Great getaway for the Easter weekend
Great house with plenty of room for everyone! Beautifully decorated, kitchen well equipped!
We had a Ladies Retreat from our church, Calvary Chapel of Spotsylvania, for a few days. It was a lovely setting and a very restful area. It was raining so we didn't venture far but the house was filled with various areas to sit and explore. Beautifully decorated and every detail provided a new treasure to explore. We had a slight problem with the water pressure which was attended to as soon as I texted in the issue. The only other issue was the house cleaner was a bit too rambunctious with the oil for the beautiful wood floors in the kitchen. Took care of that myself with some paper towels. The Kitchen was well equipped, plenty of pots and pans and cups, dishes, serving platters, bowls, glasses, etc. Beds were very comfortable, bedrooms were fantastic! Because it is a old house not all the windows would work properly and I'm sure that will be corrected with time. However, we did manage to open enough for beautiful cross breezes throughout the home. The grounds were spacious and worth exploring. There is central heat and air, but we needed neither. All in all it was exactly what the 9 ladies with me needed for a restful, peaceful two days. We will do it again!
Our amazing Weekend at Riverview Plantation
Riverview Plantation could not have been more perfect. Sitting among centuries-old trees, this home is a step back in time. The accommodations were excellent! I was amazed at how well appreciated the home was. The kitchen was filled with an abundance of utensils and wares. The walls were covered with images from the civil war with stacks of books on the era in the living room. There was a closet filled with children's indoor games as well as one for outdoor fun activities.
Outside were chairs and tables inviting company to visit under the shade of those giant trees. Maybe one of my favorite spots to linger was the outdoor patio area complete with over-stuffed sofas and a lighted umbrella. The patio overlooked an authentic period kitchen with two sitting area for sipping early-morning coffee or enjoying dinner as you watch the sun set over the mountains.
Everywhere you looked, you found excellent accommodations - bedrooms, bathrooms, little sitting areas amidst a beautiful location. We can't wait to come back!!
Thank you for your kind and thoughtful review. Riverview is a very special home. It is a largely untouched historical home that dates back to the mid 1700's and early 1800's (except for the modern bathrooms and kitchen) that we have lovingly restored and we have also just recently completed the restoration of the summer kitchen. The many majestic oaks that surround the home are truly spectacular! We thank your group for estimating the ages of the larger oaks, with the largest one, I believe recorded at 360 years old! We strive to offer an authentic historic experience with the furnishings and we are so pleased that you appreciated the home. We look forward to hosting your family again in the future!
Wonderful Weekend Retreat!!!
Riverview Plantation on The James was an excellent place for my husband and I to reconnect with old friends for the weekend. We were 4 1/2 couples and there was plenty of room for all of us!! The kitchen is very large and well equipped and we had no problem creating gourmet meals and then enjoying them in the lovely dining room! The outdoor kitchen is an excellent addition and each night we all sat out enjoying the peaceful view! We were close to James River State Park and the men enjoyed floating the river while the women drove to historic Poplar Grove. Great stay and thank you Vanessa for answering our many questions prior to our visit!
We are so pleased you enjoyed the newly restored summer kitchen that offers an additional shaded area to gather while looking out over the mountains. We have added patio furniture seating and ceiling fans for comfort as well as period antiques. As you mentioned, the area offers several great day trips including the James River State Park, just a few miles away, that rents kayaks and coordinates tubing trips on the river! We hope to host you again soon!
Excellent home to stay in. The owner was very accommodating and ensured our visit was incredible.
We are happy your family enjoyed the peaceful setting Riverview has to offer!
Wonderful historic home. Very secluded. Great as a base to visit Appomattox Court House which is very close, and other historical sites within an hour drive.
Owner was very accommodating.
We loved hosting you Donna! I enjoyed talking with you!
