About the property

Riverview Plantation On The James River: 4500 sq ft 5 bedroom restored home

5 bedroom, 4500 sq ft antebellum home privately situated on the James River and bordering a bold creek. Historically restored and original outbuildings. 66 acres to explore and there is also a slave cemetery on the property as well as ruins of old cabins and an icehouse. It was originally a 1500 acre plantation owned by samuel j. Walker who fought in the 174th virginia militia along with his brother col. Benjamin p. Walker. His great nephew was major general walton walker, chief of staff for general patton in wwii. A lovely and peaceful home surrounded by majestic oaks, yet only minutes to local attractions in appomattox and only an hour from charlottesville. Enjoy having your morning coffee on one of the screened porches with gentle breezes and views. Explore the property with it's old farm roads and historic ruins.

lovely home

Wonderful historic home. Very secluded. Great as a base to visit Appomattox Court House which is very close, and other historical sites within an hour drive.

Owner was very accommodating.

Disappointed

  • 2 of 5

There's a paper mill near and visible to this property which hums loudly 24/7. But it is beautiful old house with enormous trees.

Owner's Response: We are sorry if the mill down and across the river made your stay less than optimal. Generally the hum is not noticeable. We are glad you enjoyed the home and the surrounding peaceful grounds .

Very much the "Old Plantation" look and feel. Loved it !

  • 5 of 5

This property was every bit of what was advertised. Loved the character and history of the house. We had our daughter's wedding there and it was beautiful in this setting.

The owner was very helpful in explaining everything and the history of the plantation. The family all loved it as well. We would like to go back again for another family vacation and spend some extra time visiting some of the historical sites in the area. Would recommend this any and all.

Tranquility at its finest!

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful home has been wonderfully restored and decorated with the history of Appomattox. It is the perfect place to unplug those electronics and have some good old fashioned fun. The grounds are beautiful and the James river is extremely convenient. We spotted deer grazing in the backyard and many bird and squirel sightings. The beds are extremely comfortable and the kitchen has everything one would need in their own home. Having 3 bathrooms is wonderful with a large group and the washer and dryer means less luggage. Their is a museum and shopping just a short drive away. Liberty University in Lynchburg is a 30 minute drive away. Lynchburg offers tons of shopping and had several restaurants. The James River National Park is about 20 minutes away and they offer kayaking, picnic areas, a playground, and horse trails. Visiting this home is becoming a family tradition and we already can't wait to return.
