Your hosts have traveled extensively in Europe, the Caribbean and in the USA. We have hosted several exchange students from Europe and South America. Much of our family still lives in The Netherlands and part of the younger generation seems to have found a home in the mountains of Colorado. We have a passion for our horses and have met many wonderful friends through the horse world. The Dutch history of Albany and surroundings drew us to appreciate the value of living in this special place.
Marietta Schork Velvis purchased this farmhouse in 1997
The Inn At Deer Meadow is located in a very special corner of Albany County. We are adjacent to 5 Rivers Environmental Education Center, a 450 acre NYS nature preserve. The Vlomankil bisects the property, offering a beautiful sound of running water and a natural place to cool off on a hot summer day. The energy surrounding us is very healing. And there is evidence of ceremonial fire-rings dating back 5000 years!
Inn At Deer Meadow offers privacy, luxury, quiet and comfort to guests. Yet, it is conveniently located near Albany and the Hill-towns of Albany County. There are museums, restaurants, theaters, parks, colleges and many other amenities to be found within a short drive. Albany Airport and the Renssalaer Train station are only 15 minutes away.
Marietta is perfect in her role as owner and hostess of this 5 star B&B. Completely handicap accessible and very comfortable. Over 1100 sqare foot apartment with separate bedroom and living area. Breakfasts are well above average and we did not eat lunch those days we stayed there. Breakfasts started with a yogurt that has the fresh fruit of the day mixed in (Blueberries, peaches and other fruit that is in season). An egg omlet one day, on another day we had fresh corn fritters (served as pancakes) with fresh corn just off the cob inside the pancakes. Needless to say, we were overeating and enjoying every minute of the experience. It now is our go to place in the Albany area when we make our annual trip for Tanglewood concerts.
You can't say enough about this magical property! The very comfortable king size bed is in the middle of a beautiful large bedroom. The bathroom should be in a picture in a magazine. The delicious breakfast served to us on the outside deck overlooking the meadow was so special. Marietta is a terrific host; she made us feel so at home and we had many conversations about the area. We are moving there to be near our children who live close to this beautiful B&B.
Loved this property. Absolutely luxurious accommodations including spa whirlpool bathtub. Breakfast was delicious. Host i s lovely. Enjoyed a romantic getaway for our anniversary. Looking forward to returning!
What can I say except that when we come to Albany to visit family, or for work, this is where we will stay. The property was clean and well maintained, the bed was large and comfy, the jacuzzi was amazing, big enough for two and plenty of hot water. The radiant floor heating was the perfect touch, as we stayed in January!
Marietta was a wonderful host. We ate delicious breakfasts and enjoyed watching the white tailed deer in the back yard. The location is perfect, you are just outside the city, yet you get the peacefulness and tranquility of the country. I have already recommended this place to my friends and people we know who might need a wonderful place to stay just outside of Albany, NY.
I look forward to our next visit!
Extremely well designed and maintained. Very comfortable, clean and private. Loved the jacuzzi tub and spa bathroom and the extended space to lounge by fire. Thank you very much Marietta. We plan to return soonest!
There were two of us, & our yellow lab. This is just one of the most beautiful places we have ever stayed. Extremely clean; just lovely, lovely all around! The bedroom is very large; the bed is beyond comfortable and there is a gorgeous bathroom. There is a community room where you can bring your food in & eat or read or just relax with a cup of tea or coffee.....You will be greeted by the adorable dog Zoey.....you can go outside and see the horses & if you are lucky you can see some deer. The owner of the property, Marietta, is a delight! She is an excellent cook (breakfast comes with your stay) but more importantly she is great to talk to and makes you feel so welcome and will provide with you with info about the area...If you have time; take a ride (about 45 minute drive) to Saratoga- cute little city with many shops; cafes; etc...We like to take our dog with us everywhere we go- and Saratoga felt very dog-friendly.....I highly recommend this B & B without hesitation...you will not be disappointed. We would love to try to go back in the spring so we can enjoy the outside of the property!
Inn At Deer Meadow is only 30 miles from the well-known resort and summer destination of Saratoga Springs! An easy drive to the horse races, Saratoga Performing Arts Center, PGA Golf Course. And lower rates than in Saratoga!
