Amazing Panoramic Ocean Views and Peaceful

Bedrooms 2
Property type house

About the property

2 Bedroom House on over an acre.

Be one of the 1st to stay at The Gardenia House which is situated on 20 acres of rolling hills. With over an acre of fenced in yard you will have plenty of space and privacy. Your panoramic ocean view is incredible for watching the ships go by or the whales as they breach out of the water.

The morning brings you wonderful sunrises while in the evening you can watch the moon come up over the ocean's horizon. The sky is full of twinkling stars like you've never seen before. This 2 bedroom home has beds to comfortably sleep 5 guests with 2 queen beds and a twin. It's so peaceful up here that you won't have a problem going to sleep. Out here in the country we catch the rain water then have it filtered a couple of times for a great tasting drink. We even get our electric from the sun with solar photovoltaic.

We’re far enough out in the country for that true ‘local’ feel but close enough to enjoy all that Hawaii has to offer. Within minutes of the Gardenia House are waterfalls, Botanical Gardens, hiking, swimming, zip lines and of course our beautiful coast line. After a long day of exploring you can come back and relax in the hammock while taking in the view. Even if you have to cook your dinner on the grill, you’ll still have a fabulous ocean view to enjoy.

We hope to see you soon, aloha.

Great Place to stay

  • 5 of 5

This was an awesome experience. The house, environment and location was gorgeous. Very quiet area and is great to relax. Due to the fact that the house is not in town there were no city lights to prevent you from the brightest stars and moon light. It is on a hill so cool winds were blowing all day and night.

I am native to the big island and rented this property for out of town guests as well as myself. We were all very taken back by all this property had to offer especially for the price. The view is breathtaking and the location doesn't make you feel The homeowners are very helpful and quick to respond to any questions that you may have before, during, and after renting the property.

I would definitely recommend this home to anyone and would definitely stay here again

I have had the pleasure of staying at this home twice now. Having returned again now in 2017, as beautiful as this place is, it's just unfair not to share it, so the secret's out!

The Gardenia House is the epitome of country island paradise!!! If you seek solitude, an expansive 180-degree-view of the ocean, a starry night; and you don't mind (or maybe even prefer) the harmonious lullaby of coqui frogs and don't mind having cows, horses, goats, and geckos for neighbors--I promise you this is where you want to stay! I wish I could share my photos from the property, as the ones posted do not do it any justice by a long shot. The home is no more than a 20mins drive north of Hilo (with no "traffic"--disregard what online maps say). It is situated up a long drive on a steep hill, which provides an amazing (AMAAAZZING!!!), breathtaking view of the ocean. Once you turn into the driveway, I guarantee you that you will be blown away by the view and will totally be relieved you chose to come here. (When I drive down the hill, I sometimes feel like I'm about to drive right into the ocean lol) The house runs on a catchment tank, but this is the wet side of the island, so no worries about running out of water. The house also runs on solar electricity, but even with all the cloudy days, running low or out of power has never been an issue. And the home is set at high elevation and has very high vaulted ceilings, allowing for cool airflow; but there are powerful fans in each bedroom, in case you just can't acclimate to the island heat. The place is furnished (in a nice, practical manner), comfortable, clean, and roomy. (Honestly, the house could be a shack and the ocean view and surroundings would still compensate for it! It's a bonus the home is perfect.)

Additionally, Sandy and Bob are sooo easy to work with. True 'aloha' spirit! They are always a text or phone call away. They are very welcoming and not at all intrusive.

Trust this virtual stranger--book your stay here; you won't regret it. Just be careful - your heart may break a little when it comes time to leave. :)

Disclaimer: I still plan to book the home at some point for a 'refresher', so let's not hog this piece of paradise too much, people. ;-p ALOHA!

Owner's Response: WOW! Mahalo nui loa for your amazing description of the property, you were able to capture the same feeling we get when we are there taking in the view, it never gets old. It's always a pleasure to have you as a guest and we get great pleasure when we know our guests are enjoying the island and house so much Also thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience so others will get a better visual of the property. We hope you get to come back again some day. Aloha and Mahao

A Peaceful Sanctuary

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect home for our family of four. It was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. We enjoyed the breeze that came in through the three sliding glass doors, and the stars at night were spectacular! It's quite private, and the view is lovely. We would have liked to stay longer. The property managers returned our deposit promptly, and they were available to answer any questions we had.

Little Slice of Rural Hawaiian Heaven

  • 5 of 5

My family of 6 stayed here for 2 unforgettable weeks. My 4 young kids loved exploring the acreage and bringing back mountain apples and apple bananas. We had plenty of sun and plenty of thunderous rain. The home was perfectly comfortable and simple. It met our needs perfectly to get away from it all and just be together in a stunning setting. We saw everything from Waipio and Pololu in the north to lava flowing into the ocean at Kalapana in the south. We even hit a couple local swimming holes and a secluded Nanue waterfall. Mahalo Bob and Sandy for being so wonderful and going above and beyond!

Owner's Response: That's so nice that the children enjoyed exploring the property. There's plenty of room for them to run and play plus enjoy the freshly picked fruit. It sounds like you all had a lot of fun and made some nice memories together as a family. Mahalo for choosing the Gardenia House for your vacation. Aloha
