made it unpleasant to sleep.
Almost half of the light bulbs in the house were out too! There was not even a full roll of toilet paper in the bathrooms.
There was a big problem with some kind of HUGE wasps. They came into the house at night, we think from somewhere in the library. They were the size of a pinky finger. Killed 6 in library, 2 in living room, chased 1 out of the kids room before killing it, found some dead under furniture and in corners.
'Beach' was totally washed out, not owner's fault but a heads up about it would have been nice bc kids were bummed. We were disappointed with condition of this home, spent too much for it! Enjoyed kayaks & bikes, but we will not return.
Hi Ashley – Thank you for your review. We would have been able to address your concerns if you communicated with us upon your arrival or during your stay. We made a huge exception to allow you to bring your dogs and were concerned they would damage the house. We have not had dogs in the house this year so I’m not sure how the carpet smelled of dog pee. Writing a negative review after your security deposit has been refunded is odd. We have communicated with our cleaners to address your concerns. The fridge is almost new and we’ll fix the leak from the water dispenser right away, as well as make the property sign easier to read at night. Thank you for bringing these to our attention. We are sorry you did not have a five star experience and that we could not have addressed your concerns in real time. There are hotels in and around Cambridge that may better suit your needs when you visit the Cambridge area in the future. Hoopers Hill is a historical property in a traditional waterman community. It's charm, expansive interior spaces, acreage, double waterfront views and privacy are unmatched on the island and the rental rates are under market.
